Oh yes she is.

A trifecta of bitchy, boring, and completely useless. Not a good combination at all. Narrative dead weight.

I read the information BioWare released about her before the game came out. They gushed about all the supposed 'power' she has and all the different ways she has to take people down, and when does any of that come out? Not once. She makes mention of that sort of thing in squad dialogue, and that's it. A little showing instead of telling would be nice, hmm?

I've considered not recruiting her a number of times because of this. She really doesn't have anything to add to the story. Her personal quest is pointless, her party banter is just bitching at people... except for when you first recruit her - she has a lot to say about her views on the circle and that I find really interesting and worth having her for. But after that, she doesn't serve much of a purpose. There's no point in talking to her and no point in taking her anywhere with you unless you want her fire power. And it's like "why are you even here?"

Vivienne is in favour of the circles... because she's allowed to return to her own home(s) and mingle with the public as if she wasn't a mage. Which is what my pc wanted for all mages, but Vivienne is against that.

When you first encounter Vivienne, she uses magic on a person, and people are entirely fine with it. You have to remember that she is against every other circle mages doing stuff like this... double standards much?

From what I understand then she only joined the inquisition in order to have a shot at becomming divine. She thinks that it's okay for her to become divine... but that every other mage should be locked up for everyones safety??

But that Circle throne.

I dislike her.

However she and my mage seemed to get along quite well. So much so that perhaps they even called each other friend. Maybe because my mage believed in circles, the chantry but that mages should have a place in the chantry and that Templars should protect mages from themselves but not police them. That a nose bleed didn't make a mage a blood mage.

but yeah personally I agree with Sera about her. She's a ******.

I don't mind Viv. But her willingness to play "the game" is a bit of a turn off. And she is a bit too logical in wanting to restore things without fully understanding the root causes of the rebellion (at least Cass seems to understand and feels more sympathy). I certainly prefer Cass over her for Divine. The problem I'm having is that it might be tight because I am overall neutral and my sentiment is to restore order with reform. I get points from Cass but also Viv too (who think I want to restore things as it was when I really don't). I hope i don't get Viv as Divine.

Yes she is, sure she has a few moments where she isn't a total ****** but she's still a ******. She also has an inflated sense of self importance for someone who got many privileges and the position of First Enchanter by spreading their legs for a duke. Oh I'm sure the circles wouldn't be so bad if every mage attached themselves to a nice noble to help them bend the rules. Just so long her lot in life is ok she doesn't care about the other mages.

I like her if only for the simple fact that she doesn't kiss my PC's ass at every single opportunity, without being mean to them. We need more companions who stand up to the player a bit.

I love Viv and keep her in my party most of the time.  She's a ******, she's a powerful ******, and she knows it.  I disagree with her views on many things but I still like her character and keep her in my party.  In fact, I'd take her over Varric or Solas any day.  Not sure why but I just cannot connect with those two no matter what way I play my INQ.

I get weirded out whenever I see Vivienne hate threads because she reminds me so much of my mom.

Which probably explains a lot about me.

In four playthroughs, Viv has wound up my Inquisitor's friend four times.  And somehow she has crawled her way up to the Divine's throne twice.  Once I intentionally put her there the second time I rolled all my support to Cassandra and Viv still made it to Divine.  LOL.  I didn't play with her much this last playthrough because I was a KE and I didn't feel the need to have two of us in the party (and honestly if I am going to roll with two mages that second mage will always be Dorian). Vivienne doesn't bother me because I know what to expect from her.  She is a big ol b and owns that.  I still have a hard time picking out how Sera is going to react to things.  And Solas just makes me wrinkle my nose.  So if given the choice I'll befriend Vivienne every time, because I know what to expect from her.

After she called Varric an imbecile (one of the first party banter dialogues I ever got from her, so...off to a bad start!), the chances that she would ever win her way into my good graces were slim.

But that stupid furniture moving thing? I mean, I disagree with her strongly & rationally but that was enough to make me really hate her. Wish I'd had the chance to do something SUPER nasty. Because I would have.

