So, the Mithral Golem is in now. With my new method I can do conversions in under 20 minutes. I am using Lich eyes or something in the screenshot, I will create custom eyes for it in a bit. I may increase the glossiness too, since I think a Mithral Golem should be a bit shiny. Harpy and Demonflesh are next. 4760 is sending me his french tutorial soon. I may release a tutorial for my new method or add to his tutorial if his method is not the same as what I found.

Great! Note that NWN typically has textures available in more than one size. There should be a higher resolution texture available under the same name.

Here's how it looks in the NWN toolset:

I will look through the NWN resources for it. I was wondering about that, I know NWN had some hideous models, but I do not recall it having awful textures. :P

The higher res c_golmit.dds file is in NWN Texture Packs / xp2_tex_tpa.erf / Textures, DDS. It's in the old DDS format used in NWN, so you'll need to export as TGA. But you can then convert it back to the newer DDS format used in NWN2.

Yes, I found them already. Are there any for the standard NWN creatures? I could not find one in the texture packs for the horror.

Demonflesh Golem is in the toolset and game, although I believe I need to reweight the model. Below is a group file to show the updated texture work on the other golems as well. No texture update for the horror though, that poor spiky bastard. :P

I think they look splendid, posing plenty of new challenges for a mid to high level party. If the texture on the hook horror isn't quite perfect, well the PC is probably going to be fighting it in a dimly lit underdark passage anyway. I wonder if there's a way to reproduce the chest glow on that Mithral Golem using a visual effect?

Self Illumination map for the model would do it. Cloth skin variants for different self illumination colors.

I fixed the Demonflesh Golem. I will work on the Mithral Golem's glow effects when I have more free time. I have a few ideas how to get the chest glow to work, Kamal's idea sounds pretty good too. I might try that, thanks for suggesting.

Next creature to come... Harpy!

There's the "miner's hat" item from Misery Stone I think, it casts an actual beam of light out, and it orients with the head (bobbing and turning as the players head does). That could be modified to originate from the chest light of the golem.

Try with this one then.

No luck with the golem textures: none of them had any high-res tga/dds.

Thanks for the Hook Horror texture, 4760. I found the high resolution textures to the golems. Where did you find the Horror one?

Inside "Textures_Tpa.erf".

4760 is sending me his french tutorial soon.

The tutorial is now available both in English and French on the new vault.

All comments welcome of course.

Thanks 4760. That is so weird, at first I thought I had the highest one, but you found a higher one in that same file. I will look at it again, I kept finding medium textures for the standard creatures. I found high textures for the expansion creatures.

I did the Ettercap real quick this morning. The Harpy, Flesh Golem, Bone Golem, Stone Golem, Bodak, Mohrg, Penguin, Deep Rothe, and both Hobgoblins are on the way as well. I just need to finish a few animations for each of those. I will include some other creatures if I notice any others. Troglodytes, Stingers, and Asabis might be nice additions too. I will release these as a massive creature pack.

After reading 4760s tutorial, I realized I did actually discover a much faster alternative way to do conversions. I will either write my own tutorial or add it to his if he wants, since his tutorial is the most complete and well-detailed so far. It allows one to complete conversions A LOT faster.

Enjoy the screenshot.

I was most excited about Ettercaps and Hook Horrors myself. I missed a lot of the NWN creatures in NWN2. ^_^

Sure, feel free to complete the tutorial. What is your alternative to do it faster?

By the way, I also tested the method on a creature requiring more than one part (due to the 54 bones limit). No surprise I chose the green dragon:

901-1-1425381152.png 901-2-1425381152.png

This dragon (which is directly imported from NWN, no smoothening done) uses four mdb files:

- the body

- the wings

- the tail

- an extra body part for the comb between the pikes on the neck (this one because it uses the same texture as the wings).

That shot illustrates one of the issues with some NWN creature models--the lack of a smooth join between the different parts. The model will often consist of a series of smaller parts that overlap, rather than blending smoothly into each other. It shows up with the statues as well. I suppose it helps to avoid stretching of textures, but it also doesn't look as good.

It would be really cool to have a NWN2-animation-styled Green Dragon.

Someone did tintable nwn2 dragons with a white base. That would cover a green dragon unless you really wanted the particular head shape.
