GODDAMNED MOTHERFUCKING PRIMES, of course! How's that even a question...

I found ME2 to be the hardest. ME1 was made ridicolously easy by selected powers. You just had to survive the early levels, and you could do that with just a grain of salt in your approach. ME2 was challenging from the first mission to the last one. It had some encounters which were capable of challenging you even in the end-game, when you had all the evolutions you needed and could be in pretty much god mode against most encounters, if you made sensible choices. But still, there were some that would make you sweat for it. ME1 had nothing like that. Once you unlocked lift/singularity/immunity/whatever, it was just one roflstomp after the other.

Actually, I think that ME2's difficulty scaling was quite possibly the single best one I've ever seen in a video game. Definitely one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game. Wish Skyrim had something like that :?

It does! With mods anyway... :D

Don't forget the Atlas missiles. The **** that they can pull is mind bending. Or just bending

Note: Atlas missiles, not the Atlas ;)

I like the magic explosions that blow you toward the blast.

Maybe you guys are right about it but the brokeness of ME1 combat is what I felt made it harder, In ME2 you could just stay behind cover at all times at some points and never take damage, but the single best level out of the whole series to me is the "dead" reaper in ME2 with the husk rush and scions, the music really makes that level.

Dragoons. I don't know if their insta-switch from melee to frelon XXX was intended but it certainly makes them imbalanced.
Honorable mention to the guardian for his uselessness, since any piercing mod will make a joke of his shield.

I agree. Dragoons blow. Followed by geth missile glitchers and on-host phantoms.

Clearly Phantoms. It turns out the most dangerous foe in the galaxy is a skinny girl with a sword. Who knew!

A skinny girl destroyed 20 years of my life, and she didn't even need a sword. On the heels of that, another girl grew my hopes and then broke my heart.

The ones with swords are merciful. They make it quick and clean.

the derelict reaper in ME2 was one of my favorite levels in that game.

There are a few worthy candidates.  Scions especially possessed Scions are ridiculous, as are Praetorians.  Dragoons are very unfair and unbalanced.

But Phantoms are far and away the most ridiculous, unbalanced enemies in the game, bar none.

Sadly, it does not. Not even with mods. I have yet to find a scaling mod that really satisfies me... I'm even considering making one myself, lol XD

Phantoms are the most dangerous, but I just want to say that those motherf*cking dragoons have pissed me off more than any other enemy. They are relentless and all in all I think they're the most poorly designed pieces of sh*t.

For being too good:  Phantoms (sync kill, Black Widow palm blaster, powerful staggering melee, anti-power bubble, on-host DR - couldn't they have spread this out over multiple units?!)), followed by Possessed Scions (stay in cover and you are dead, leave cover and you are dead) and Dragoons (It's called self preservation, guys.  Ever hear of it?).

On the other end: Nemesis (if by herself), and Guardians (unless you take his shield away).

Huh, and out of the five I listed, four of them are Cerberus...

I think ME1 was much harder than ME2, regardless. It was much easier at the end ofc, as once you had your weapons and powers maxed it was basically god mode, but I only found ME2 if I used my house rules of "no one is ever allowed to fall during a mission," which Miranda single-handedly made ridiculously tough.

Agreed on ME3 being easy. Only the enemy spam on London when you're at the trucks is tough, and that's only if you do the silly rules that I follow. :P

ME1 definitely had that whole classic RPG feel to it, where you start off as a peasant, but end up as a death-dealing destroyer of worlds.

Especially on Insanity.

Phantoms don't have DR for no reason. It's whenever they're in their flip animation usually, and the animation continue for a short time even after they touch back on to the ground. Phantoms are definitely the most out of balance though.

I also find hunters frustrating, but that's only because they're bugged and keep shooting me while they're bugged.

Primes spawning turrets through walls is pretty frustrating too.

Actually while it's not technically for "no reason", Phantoms have DR just for moving. The thing is that it only applies against the hosting player, and even then you can use projectile weapons to bypass it.

When they flip, there is a short time just after they land where the DR isn't active which means if you have a more high powered weapon like the Javelin the best way of killing them as the host it to get them to flip and headshot them as they land.

Gold/Cerberus/Anywhere and Platinum/London/Geth have the highest bullshit quota. The latter is enjoyable only if you have Energy Drain.

Ceterum censeo Cerberum esse delendum.

Yup the atmosphere for that level was just awesome what with you seeing all the dead mutilated people and then getting bumrushed by all those husks and abomination. I steamrolled through it the second time though by bringing grunt and the Cain with me!

The Reaper IFF is a fun mission, although Scions spaz out like crazy and won't shoot if they have to fight a combat drone, making them a total afterthought.

Nonetheless, all the Collector missions are a great blend of challenge and fun. They're challenging enough that you'll die if you aren't careful, but easy enough that with a good plan, you can move your squad through with everyone intact.

ME2's gameplay is serially underrated. ME3's controls were better (such as being able to sprint for more than 2 seconds) but there were certain things that just made the game. Combat banter was the big one.

"Scoped and DROPPED!"

"Thought I was harmless, did you?!"

"Want some more?"

"TOO LATE. NOW YOU'LL FRY!"

But I digress. I think what made ME2's combat so great was that rather than artificially buffing enemies to ridiculous amounts (although they did scale somewhat), difficulty was based more around the number of enemies, where they came from, where you were fighting, and what the cover was like. All in all, pretty balanced.

Phantoms on their own are really terribad.

Deadly palmblasters from afar, unstoppable fast sync kill up close, small fast moving hard to hit target, at times invisible and LOL-powers-bubble.

But let's be honest, Cerberus without Phantoms are a joke if you don't get inbetween 3 turrets at the same time somehow.

As I suggested in my "Phantoms vs Nemesis" thread, Phantoms should have a less devastating ranged gun and Nemesis would need a up close sync kill move

Or would a CAT6 enemy faction be  more fun to fight?

ME2 had no dodge -> ME2 combat wasn't as good as ME3.

I found ME2 easiest.  It was tricky to begin with; but once I had a fair few ranks in Shepard's powers, it became almost trivial (this was on Normal difficulty, btw; I had next to no ability with combat in any of the games before joining BSN).  On the "dead Reaper" ship in ME2, I basically ignored the Husks, just let them hammer at Shepard's shields until the tech armour auto-detonated and killed them ;-)

ME1 I found quite challenging, even on Normal.  I kicked it down to Casual difficulty a few times when I was struggling to get past a particular point, e.g. the geth/krogan battle after rescuing Liara.

ME3 wasn't too hard for the most part except for the "pressure" situations like the Brute rush in the maw hammer section of Tuchanka, or that final missile defence part in London.  Oh, and Marauder Shields.

OT: toss-up between Dragoons who can cross half the map in a single pounce and drop shields to nothing, or Phantoms that are essentially three baddies' worth of pain in a single unit, as was mentioned upthread.

The thing I love about ME2 combat to this day was having to worry about the enemies defenses. In ME2 if you were an adept you have to make sure and bring a teammate with some way of getting through shields. Or if you were an engineer you had to get through barriers.

In ME3 if I am a biotic. All I have to do is bring a biotic team and boom everything.

In ME2 overload didnt work on barriers.
Warp wouldnt prime anything. It would only blow stuff up.

ME3 so easy with the combos one can do.

guys! how can you answer that question.

because this depends entirely on the character (class/weapon) you are playing.

for example: based on that, PHANTOMS are either a joke or almost invincible