Yeah that "Furniture Scene" was b.s. I was like, "Really? This your idea of trying to peeve my Inquisitor off, by doing some childish crap!?"

I love it too when I tell her during this, "This is my place" and she is like, "No, its the Inquisition's." I'm like....OK, your house in Orlais is really not your house its the baron's-you know the guy your with for his cash."

If I did not know Dorian and Vivienne's previous locations, I would have assumed Vivienne was the one from Tevinter and Dorian from the Circle in the south.

Too bad I cannot ship Vivienne to Tevinter - she would fit right in.

Vivienne can be best described as a "Black Widow" ( No not the comic one :P ).

Vivienne: I received a letter the other day, Dorian.

Dorian: Truly? It's nice to know you have friends.

Vivienne: It was from an acquaintance in Tevinter expressing his shock at the disturbing rumors about your... relationship with the Inquisitor.

Dorian: Rumors you were only too happy to verify, I assume.

Vivienne: I informed him the only disturbing thing in evidence was his penmanship.

Dorian: ...Oh. Thank you.

Vivienne: I am not so quick to judge, darling. See that you give me no reason to feel otherwise.

Don't get why she gets so much hate tbh <3

Honestly, I wouldn't consider "not being a homophobe" to be a virtue so much as it is a basic bit of human decency. You don't get rewarded for approaching the minimum standards of acceptable human behaviour; this isn't the NFL.

I mostly take that scene as her getting bored since I only recruit her for the throne.

She has to do something. And if moving furniture while I'm not around is her thing, then she's free to do so.

She even fans her boredom away.

Unfortunately, "not being a homophobe" is still worthy of commendation because too many people (see the recently closed 'gay toggle' thread) think it's not a problem to be a homophobe.

I actually thought the furniture scene was funny. Like, she can't let herself do anything more aggressive toward me even though she probably wants to.  I almost felt sorry for her.

Don't forget Viv trying to go behind your back and wanting to redo your dinning room chairs in velvet. Ooo I am scared Viv...someone hold me! :P

Vivienne's pretty cool, and she has some funny lines. Her banter with Dorian also has some of my favourite squadmate interactions. Here's a line that I heard while exploring some caves in the Hinterlands, just after recruiting her (not squadmate banter, sadly):

Vivienne: "You always find such lovely places to explore, my dear."

It was so unexpected I couldn't help but laugh at it. As far as companions go, she's one of my favourites. My last playthrough saw my Inquisitor on friendly terms with her. It's interesting to see a mage that doesn't hate the Circle. Before I get immolated by mage freedom fans, I'm pretty "pro-mage", it's just a different, refreshing perspective that I haven't seen before in other DA characters. She gets the occasional spot in my squad rotation, since bringing three mages is sometimes a bit overkill.

Vivienne is only pro-circle because she was allowed to leave it whenever she wanted.

Remove her perks and she would hate it just as much as every other mage... she would probably hate it even more because of her fear.

That cause she managed to get in bed with a noble.

She did tell the Inquisitor to abandon people at Haven during Corypheus's attack. While she did approve of you actually saving them all afterwards at Skyhold it doesn't change the fact that in the heat of the moment Vivienne was fine with letting those people die even they were literally right of front of you fighting for their lives or trying to escape from raging fires.

That's just one of those things that I can't get past.

Yeah especially since Iron Bull says the opposite and wants you to save them

I did a playthrough once where I did not recruit her. I survived. Whats funny is I did not choose to be knight enchanter then. I chose rift mage and the Knight Enchanter would occasionally be standing in the empty area where Vivienne is supposed to be. She NEVER leaves.

That's really funny because always assumed she and Vivienne would hang out and have conversations and then suddenly fall quiet when I entered. That's sad to think she just stands there and has no one to talk to.

Vivienne imo comes as a strong and ambitious character, what she wants she gets. Even if it means at the expense of others.

She reminds me of that Empress from the film Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, especially with this quote:

"When one aims to achieve Greatness, everyone is expendable."

I dislike how she does things, and she and my quizzy don't always see eye to eye, but she's definitely not a bad character.

Her personality is mostly shaped by her experience with playing The Game as well as her fear of being irrelevant.
