Play routine and loot vases and chest rooms until you have a good enough weapon for running threatening fast (~level 15+ unique/rare, ~level 20+ common).

 

Play classes that you have good weapons for and avoid classes you have bad weapons for.

 

Play threatening when you can do fast runs, try to get friends who like to do vases and chests. If you pug threatening, you will notice that sometimes teams will skip chests, just go with the flow, they skip the chests because they have reached the point where they no longer care about gold. After around 250k-500k gold spent, your odds of getting new useful items DROPS DRAMATICALLY compared to when you first start out, so don't hate on people who choose to skip vases and chests.

 

Avoid perilous until you have reached the point where you value attributes from promotions above gold, maybe when you have around ~250k-500k gold spent. Most people skip vases and chests on perilous, and increasingly so, because they have reached the point where attributes from promotions far outweigh the tiny chance they have at obtaining their missing items.

 

 

Alternatively, if you want to be hardcore, once you have a good staff (~18-20+ unique/rare), master the AW on perilous running fade cloak, fade step, spirit blade, and pull of the abyss. Another option is to master keeper/archer stacking or any of the other ranged classes (all except hunter are quite good with good weapon and cookie cutter OP builds you can find on forum). By skipping gold farming and just farming XP on perilous as soon as you are able to, it will benefit you most in the long run, and if you intend to play for many hundreds of hours you may save ~100+ hours compared to wasting time on routine/threatening if you really dedicate yourself to cheesing perilous.

Depends on how much points you have. Threatening is the fastest if you don't have a bunch of promotions. Even then once threatening starts to feel like routine just do that some more.

A full group and by full i mean all 4, not 3 and the aw roaming the plains ahead can kick the crap out of any of the chest room bosses in no time.  The only time there is trouble is when half a group is in the chest room.

I THINK he's asking about what size chest is the best chest to buy, how much gold he should stack up before buying, and what level (I assume prestige) would be most beneficial in terms of odds when buying.

It depends on how noobish you are. The rate you can collect gold is proportional to how fast you (and your lobby) can kill on a specific difficulty.

 

Recommendations - 

Promotion stats:

If you're 20/20/20 then you should have no trouble with Threatening and should be able to raid treasure rooms (unless you're lobbied with other noobies).

If you're 30/30/30 then you should be able to do Perilous but you should be skipping doors.

Above 30/30/30 and you should be able to do Perilous with doors (IF you team isn't full of noobies).

 

Gear:

Threatening - iLvl 12 or higher weapon with at least 1 Master Rune, Tier 2 Armor, at least 2 Rare accessories.

Perilous - iLvl 20 or higher weapon with at least 1 Superb Rune, Tier 3 Armor, at least 1 Superb accessory and all slot filled.

 

Play Routine until you are proficient on each map. You should know every room that will or will not spawn a chest boss. That's how you know you're ready to step up. If it takes you and your team longer than 30 secs to kill off a chest boss then that you (and/or them) are not geared up enough. You may want to stick to skipping rooms (that don't spawn bosses) or going down a level.

 

Keep an eye out for bannered players on Routine. They may be doing banner-runs so it's a good opportunity to snatch up loot while they are killing. It's a win-win for you because it's easy gold and almost guaranteed extraction.

My only problem with that is,that I am kinda ashamed to play Routine with my Wealth banner  and Pathfinder title,so I run usually disguised as a nooby.

I've had quite a few games with friends + pugs, obviously ignoring doors, but then all of a sudden you see a Revenant walking freely on the map.

You could stay at level 20 to ensure that you don't get kicked from perilous/ensure that your team wins more...but you won't get promotions. In the short run, this would be the faster way to get gold...in the long run, promotions would probably help you more.
