I'm equally unimpressed that I have to log into Origin just to play the game. This makes loading times slow for me (upwards to 3 or 4 minute wait time), and I see no way to play this game offline. I bought the game to PLAY it, not load the game into Origin or put my information into the website. Way to go Bioware - NOT!

Not a fan of Origin or EA either, but I don't think Bioware had an option to say "Yo EA...let's not do that"

3 to 4 minutes also seems way long for Origin. Are you sure that isn't just the game being slow to start?

You can't set Origin offline?
The game forces you to log into Origin to play. One can turn off their internet connection while logged into Origin if it's that big of a concern, but otherwise, yeah, you have to log in.

Unfortunately game clients are very big in PC gaming now so you would need to log in to the game regardless of client used for DRM.
Even DRM free sites like GOG are creating client programs since the majority of users find them easier to use for keeping track of games and installing patches and getting additional content.

Oh, yeah, I know Origin has to run. But it doesn't need to talk to Bio except for the first time, right? I haven't tested this with anything except ME3 myself. (I was assuming that a bad connection was causing the OP's delay, since Origin itself runs in seconds.)

You do need to log in to Origin but, you can log in with Origin in offline mode. The only time you MUST have an internet connection and, have Origin online is when it needs to verify ownership of the game or to update/download a patch or DLC.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Origin either. At least on Steam I can make use of offline mode to play (most of) my games. I have issues with that on Origin sometimes. I really dislike Origin's UI as well. And I really really dislike that obnoxious achievement notification; it has scared the crap out of me on more than one occasion. Thanks to reddit I now hear Sandal's "Enchantment!" whenever an achievement pops - which amuses me to no end.
I wish they'd add some of Steam's features like gifting games to friends and an activity feed to share/comment/rate screenshots and vids my friends share. The activity feed is my favorite thing on Steam. I get turned on to new games all the time just by seeing what others are currently rocking out on.

Ah I see what you mean. I think you are correct? And I would be inclined to agree with the latter half of your comment too. I think the long loading times for the OP are due to something else, other than just Origin (perhaps a bug, older system, etc.)

Origin does have an Offline mode, frankly I find it works better than Steams as every game I try to play offline Steam tries to go back online while Origin stays offline.

Origin doesn't add anything to the gaming experience; just another application that sucks up processing and sticks advertising in your face. Had to install Origin it to finish off ME3 series and when I had my fill of ME 3 uninstalled Origin. And recently found the trilogy was available for the PS3, so I got it so I could replay it down the road.
Origin, lack of a Frostbite toolkit (no mods) and the new PC DRM were enough to persuade me to get the PS4 version of Inquisition. These things are just punishment for supporting the game legitimately.

Yep, I know. But it doesn't always work for me. Sometimes when I select 'go offline' Origin will lock up or just simply won't go offline. I've talked to customer service and all I got from them was uninstall/reinstall, which I did, but it still occasionally gets all weird. In all honesty I suspect it may have something to do with my less than stellar ISP.
Oddly enough I rarely have any sort of issues with Steam. Sooo.. I dunno.

Wow that is wierd, for me it's the other way around - never had an issue with Origin but Steam is always the one to crap out. The number of times Steam crashed on me when going to offline mode is just ridiculous

I agree. But I got over being bothered by this sort of thing a few months after Valve crammed Steam down my throat with HL2.

Whenever I tried to play ME3 with Origin offline, the game would keep closing because the connection to Origin had been lost.
... Even though it's set to offline mode.

I also get 3/4 minute loads..
I get odd black screen with little green loading in the corner 1 min, then a loading screen with tarot cards 1 min, then the black screen with tiny green loading 1 min..
Then the games playable..

Yeah, that's DAI itself being slow to load. Origin doesn't put any loading screen up when it runs. All you get is the standard "wait" cursor" for a few seconds.
