Chapter 16:

"I can't stand it. She was so real, I could almost hold her again..."


"I can't believe Dobby's gone..."


"It just makes me want to kill something!!"

E-Ro and Walker look at one another. Both were deep in grief, and wanted the purest form of catharsis. Combat. Deadly, deadly combat. Wordlessly, they reach an accord. Nodding at the barkeep to get E-Ro and herself another drink, Walker plants herself on the barstool next to E-Ro's.


"So, do you want to go on the next expedition?"


"Yes, I want to go and kill the Wizened Hag. I cannot rest until my Domina is avenged."


"Count me in. I can't drink scotch without a proper drinking buddy. It's horrible not having Dobby. And I know you're feeling the same way. I'll be happy to kill these accursed beasts all day, and if it helps you find peace, then that's doubly good. Want me to get Sim? He does kind of owe you..."


"No! Keep that Leper away from this expedition! OneWomanArmy is dead because of his 'leadership'. I have more trustworthy comrades to join us."

E-Ro and Johnnie Walker finish their drinks and E-Ro leads her to the gambling corner, where Despair Demon and mybudgee are carrying out expensive wagers.


"I'll bet this rare trinket that Sim gets everyone killed when he next leads."


"Sod off and make a proper wager. No one would bet against that. Hurr durr, I bet the sky will be blue today..."


"Fine. Then I bet I can get more kills than you in our next three expeditions. Winner gets a free week at the Brothel."


"You're on, DD."

The two shake hands. A gentleman's agreement, though the Bounty Hunter and the Highwayman were anything but.

Rounding up the two malcontents, E-Ro and his party of three set out on a very dangerous mission. To kill the Wizened Hag. The last expedition to kill her led to disaster, with Sim's followers OneWomanArmy, Eternal Phoenix and Jock Cranley all falling to the horrors of that horrid dungeon.

This time however, the Lobbyists come prepared. Using the money they had obtained on the last mission, they stuff their bags full of supplies. More than they would reasonably need.



E-Ro leads the Lobbyists into the Weald to confront the Hag, though a bloodthirsty Walker leads the party formation.



As they enter the forest, they quickly encounter hostile enemies.



mybudgee and Despair Demon go on the offensive, slaying the Fungi and Cultists with deadly precision.





The ruffians high five one another after the battle, while Walker loots a nearby backpack left behind by a previous adventurer.



Entering an empty section, they take some time to scout their immediate area and find a direction to progress in.




"Let's head west, the eastern path is a dead end and if the Hag is not there, we'll have to backtrack. If we go west, we can crisscross with the main forest clearing and give ourselves the best chance to find that old Hag. And gut her."

The Lobbyists head west, and find their path blocked by thick and un-natural root formations.



Walker grabs one of the shovels, and digs the team out of trouble. As she does so, she engages in a little introspection.


"You know, it's funny. Every week we risk our lives to save this forum from some curse, but perhaps the curse of the BSN isn't the un-named evil here. Perhaps the curse of the BSN is that it's a place to find and bond with new friends. Because you have to deal with the pain of being left behind when they inevitably fall, or leave."

E-Ro nods bitterly, he could understand. His Domina was gone, never to return.

But before the two continue wallowing in their grief, they're ambushed by a pack of Wild Dogs.



The Dogs attack fiercely, scratching and biting at the Lobbyists. Acting quickly, Despair Demon pulls out his pistol and begins shooting. Like a crazed cowboy from the Wild West, the Highwayman downs the pack one by one before the situation became serious.



Despair Demon smirks at budgee. There was no doubt now who was leading the count.
 
The team regains their focus and treads very carefully as they approach the next room, they get into position, then rush the door, catching their enemies by surprise.
 


The Lobbyists charge the Cultist group, with Despair Demon taking one down at range.



Walker closes in, and slices the head cleanly off one of the Cultists, spread fear among their ranks.



Despair Demon finishes the last cultist with a slashing attack, furthering his lead on budgee.


 
They continue plodding west as per E-Ro's instructions, and find themselves in and out of new areas in the forest.
 


Many of them with hostile enemies to vanquish.



The Fungus Artillery fires from range, covering E-Ro and Johnnie Walker in a cloud of toxic smoke, forcing them to fall back temporarily.




"I got this, stand back."

The Highwayman fires several shots at the Artillery using his pistol. One hits the Fungus creature, right where it hurts.



budgee sighs.


"How the hell am I supposed to beat him when he can just shoot enemies from a distance?"

With the Artillery taken care of, Walker sprints back towards the enemy and charges at the rabid mutt.



The other enemies quickly fall, and though the toxic gas took it's toll on the Lobbyists, they were still full of life.



Fulfilling the group's scouting duties, budgee is the first to notice how much ground they've covered on the expedition.


"We're close. Really close to the Wizened Hag. There's not many places left here to look for her."

E-Ro agrees. He had taken his path with the intent to explore as much of the Weald as possible. If the Wizened Hag was in the next room, vengeance would soon be his. However, the Crusader looks over at Johnnie Walker, though the Hellion was tough, fighting on the frontlines had taken their toll. She was wounded and probably needed rest.


"This is probably our last chance to rest, so we'll do it."

Making camp and pulling out their plentiful pack of supplies, they were able to fully restore their vitality.



As the Lobbyists slowly relax and munch on their food, they chat for a while, making small talk while steeling themselves for the upcoming battle.


"I am confident about our chances. E-Ro is leading us today, not Sim. We'll be fine. Trust me."


"Yeah, dammit Sim. I'm nervous as fuuck honestly. Still, I'm glad to be here with you guys right now. Dobby is gone, but while I still draw breath, I can fight in her memory to safeguard those who still remain. This expedition has given me a purpose, if nothing else. Thank you."


"You're all crazy and insane. But you're my kind of crazy. If we die, at least I don't have to pay for DD's hookers. We will do okay, though. I can feel it."

E-Ro is the last to speak, and he reminds the Lobbyists of their greater goal.




"My Domina is dead and will never come back... However! I can fight for a world where no one else will be taken away by the darkness like she was. And for that, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. mybudgee, Despair Demon, Johnnie. We can do this. Together."

Invigorated, refreshed and encouraged, the Lobbyists break camp and make their way towards the final room.



Determined to slay the Wizened Hag once and for all, they step through the door and come face to face with the horrid monster.
