Yeah, the AI running into damage is getting really old.

Don't be ridiculous. There was no companion AI in the previous games, only that what was coded for them, by yourself.

I never understood the fascination with the tactics screens in the previous games. It screams absence of AI all over.

Also @ OP: learn to use Hold Position command properly.

If that's so ridiculous why is it my companions never died in the other dragon Age games and they constantly do in this one, i played with tactics in all three, set up mages to do what i expected of them, in this game rogues and mages are dead nearly every serious battle and they are the main culprits for emptying my potion stash..

If i limit their potion addiction they lay on the ground refusing to move multiple times a fight, and expecting AI mages to resurrect them is a 30/70 chance.. (usually mages are the ones laying down)

I never had any issues in Origins with any AI and Dragon Age 2 combat was usually over so fast no one lost any health.. plus we had potions and healing skills a many to fall back on..

Hold position command brakes if you switch characters at any distance..

Hold does not work in DAI on pc. It is not user error.
Hold means hold, stay in place - that place I tell you to and do not move one inch until I release you.

Hold in DAI is stay in 1 place for a split second then run to the controlled character and push them off the ledge!

I believe hold wqs set up the wrong way round in DAI, if you tell them to hold they move, if you want them to follow you and run head long I to a major fight thry are often still stood at the bottom of a ladder or still standing on a ledge. Drives me mad when they don't follow you .... or hold!
