Chapter 39:
The Weald is a perilous place, even moreso due to all the traps the MP Brigands laid out. Jehuty learns that the hard way.
However the team has no time to dwell, as they're soon confronted by a group of enemies. A pack of rabid dogs and an old crone.
The dogs attack first, one of them biting Corvus hard before the Arbalest is able to react.
However Voxr unleashes his dog on the hounds, and Bleach wreaks havoc on the enemy group.
Getting back to her feet, Corvus fires a spray of crossbow bolts all over the battlefield, however none hit the mark.
The old Crone begins chanting and attmpts to place a hex on Jehuty and Voxr. However, she's unsuccessful as the Lobbyists prove to be too mentally strong for the attack.
Meanwhile, leighzard corners one of the rabid dogs, and lops off it's head in one vicious swing.
"RARGHHH! WHO'S NEXT?!"
Jehuty follows up with a devastating charge of his own.
The old Crone looks on in horror as the pack of dogs are slain. Unable to fight on, she suffers a heart attack and dies on the spot.
The battle won, Voxr approaches the odd looking shrine. With Bleach needing to go, the Houndmaster obliges.
"Mhmm. "Holy Water". That's devilishly evil, Voxr."
"And why is it red?"
"Bleach has uhh.. a few health complications."
"Nice work, boy!"
Shaking her head, the irritable leighzard leads the group deeper into the Weald.
The trek is long and they soon find themselves in need of sustenance.
However leighzard pushes the team onward, while she allowed them to eat and quench their hunger, they continue to march.
They come across another the next cavern, and cautiously enter.
And they're greeted on the other side by a dog and enemy Fungi.
Darting across the battlefield, Bleach inflicts serious damage to their foes.
The Fungal Artillery react, launching toxic gas mortars at Voxr and Corvus, forcing Bleach to break his attack.
The rabid dog meanwhile, goes after leighzard. However the Hellion telegraphs the move and easily avoids the attack.
She swings back hard, however the dog dodges her attack in turn.
His adrenaline overflowing, Jehuty wades into battle and bellows at his foes.
"UNDESIRABLES! KILL YOURSELVES OR I'LL F*CKIN' DO IT FOR YOU!"
The Fungal Soldier doesn't take kindly to Jehuty's threats and goes on the offensive.
leighzard exploits the opening in the enemy formation and goes for the weaker Artillery in the rear.
It quickly falls.
Bleach comes around for a second time, clawing and biting at the disorganised enemy ranks. He too, scores a kill.
With the remaining enemies completely in disarray, Corvus fires a bolt at the surviving Fungal Artillery.
Jehuty smirks and strikes back at the lone Fungal soldier, hitting it hard.
The Man-At-Mans attacks relentlessly and soon overwhelms the last foe, giving the Lobbyists another victory.
The team walks for hours, but they're making good time. According to their map, it wasn't long until they reached the MP Brigand camp. But before they can get there, they're ambushed by a hunting party.
Corvus gets the jump on the MP Brigands and fires a volley of bolts onto the battlefield.
Disoriented by Corvus' long range attack, Voxr and Bleach take advantage. Quickly closing the distance and dealing damage to the enemy group.
"Oww! Hurry up and hit them back, I feel like a skrub getting carried in a Bronze match!"
His Brigand comrade obliges and the enemy gunner fires at the Lobbyists indiscriminately.
The blast pushes the team back, and the MP Brigands get cocky.
"AHAHA NUBLETS!! U WULDNT LAST 10 MINUTES SKRUBLORDS. DO U EVN COMBAT TATICS?"
The Assassin follows up the trash talk with a powerful slash on Jehuty.
Jehuty retreats further, with the Assassin in close pursuit. It opens up a hole in their formation that Corvus is all too happy to exploit. She lines up her target and pulls the trigger.
Jehuty easily dispatches the Assassin and charges at the huge Brawler, swinging his Mace with all the strength he could muster.
"W-why is he still standing...? I couldn't trim t-the fat..."
Corvus reassures the disappointed Man-At-Arms.
"Ummm... there, there. Your catchphrase and battle style aren't... umm, that bad. There, there."
The battle rages on and in the end, leighzard lands the killing blow on the Brawler.
With the battle won, the Lobbyists consider resting but leighzard decides against it.
"If they catch wind of their scouting party being defeated, them might try and ambush us while we rest up. And I don't want to risk any of you getting hurt before we raid their camp. In this particular scenario, the safest option is to press forward with haste. Got it?"
"I don't know about this, lei-"
"This is the best course of action. Understand?"
Nodding meekly, Voxr falls in line with the rest of the group. As prepared for battle as they'll ever be, the Lobbyists finally encounter the MP Brigand camp. They come out into the open and engage the bastards directly.
