My friend and I are playing DA:I. We came across this cave painting in Crestwood. We can't figure out if it's a dragon or a bird or what. Is this some kind of easter egg? What does this painting depict? And beyond that, is it a clue to something? A hidden dungeon? A dragon location? (??)
"Is it a marlin or a heron?" was my first thought. 
That's actually one I don't recall seeing yet. It's lovely! I really like all of the 'cave-paintings.' At first they were impressive, but they sort of lost their luster for me when it became difficult to walk ten feet or so without running into duplicate ones (but perhaps three times the size!) in some regions.
It looks like a swordfish or marlin to me.

Ooh, I haven't seen this one! I feel like all of the rock paintings we see in the game are significant lore-wise, we just don't know it yet.
Wouldn't it be funny if this was just the Thedas equivalent of graffiti? At night the children of Crestwood would steal their parent's painting supplies and "discover" these "cave paintings"

There's wall paintings all over the place; iirc the Exalted Plains has a bunch. Actually I think I've seen them in any area with a strong Elvish background.
It probably has some lore tie ins but I think it's more atmospheric than anything else.
It looks like a bird to me. Maybe an ancient extinct species.
It also made me think of a creature in the move 'Princes and Princesses'

It does look like a horse. I also looks like a marlin or swordfish. AND it looks like a bird!
I'm so confused. But I liked this:
It is a depiction of the Spirit of Harmony. It shows that once the Ancient Elves could converse with Spirits without turning them into something else. Like Wisdom Spirit turning into a Demon of Pride. Interactions with a Harmony Spirit like this one turns it into a Rage Demon.
