Seems pretty accurate to me..

Consider, if you will, the connection when David Gaider, the lead writer of Dragon Age Inquisition, actively defends Anita Sarkeesian.

That line there explains a lot to me, i think as long as hes in charge i'm done with Bioware..

There are plenty of reasons to be done with Bioware, this article unfortunately is not one of them. Unless your knowledge of the game is as superficial as hers.

No, I am going to assume you are trolling and just laugh.

The whole BioWare Forum is full of Trolls, i can see why Dave Gaider said this place is "increasingly toxic".

I think Bioware was getting tired of the Incubus request they just dropped them to avoid the request. Which I don't blame them at all for.

Also they reduced the types of common elemental damage to Electric, Fire, and Ice, with each of them having a respective demon (which in turn changes the resistances of accompanying wraiths).

Pride demons were a must have (electricity) and rage demons are iconic as pride demons at this point (representing fire, and being another very iconic demon representing an incredibly common sin). Desire demons couldn't very well represent ice, since they have seemed to, thus far, spellcasting demons (mechanically). It seems like a stretch to associate them with ice, and they would have to be resistant to cold damage despite the fact that they pretty much only wear underwear.

If we would rather continue the circlejerk, then could someone please pass me the lube?

Because they were sexy with the eclipse engine, now imagine with the Frostbite 3 ......., next time i wish that they would cut a race option to include the possibility to play as a Desire demon.

Okay, well, I'm going to drop in quick with my opinion.

First of all, I'd consider myself a social justice warrior...I'm a feminist, I think content in games matters in terms of offensiveness/progressiveness and so forth, I'm a huge fan of Sarkeesian as well as others speaking up about these issues, I'm for games (any media, really) trying to do better in matters of sex, sexuality, gender, race, gender expression, ethnicity, oppression, I could go on....

Anyway, Desire Demons. Well, first off on them being cut: I have no idea why they didn't appear, but personally, I really doubt it was because of political correctness. I mean, there ARE nude scenes in the game, after all, and it's rated mature, so the idea of including sex or nakedness is clearly not off the table. Personally, I think it's far more likely that they:

1.) Didn't have the time/resources to redo Desire Demons in the new engine

and/or

2.) They didn't feel the need to include them in this game, especially since we saw a bajillion of them in DA2.

As for how I feel about Desire Demons themselves...

I actually don't think they're all that bad. Taken by themselves, there are problematic aspects to them: they're clearly designed and play into an assumed straight male gaze just like so many other things in games do, and they are also pretty much defined by their sexiness even in the world and their role in the games. However, I think it's important that there are also plenty of other females in the games who are not those things. Desire Demons are sexy because that's the point; they're supernatural creatures that often deal in lust and temptation. It's quite different from having a tough lady warrior decked out in a chainmail bikini during a fight - one makes sense and is believable...the other does not. If all the women were like Desire Demons, I'd be shouting from the rooftops about how dumb that was...but Bioware didn't do that in their games.

If we see them in future games (I'd like them to come back), I would like to see more variation in them - I will admit that I never liked that they appear SOLELY as supermodel females since we know they change. I realize this was a restriction on what models they could make/use, but still...please have more variety in desire demons. But ultimately, I really don't think they're a problem. Like Gaider said a while back, if we get to a place where we can't have any sexual females, I'd say that's a whole other kind of sexist problem.

Balance, nuance, and context are important.

DA:I had loads of different animals, bandits, carta dwarves, demons, templars, venatori, Chasind, Freemen and several well done bosses.

Who all come in the shield, archer, spellbinder, brute and redshirt variety - good job! At this rate ME4 will probably have Reapers with riot shields and Cerberus brutes.

They were cut because they were too predictable and trite. How many times have we seen the Succubus-type demon in fantasy series?

It's not the fact that they were half naked that they weren't included in DAI. It's the fact that they were half naked females, which would've been more fuel for feminists and social activists like Sarkeesian to use against Bioware. Of course, they could've created two different models for the desire demon, but between the resources needed to create two different models for the same demon as well as coming up with a way to have the right gendered demon be in a player's game seems to have been too much of a challenge for Bioware to have just decided to scrap the entire demon instead of dealing with the hassle. I mean, Pride demons are supposedly more rare than Desire demons, yet they pop up like crazy compared to the one Desire demon in the game. In the grand scheme of things, though, I really care little for Desire demons and I'm just tossing this out as another opinion as to why Bioware could've decided to scrap these demons.

We have felacio, nudity, and shaving jokes, followed by scenes of banging in barns, but a desire demon is controversial? What a beautiful world we live in.

I doubt nudity was a reason, considering there's full-frontal female nudity in the game from both Sera and Cassandra.

Blackwall leaves the Inquisitor in buff and just walks out. So most of the charged words we like to imply are the reason probably aren't.

I understand what you're saying with this statement, but please don't use Anita Sarkeesian as a mouthpiece for any kind of social issues that video games face. She's wholly incapable of presenting an objective point that's backed up by either logic or research.

This is the same woman who claims that Hitman: Absolution promotes killing innocent women, despite the game actively penalizing you for killing any innocents at all. Her method of "proving" her case was by playing the game herself and recording her killing strippers. She doesn't even try to hide that the game penalizes you in her footage, it's plainly visible. Meanwhile, anyone who plays the game legitimately (that is, someone playing the game for the sake of having fun and being entertained) knows to avoid harming or killing innocents, because the game penalizes you for harming or killing innocents. Her logic equates to "since you're ABLE to do it, you're being ENCOURAGED to do it", which is fallacious and illogical. Might as well be saying "You can fall to your death off a skyscraper in GTA, therefore GTA is telling people they should jump off of skyscrapers".

Like I said, it's not because of their nudity but because they were females. In the sex scenes, both males and females get equal treatment with the nudity but to have a demon that speaks, looks, and acts in a slovenly manner to entice the player be female only would give a number of social activists/feminists a reason to attack Bioware.

Blackwall is never nude, and Femquistor is. Sera is S/S and is about as high as this elevator goes. Reverse this with some IB scenes and Cullen. That's obviously not true.

Desire Demons don't "entice" people. Not with their sexuality, anyway. They look like a standard fantasy succubus, but they don't behave like one. If someone makes a big deal about that, they're an idiot.

And no, the nudity treatment isn't exactly "fair". Only the nude women are seen with clear view of their bodies. The naked men are obscured from the waist down.

True, but that's hardly something restricted to video games.  Yeah, it occasionally happens once in a blue moon on movies, but really, how often do you see, as Sera would put it, "dangle bags" compared to seeing lady bits?
