I can complete the quest fine, but I can't talk to Bull afterwards.

I just get the default dialogue wheel, which is empty of all options except for 'goodbye'.

 

It doesn't matter what method I use to complete the quest. I see "catch up with Bull at Skyhold" pop up in the quest tracker but, like I said, he doesn't have anything to say.

The quest is 'completed' - the game thinks I've already talked to him.

 

It's really frustrating, because the only other save-game I have needs to what until the new patch releases (I need to recreate him and don't have slider screenies), and THIS save, I can't continue on because it is broken for some reason, and I don't want to sink more hours into something I have to restart.

Sounds like it glitched out for some reason. Reloading a previous save file and replaying the mission might be your only option, though it's obviously far from ideal.

 

Another suggestion is to try progressing through the game a bit further anyway and see if it changes anything with Bull. This one is a long shot, however.

Already tried that. That's the first thing I tried.

PC. Digital Deluxe. Things I tried (that didn't work):

- Reloading.

- Reloading earlier, and redoing quest.

- Restarting DAI.

- Noted I had a War Table mission related to Bull, reloaded, finished it, THEN redid quest.

- Leaving Skyhold, doing missions, then returning after quest.

- Leaving Skyhold, doing missions, then returning after accepting quest but before starting it.

- Restarting my computer and redoing quest.

- Redoing quest's other ending (to see if it affected both).

- Repairing game in Origin.

I had a similar bug with cullen and other quests, try completing a few quests that are out standing then do Qun one, or if you've done it complete some other quests before you meet and talk to him, i think a lot of these quest can glitch each other out etc..

No, try going into your journal and selecting the "Completed Quest" section. Go through each of these by selecting them.

 

Sometimes the quest doesn't complete automatically. Selecting it manually usually forces it to complete. Try that.

 

Save your game often.

The problem is that it is completing early. It is giving me credit for talking to him and I never have.

I'll try what Dante suggests, retry afterwards, and hope that works. Thank you.

 

 

edit: Looks like the 'talk to Bull at Skyhold' is the default convo with Gatt - and the approval between the quest starting, and the last convo, is actually separate requirements. My previous saves must have hiked enough approval to unlock them one after the other, wheras this one, not-so-much. I resigned it to failure, did some judgements, got a Great Approval and suddenly peeps were willing to attack him...
