I've played the first stalker game which I thoroughly enjoyed, especially with mods: One where zombies are everywhere and can wipe out towns in different play through due to no constraints on the ai zombies.

Another mod was that all ai are free to roam anywhere, I found a bloodsucker stalker the very first town which was awesome watching everyone trying to survive.

So which one should I buy? Clear Skies or Call of Pripyat? I prefer a big world to explore, mods similar to the two I mentioned (mods make the game so much better) and the creepiest atmosphere  (cool and creepy anomalies (such as the trees all bent and pointing towards one) and mutants).

Clear skies has a swamp in and call of pripyat has blowouts which sound interesting.

I don't get it

it got cancelled when THQ died

edit: seriously though, Call of Pripyat doesnt reuse any old areas, it has the best item modification system and a less annoying protagonist

I've heard the first or second was the best, though I don't know for sure, having not yet played. Hopefully the next Steam sale will clear that up.

remember, the smuggler dude on the ship hub is your best friend, if you have the cash he can get you anything from a knife to a aircraft carrier

there are 3 separate zones, in them there are no barriers, other than anomalies obviously, you fast travel between zones

and the obvious tip is rule 1 of STALKER - anomalies are your friend....as long as they have artifacts inside, oh, and dont sell all your artifacts, sometimes bartenders will have special requests and pay a lot more than they usually would so keeping artifacts for later pays, literally

I'd just avoid Clear Sky... I enjoyed playing it, but even after several patches (each requiring a new game) it was still totally unstable.  Pity. :(

Is there any way to turn off the annoying head bobble in the first game? I can't find it in the options. I can barely even play it without feeling sick because the person you play as has no control of his neck muscles.

Im actually looking to get into stalker as well. I need something to tide me over until the witcher 3.

I haven't played any of them, but I know a bit about the games lore.

Should I start with the first game or not? And also, I really dont like modding my games, are mods necessary to enjoy the series?

There is, but it's been such a long time since I dealt with that particular problem that I can't remember the exact details. If you do a search for a no-head-bob mod you should hopefully find something that isn't too much of a headache to install...

Generally, Call of Pripyat is considered the better STALKER expansion. I enjoyed both, and Clear Sky had some neat time-space wibbly wobbly stuff going on off of memory.

Despite having AI that borders on ridiculous in terms of accuracy and reflex, I'd say Shadow of Chernobyl with the Autumn Aurora 2 Mod is the way to go for people curious about the series.

Metro 2033

Great game. I have never played stalker before so I cant really compare, but neither metro game is open world, and it seems stalker is MUCH more difficult then metro.
