Why are female's anatomy so off?

Isn't the way she sits dependent on what dialogue option you choose? Not that it has anything to do with anatomy problems, though.

Are you sure about that? I feel like in every judgement cutscene I've seen in game or on youtube, the IQ sits like some fratbro falling asleep at lecture. I hate it so much lol, and sometimes it's immersion breaking because it doesn't match the diplomatic personality IMO (esp if you're a Trevelyan, come on, where you learn to sit like that??)

Yeah, at least my quizzy always changed position after first dialogue line, depending on the choice.

I mean, I generally hated how the judgement looked, mainly because male elf anatomy in that beige pajama, sitting, was just a terrible sight, as if someome did something nasty to lower part of his spine and surgically implanted a basketball in his pelvis... But of changing pose I'm sure ;)

Female inquisitor is a warrior girl who has been trained how to behave like a princess and present herself at ball's. Naturally she would have amazing posture, hold her shoulders back, and walk with self-esteem. Slouching would probably feel a little awkward for her... probably even make her feel embarrassed.

Have you seen the way Cassandra walks? Her family tried to teacher how to behave, and they even tried to fit her into a dress. She probably developed her walk at a early age before becoming a warrior girl.

As for the sitting animation... I think it is shared with guys.

All cutscene animation are shared.

I take no issue in femquisitor walking like a dude in cutscenes, I rather like it (as opposed to the gameplay running -- BioWare seems to go out of their way to make female running animations ridiculous).

About all the rest: the OP is just right. Considering that I am amazed how this thread could get any more entries than like 5 confirmations.

Reminds me of Femshep in ME 2 whenever she sat down while wearing that dress. Ditto on the latter with Viv.

Well as for the sitting this 'oversight' could be seen as another sign of male/female equality in Thedas.  Women there can sit how they like with their legs spread if they want without tempting rape or other sexual harrassments, assaults or criticisms of showing off their camel toes.

I for one welcome our new ****** wielding overlords.

OTOH - Animators should take note to proof any work where gender specifics may come into play.  It is something that is obvious now but may have been opaque at the time.

The only thing I really resent is the way my female Inquisitor walks in some cutscenes - slouching, and as if she had hot coals between her legs. Not at all like a leader. Our Inquisitors aren't Neanderthals, damn it.

Elsewhere, there are some oddities but you get used to them. Haven't played a male elf yet, though. I've heard they're horrible.

Being given the option for women to sit and act manly isn't what bothers me, because like Siha said, some people will totally love it and I'm all for it.

What I had wished for, on the other hand, is the possibility to chose an attitude and a posture style at the beginning of the game, so that such scenes wouldn't occur in that "manly" way had you wanted a more feminine/noble attitude for your character. I feel like they screwed up my immersion of the game at times because of that. And that goes for females and males, I'm pretty sure not all male!Inquisitor players would like their Inquisitor to open their legs wide open on the throne as if they were the newest stars of "Men taking too much space on the throne train" tumblr.

I'm totally aware that it'd would require a lot of work, and animators would have to work twice as much if not more (depending on how many posture styles they'd intend to insert in the game), hence why I can understand and excuse most of it, but it felt definitely out of my character at times, to walk and sit like she did. Totally not how I would headcanon it, and going against her personality as well.

All the backlash about femshep walking and running like a man, now complaints that femquisitor walks and runs like a girl?  How can they win? I actually like the feminine touches they made, makes me feel like my femquisitor is not just a fighter but also a lady.

The Breach mutated everyone.

Tis' the only explanation why Male Elves have broken arms & prepubescent boobs, why female Elves look like they have extra vertebrae, why the shoulders on Human Females are awkward, why female breast sizes shrunk, why Qunari lost their claws & look too humanized.

Dammnit Fen'Harel & Corpyphefish ! You both have doomed us all !

And dwarves have extra magic resistance so they look normal... You're brilliant!

...but I dare to disagree, whatever happened to elven anatomy, they're in fact recuperated a lot from that terrible mutation they all underwent between DA:O and DA 2.

Unless it was how Varric sees elves - if that's dwarven perception of elves, that explains why we hear about elf-blooded humans but not once have we encountered an elf-blooded dwarf or dwarf-elf hybrid.

Something well...normal would do, I think. It just go in two extremes, which just makes it worse.

I'm not fan of Tarzan animation even for men,  makes me think  of this:

It was kind of alarming for me when I realized Bull could probably wrap one hand entirely around my female elf's midsection if he tried.

...

Same, only... alarming isn't the word I'd use.

Lets face it, nothing they do will make everyone happy at best I think we should be happy they are at least trying to take what we want into consideration.

In a game that is supposed to be theirs they are making a lot of compromises and still people complain.

Customers are THE worst people.

Just to be clear I am not getting at you personally just a general statement.

Very, very girly lol Trust me. Also the way the arms float alongside the body, like the inquisitor thinks she's a pretty pretty princess

I like that she walks like a pretty princess.

Lol, I'm the only person I know of who doesn't mind the hip swinging and the feminine motions (as far as it doesn't diminish her combat badassery). I really, really disliked FemShep's way of swinging her arms so widely. If it's a choice between the two extremes, I prefer this.

I don't mind it either and actually like it. You can be badass and still feminine. It also distinguishes from the male animation so that's also good.

I played male Hawke first in DA2. When I saw how female Hawke ran, I almost couldn't keep playing her.   Her body was moving every which way and it looked like she belonged in the Blooming Rose with those moves.  Had to use a mod to make her move like the male Hawke before I was happy.  :)

If most of you people think that fem!Inquisitor is too feminine when she walks, then god forbid you ever play any Asian video games. This is nothing, NOTHING compared to how feminine they can get! Just take a look at Bayonetta, that should give you a taste of it ;D
That been said, Bayonetta is also more badass than most video game characters I know, proof that femininity and badassery are in NO WAY incompatible.

If nothing else it makes the game unpolished.  I really don't think that this particular thing was about vision, unless you mean that the game was meant to be played with a male character only. Most likely they run out of time.

I'm bothered by this too. Cassandra and Sera as well as any female inquisitors all have their shoulders jutting forward at an extremely awkward angle that I'm not sure is even possible in real life. You can see it really well in that early scene with Cass when she's hitting the practice dummies - her shoulders come forward so much they almost seem to come apart from her body.

It bothers me that the women have such narrow shoulders...Cass's shoulders are too narrow, IMO and so are the shoulders of my human female. And the slumping, crouching, beaten down look!  I also agree about the boney arms...it hurts to see them.

But, at least my human doesn't have as many problems as the body of the elves.

Boney but not broken like my male elf hands..

The opposite actually.  Look at femshep, she basically was a female looking character with male animations, which made it seem like that game was intended for a male character only and female characters were just an after thought, it seems this time round they have actually tried to incorporate the characteristics of a female character whilst in development, giving her her own animations. I don't see how it makes it less polished because they haven't just slapped male animations on a female character but actively made a different set entirely.

Because she jumps from hulk to sassy female, there is no different set for the cut-scenes, that what makes it unpolished and half-done.

Aside from that the male animation skeleton really don't take into consideration the different models, which is why there is so much distortion in elves and human females. Even if you are going to say that there is nothing wrong with female walking this campy, it was not tuned to match the frame.
