Vivienne: I received a letter the other day, Dorian.

Dorian: Truly? It's nice to know you have friends.

Vivienne: It was from an acquaintance in Tevinter expressing his shock at the disturbing rumors about your... relationship with the Inquisitor.

Dorian: Rumors you were only too happy to verify, I assume.

Vivienne: I informed him the only disturbing thing in evidence was his penmanship.

Dorian: ...Oh. Thank you.

Vivienne: I am not so quick to judge, darling. See that you give me no reason to feel otherwise.

Don't get why she gets so much hate tbh <3

Vivienne does have her softer moments.

I personally can't stand people who put so much stock in "The Game." Everything word and gesture comes across as very fake and power grabby, and Vivienne falls into those tropes. Plus, many conversations she has with people come off as very flippant and rude. Half the time I can't stand her.

But she does have her moments.

Considering she wishes to get power so that as many people are safe as possible while at the same time doing as much for free mages as you can, it's not that bad.

Like, her divine epilogue slide is the least full of conflict, yet mentioned mages getting more freedoms than before.

It follows the same logic as a benevolent dictator theoretically being a good thing. Wanting power doesnt make you bad if you want to do good things with it.

That's one of my favorite Vivienne moments. She's a gay ally! Can we really expect that such a fabulous woman wouldn't be though? It's just nice to see her confirm it.

I've said it before and I'm sticking with it: people who can't find anything positve about Vivienne have either not paid attention and/or dismissed her immediately and refuse to revise their opinion with further evidence. She's complex and interesting. I don't agree with her some times and I hate the way she treats Cole, but she's my favorite character this time around.

Those mages who are left after she's waged war on them, anyway.

I understand why people don't like her but I don't understand why there is so much anti-Viv sentiments on this forum. I mean in DAO, Morrigan was twice the douche Vivienne. Let's all remember that Morrigan dissaproves of not using Cyrion in a blood ritual. Cyrion. The warden's father.

I mean I like Morrigan, but a lot of the BSN would walk through a mile of her shitt just to kiss the ass it came from. Why does Vivienne get all this flak but Morrigan gets off scot free? Is it because she's not an LI? I know that there was some Morrigan hate in the weeks and months after DAO's release but it has faded away and I hope the same happens with Viv.

Vivienne gets a lot of hate because she has opinions that are unpopular with a lot of the fanbase. She is pro-Chantry and supports the Circle system, which has a lot of the mage fanboys/fangirls conditioned to hate her from the start. Personally I'm glad she wasn't yet another rebel mage. Between Morrigan and Anders we already had enough of those. Another unforgivable sin for many is that she doesn't worship at the altar of all things Inquisitor. If she thinks your character is a dunce who is running the Inquisition improperly, she'll tell you so. I see that as a positive trait, but some fans get irritated when companion characters break from telling the protagonist how awesome or special he or she is.

Part of it is that Morrigan is an LI. The other reason for Morrigan catching less flak is that her opinions are more popular with the fanbase. She is an apostate that mocks the Chantry and the Circle system. That plays into some fans real world opinions on religion or authority.

There was a "slap Morrigan" mod, you know?  Morrigan got plenty of hate.

All epilogue slides contain war relating the mages: only Vivienne's is resolved.

I adore Vivienne.

Some people already know it on this forum. Just see how I address some BSNers.

She waged war only with Fiona's rebels, if you sided with the templars, there is no conflict between her and mages.

Leliana has no war.  Cassandra has only rumours of war.

Vivienne makes a devastation and calls it peace.

Well, yes, in that scenario the mages are dead.  Hard to fight a war against the dead.

That one dialogue banter made me like her. I thought she was fake mostly.

I prefer Vivienne as my divine because I want to keep Cassandra and Leliana as my unofficial left and right hands. They just don't know they are.  :P

It follows the same logic as a benevolent dictator theoretically being a good thing. Wanting power doesnt make you bad if you want to do good things with it.

I agree the only thing I don't like about it is the Templar leash she holds.

I like Vivienne. I may not agree with her politics but I like her swagger. She (and Sera) bring some much needed levity to the Inquisition. I really enjoy her party banter with Bull and Varric, and her bickering with Solas is entertaining. Plus, she has excellent taste in decor and fashion.

Hmmm... I have trouble viewing her as a "benevolent" dictator when she's so incredibly rude to everyone. I agree she wants what she thinks is best for the mages, but her quest for power began way before any mage rebellion started. I believe it has more to do with her own personal gain than trying to help mages or protect the people.

At least with Cole, she has a reason: She's absolutely terrified of demons!

Funny, because I can't stand Vivienne because she is power hungry, manipulative and has a holier than thou attitude. Me disliking the character has nothing to do with her being pro-chantry. She reminds me far to much of a career politicians in Washington and that is why I can't stand her.

No they arent, there are others rebels around Thedas, when she calls them back, there is no fight, only Fiona's rebels refuse, and they are defeated, when they surrendered they got the same privilegies as the others mages.

I am the same. She's too much of a politician to take a personal liking to. I can appreciate certain aspects of her character, but that doesn't stop her from driving me up the wall most of the time.

I want to know her exact issue with demons it seems like she had a traumatic experience that Cole was trying to delve into in their party banter before she stops him. Is it mentioned anywhere or does she talk about it in depth somewhere and I missed it.

You're inventing details.  All we know is that the one organised group of mages left in southern Thedas refused, and Vivienne waged war upon them until they surrendered.

I don't believe it's addressed in depth. But I wish it was. I would explain a lot. The way Cole talks, she may have actually been possessed once.
