Customizing Squad Armor

I found that turning crappy equipment into omnigel before it got into my inventory worked better for ME1 inventory management, then I wouldn't have to clean it out so frequently. Although they could have improved the ME1 inventory system in many ways (don't get me wrong, it wasn't perfect), I feel that ME2's system is a large step backward rather than an improvement.
Why couldn't they implement the same armor customization system for all squad-mates that they put in for Shepard? I know it would have been a lot more work, but the base system is already there for Shepard.

I didn't have to clean my inventory every 5 mins, more like every 10 minor missions or after each major planet mission. I looked forward to cleaning my inventory, especially on the hardest setting because I desperately needed those credits to succeed in the early part of the game
I have to agree with her (I'm assuming because the pic is of a girl character). It made the game more complicated and I felt more in control of my crew. In ME1 you have to decide what items you won't need anymore. ME2 seems to just be dumbed down and I'm tired of all the major video game companies catering to these new casual gamers. Thats why I am an ex-Nintendo fanboy of 20 years. Instead of looking and studying every room of a new building for new armor or tech all I have to do now in ME2 is go to a shop and buy it. It takes the fun out of exploration and makes for a very watered down RPG. Sure ME2 is prettier but ME1 was much more entertaining.
And I could care less about changing the colors of my armor. This isn't Halo multiplayer.

Yes it cleaned things up a bit, but I miss the Ammo and sheild and biotics customization and being able to actually upgrade teammates armor.
Just remember this in the future: BIOWARE ACTUALLY LISTENS TO IT'S FANS. If you complain about something, more than you compliment it, then they will likely get rid of it in the next game.
This may sound off to some people. But I am willing to pay an extra $10 if BioWare makes a Casual gamers version and Hardcore (Real) gamers RPG version of Mass Effect 3, with an inventory system and upgrades like they had in Mass Effect 1.
Let the casual gamers have their aesthetically pleasing watered down game while people who actually care can have a complete game.

Won't happen. It'd be making two separate games and likely coming close to doubling their development costs.
Welcome to modern gaming, dominated by the Halo crowd. If you want "hardcore," start looking at indie games. You're certainly not going to find it from big-name developers, especially not ones under EA.

I don't think anyone would complain if you basically could 1) modify their main armor suit like Shep's 2) Give them some of the spare DLC ones you have.
It's my only real gripe about the loss of inventory from ME1. I don't mind their outfits, I just miss my entire squad looking beefy in armor.

This. The exact reason I started this thread was to find out what I came to realize while playing through the first 3 hours. ME 1 is leaps and bounds a more memorable game to me simply for the lack of hardcore rpg elements. I hate to say it but the dumbing down of the inventory and customization elements is a travesty and one of the biggest disappointments I've experienced in game. Still a Mass Effect fanatic but not quite as much as I used to be. It's no one's fault either, just a natural progression from a game with no following (ME circa 2007) to one that is advertised on ESPN every five seconds and to a different demographic.

They're improved by upgrades you find same as yours. You only find a handful of armor pieces for your N7 armor. The real power is in the upgrades not the pieces.
