I have Viv at level 14 with all the key KE abilities + barrier and clean burn. Can she solo dragons (at least the ones in the Hinterlands and Crestwood) on hard? Is it even possible? Her gear is average at best.
Can a level 14 KE solo dragons on hard difficulty?

I've done it on Nightmare in my PJs. So yes. It's not even hard to do. It's just not a whole lot of fun.

Why not try and find out? The Hinterlands dragon summons minions though.

My Knight-Enchanter soloed the Western Approach dragon the other day (she was either L14 or 15 at the time), and right before that she two-manned the Crestwood beastie with her pal Solas... both at Nightmare difficulty, w/ FF on.

Since I readily admit to having absolutely no idea what I'm doing as a KE, I'd say that anyone who isn't as clueless as me would have no trouble at all soloing a dragon. ![]()

Yeah, FF on it's definitely better to go all ranged if you are a ranged Inquisitor, having a melee fighter in the way just hampers your potential when you can't fire because you'd hit a companion. One reason I tend to solo or all mage the dragons, usually solo but, sometimes I take another mage, or two.

Lvl 18 Qunari KE here + 3/5 Amulets of Power, solo'ed the Hissing Wastes' one (lvl 20), despite the little beast continuously calling dragonlings and such. Fade Step in order to both dodge fireballs and close in all in one single movement is invaluable (and amazing
).

I did... sort of. I took on the Crestwood dragon with my whole squad (DW assassin inqusitor, Cass (Templar/S&S tank), Iron Bull and Viv (KE) ) at around level 13/14. Got the dragon down to 1/3 but ran out of potions. I did no prep at all for the fight (no lightning resistant gear/potions, etc) and did not properly use tactical mode. I thought I would win easy anyway if I have the right builds with my squad but it didn't happen. I suspect if I took control of viv instead of leaving her to the AI, it would have made the diff. Then i started thinking if I could just send in viv by herself

Against Crestwood you certainly can, and probably the Western Approach too, even in Nightmare. But it sounds boring as hell to solo dragons with a KE, it's just a very long spamming of spirit blade. What's the point?
