Could the same mp schematic potentially yield multiple appearances with changes in the specific materials used?

I've made everything with shitty mats... am i just screwed?

No, that is preset. You can get colours changed by building the sidegrades (Faith, preserverence and fortitude)

to follow Torm's words. The armours colours and stats are set reguardless of what you use on them when it comes to multiplayer. So go ahead and use up your crappy tier one mats on making the armours. it's the best use for them anyway.
