Do you think they will overhaul the elves, darkspawn, qunari, chantry clothes, armor style, ambient lighting, major characters, and basically everything all over again for DA4?

Where is the visual identity of these games? Is it a good thing that, unlike the other big Bioware series, it's back to the drawing board for every DA game?

I don't think the next DA will get as much of an overhaul as it happened between the previous three titles, since it's also gonna use the Frostbite engine, so there are a lot of things the devs can reuse from Inquistion.

Still, its high time for the DAI art team to settle for some final designes, because the continous retconning of races, armor etc. is a real immersion- and continuity-breaker.

I expect elves to be overhauled again, too many complaints about the DAI elves not to do that again. Qunari will see smaller changes for DA4 and, I hope they will improve hairstyle options for DA4, if not before. I don't think they will change as much for DA4 but, there will be some changes.

I think that the new setting will make it less obvious.

What bugs me the most in DAI is that you can tell that many different artists worked on the game, which is usually the case but typically it is less obvious.

I understand (and agree with) the OP's point, but I kinda appreciate that "randomness". It's sort of like in comic books when different artists have distinct renditions of the same characters.

I didn't notice that, but I don't know anything about art. How do you see this?

Mainly I see two maybe three artists heavily involved, there are different styles in which tarot cards, character portraits, some of the character 3d depiction, epilogue drawings are done. Fashion design of NPC (not companions) have for the most part different aesthetics from the one companions and PC have. There is also the weird uncanny valley vs cartoony tension, which is probably happening because DAI tries to keep some elements from DA2 and even DAO. DA2 as an overhaul had a clear aesthetic direction, DAI not so much.

It would be good if they could settle on a style - especially if it is my own personal style preference LOL. Having said that I love how Naughty Dog has aged Nate and Sully. Look at Alistair over three games and you can see the difference.

The Quanri have been "retconned" every game. In Origins they were biggrayppl. In II they were giant gray goats, In Inquisition they were giant gray goats with more human looking faces and personalities. Well, we only have Iron Bull and possibly the Inquisitor to go off of.

The Elves and Qunari have changed looks in all three games. Alistair, Cullen in all three games look different, and Isabella, Zevran and Merrill changed drastically across two games. Morrigan, Lelianna, Varric look similar.

Honestly only DA2 changed anything (for the better imo) but I think people had huge misconception when it came to the Qun itself is the problem

Both Sten and Arishok represented the Soldiers of the Qun would are breed to be merciless killing machines and never question the Qun but that could NEVER have represented the whole of the Qunari

Then comes the introduction of the Ben-Hassrath like Tallis,Gatt, and Iron Bull and everyone get confused? Never understood why, were people expecting a giant nation of warriors and nothing else?

Hmm. Interesting. I keep seeing things from previous games in most corners.

Alternatively, you can headcanon that Fereldan Chantry had certain clothes, Free Marchers had something else, and yes, even the Orlesians had to go fancy!

Well, in my opinion he looks older than in DA:O. Exactly like he should.

Since DA 4 won't be in Ferelden/Orlais I would expect everything will be different.

Its funny you say that, I never really liked Alistair in DAO because of his childish demeanor, but I imported him in the Keep as a Warden and I was very surprised at how much he has matured, both mentally and physically.  I actually like him now, maybe even a lot,  I love how Bioware still retained his cheeky smile and dimples, and he still has the sarcasm, but he keeps it on a leash now.  Very well done to Bioware on both Alistair and Loghain wardens, no complaints at all.

Initially it is a shock when they change a lot of the game/gameplay but I also like diversity.  Once I get to know the game and chatch up to the underlying mecanics the ennoyance subsides.  The first time around the story pacing was off.  To date I still miss auto attack all the rest I could adjust to rather easily.

The story driven narrative or semi open world alternates in my opinion.  Maybe in ten years time the story driven part will be again dominant.  Truly innovative things are rare and difficult mostly it is older forgotten things that are trumpt up as new and innovative.

To date I am quite thankfull for SP/MP balancing because I don't like MP but fully understand others do in spite of the no auto attack as a result in SP.  Going back to solely SP gameplay is not going to be an option.  I think online gaming was thought to be the way by the gaming compagnies and they surtainly tried to persuade all gamers to solely that.

For now I consider myself lucky to have dodged that only online gameplay bullet but am certain the compagnies will try and succeed in the future.  It would be innovative if Bioware would pull off one RPG like DAI with modding capabilities before this happens.  That would be a balancing act streched to the max, but I can dream.

I'd rather they not adjust the races again just because the "BSN" complained. Why should they change things just because of this den of villianry says they don't like it. The way things are now is fine.

In terms of Qunari, we've seen one in DA:I (or two) Iron Bull

If the artists have anything to do with animations I hope they overhaul a lot of the attacking animations. The Knight Enchanter spirit blade attack is cooler looking then any warrior attack except for the Parry and Earthshake. I also hope to see some new weapon designs other then small medium large. Or Dagger, Sword, Greatsword or especially with axes. Right now there is no Smaller battle axe that, by technique requires two handed grip and design.

Besides great axes every other "Axe" is a hatchet more or less. Also some better sword designs would be appreciated as I still feel like the first sword, in inquisition sword, in the beginning is the better looking sword in the game. Its simple, realistic and not cartoony. Weapons don't need to have all kinds of weird unnecessary things/decoration on them. You can make 50 differet looking swords with more subtle changes to the hilt, the pommels, the grips, wrappings arund the grips, the blade shape, engravings, etc. Instead of "Lets through some spikes on the base of the blade or what not.

Bring back DA2's greatword animations and add to that. Also bring back duel hatchet for rogues. Also if I have armor on my warrior that has daggers in th belt then I eed to bee able to have an auxillary ability to use them in a way that doesn't require me to equip them or even have the option but maybe an ability where if staggering an enemy or attacking from behind I can draw a auxillary dager and deal a killing blow if health is below half or something. Crafting more accessories for armor like belts and sheaths and uh to hold gear and weapons like throwing knifes, traps, or more arrows. (Maybe arrows run out after 2o or so and thers a cooldown in wich you'd have to use daggers while u wait a minute for the arrows to respawn... ) Deffierent types of arrows

Definetaly MORE CREATURE and ENEMY DESIGNS. Arcan Horror or Rage Demons can all look differently while maintaining a themed aesthetic so you know its a rage demon
