You know it speaks alot about the state of fandom when Mr Gaider has to tweet about justifying character's sexualities.
I think some fans treat the romance aspects of the game as if it is the main feature.

Note that I don't really care about Cullen's sexuality one way or another. That said, I don't feel that the posted quote answers anything. We do know that one reason (the main reason?) we got a Cullen romance -- and a Solas romance -- in the first place is because they got the extra year of development time, which is really great. But since files were discovered that indicated the developer intention to, at one time, have him be bisexual, what caused that to change?
If it were say Blackwall, who is also straight, and who was (apparently, I assume) designed that way from the beginning, THEN his response at GaymerX would be applicable. They chose to make certain characters gay, straight, or bi, and that is fine. But that doesn't appear to be the case with Cullen specifically. So the question is why did it change?
I haven't been able to find the developer tweets referencing this issue, and I'll admit that I never looked very hard because I didn't want to wade through all of the gnashing of teeth regarding this just to find it. If someone has a link handy I'd like to see it.
Regardless of the reason, I think it was a HUGE mistake to leave the files in there in the first place.
I'm really curious if there are somewhere hidden files for the other characters as well or if Cullen is the only one. Not that this would change anything for me, I'm merely interested in the development process.

Yep! Just as i think its odd that many insist that because the characters dont state 'im a pan/bi/straight/gay etc' that means they could be justified into being anything anyone wants. Im fearing playing a game one day when every char introduces themselves as 'hi im so and so and im male and gay', talk about sizzling dialogue lol.

As i understand it theres a quite a few lines for solas, just 2 lines (or so) for blackwall. Er no clue about the women folk.
I have to admit, I would have been pretty irritated at having two straight romances for males and three gay ones.

Sorry, but this is the cost of having 6 male companions and 3 female.
Odd thing is, most people I've seen who wanted equal straight male romances as straight female have accused me of being a 'feminazi' for saying the 6:3 ratio isn't very good.

Yeah, the quote really doesn't answer the question of whether Cullen was changed because bisexuality didn't fit him, or whether resource limitations had something to do with it. It's probably some of both, and more.

Gosh, what a mature opener.
The argument of 'representation' really only goes so far. BioWare has the right to tell any kind of stories they want, but if we're at the point of gay options being more common than straight ones, there's very clearly something more going on than just making sure gay male players have enough romances open to them and characters to identify with.
Not this again.
And I am VERY glad they went this route with Cullen. Him being bi, just does not fit his character. Also I am VERY happy too they gave each character their own sexual preference.
If either of things were not what they are in the game right now, I would not be playing it.
I've said it before not everyone in the world is bisexual gay or straight. Everyone has a preference or type of person and body type they are attracted to. DAI at least tried to be more realistic. I wish games would just take it out entirely. We have plenty of other ways to see that stuff.
Just ... why you want to know it now? Does it will make you happy to know it, be a possibly way he was bi ?
And i think is way better that he's not gay, it's better because of the personnality.
PS : btw i'm sure some people going to mod that lol like other romance.
Most likely they just ran out of time/resources to add/polish up the extra content. This is 90% of the reason why stuff gets cut. The other 10% is to make money off a DLC (*cough* Shale **cough*).
I don't care about Cullen in any way, but I'm glad they decided to have less bi-sexual options.
As was mentioned in concern of DA2: All four base game romances were bisexual...Why? I prefer for characters be diverse in as many ways as possible, despite my indifference to the romance system (save for Scout Harding."Hey you"...Mmph.
). This would then include sexuality. Having a variety of people from different backgrounds with different backstories, personalities, likes, dislikes, sexuality...it makes for a better game overall, when half of the meat and bones of a Bioware game is how diverse and interesting the companions are...by the way they're all bi-sexual? ![]()
I want to see more companions that have more restrictions the way Solas was: maybe have Qunari who justs loves herself some little dwarf men? Maybe have a darkspawn companion you can flirt with regardless of gender, and he (assuming female darkspawn are all broodmothers) rejects you at every turn because he just doesn't care about sex and romance? A gay chevalier or a bisexual person with the option of a polyamory relationship between they and the player and then a third character you meet from the companion's quest line? What about a character that initiates the flirting, which you can decline or approve of at your own leisure? Why does the player have to try to start the romance? People have interests and they pursue them accordingly!
What's the point of just having everyone handwaved as 'bisexual'? Variety is life's spice, and all that! ![]()

Ironically immature language in return for immature argument.
Again, since there are half as many female companions, its really not that surprising.
You can't both have half as many female companions and expect the same number of female romances.
I'm really glad they decided to keep him straight. He was very obviously straight in origins, I don't buy into this 'well he may just not have liked your male mage', load of codswallop if you ask me. A character they implement as bisexual would be openly attracted to your character either gender, they wouldn't shut one out just because. Hasn't been done so far to my knowledge.
If they had turned him bi it would just be another to please a certain crowd and mess up his character. He had enough of that with his apologizing on his treatment of mages and his apparent incompetence at being commander that they had to have people complimenting him on it.

What about the large number of people who discver their sexual attractions as they mature?

In real life maybe....not the game.
Don't get me wrong, I would have no problem with him being bi or gay if that is what he was to begin with. But to suddenly change him, no.
Well this explains why Thedras is so sparesely populated. 70% of the population is in homosexual relationships, 10% are too busy wearing masks and acting stuffy, 10% are deperately trying to fend off bears or reclaim lost druffalos.
(to Quantius) The last 10% are in process of getting eaten by said bears.

You're talking like it's straight males fault somehow that there's so many male companions.
I don't remember seeing a poll where I could vote on the gender ratio of possible companions, at least.
He seemed very uncomfortable to me when my male inquisitors flirted with him
Yes, but he also seemed rather uncomfortable when my female Inquisitor started flirting with him ![]()

So you're saying in a video game with a ten year time jump people can't come to a different conclusion about their sexuality at the end than it was at the beginning?

It's not. I said nothing about straight males gamers anyway, just people who play straight male inquisitors.
And there are people who are straight men who wouldn't hate Cullen being a romance for guys.
Straight men aren't the problem, people who want there to be equal numbers of romances AND think there should be more male followers than female ones, rather than even numbers, are the problem.
