You need to kill the target with the combo for it to count toward the weekend challenge.

Think about it, the game only keeps tracks of the stats useful for medals. The only medal for combos is "team combo" which only ever count when killing a target with a combo. If the target survives a combo, it doesn't count. Thus, the challenge works the same way. Kill by combo -> counts, kill by anything else -> doesn't count.

 

Bioware is a master at deception, the weekend challenges always were a bit iffy with their description.

It always surprises me how many people don't grasp the concept of team combo's.

 

Even if it isn't spelled out for you I would've thought it would've been picked up by playing the game at least. Unless their style of playing is YOLO spam skills off CD... All the time ignoring all the nightmare/discharge/etc going off...

Literally did this solo as a keeper with Disturbance of Spirit, a lightning staff, and energy barrage. Each energy barrage basically has a chance to cause instant Nightmares, sometimes even twice. It took about two runs to complete all 40.
