My most recent Inquisitor was an Elf, so she was pretty anti-chantry. And because of that, I was also pretty neutral on who became Divine for the longest time, it didn't matter to Lavellan.

Personally I really like Hardened Leliana. She's ruthless, but not corrupt or power hungry. It's still Leliana. But I guess on my next character I'll have to go for Softie Lely to see which one I prefer.

Vivienne. Cassandra isn't made for politics and Leliana is too coocoo to be given that much power.

Anyone but Vivienne. I like her as a character, but she'd be a perfect politician which is exactly why she's a horrible choice for the position. Vivienne cares about Vivienne and everyone else is an after thought if it's convenient.

Originally I was a Cassandra fan, and still am I guess, but I didn't harden Leliana on my latest play through and her vision of the Chantry was pretty moving.

Mother Giselle would've been a good fourth choice, if you didn't want any of the three becoming Divine.

I always make Leliana Divine and I think she is the best choice . She si ruthless wich is needed so nobody turn around and put a leash on my freeing the Mages . And I'm assured the chantry will change for good .

Romanced Cassandra was my divine for my main. I was considering Viv but I dont wanna give her to much power or else I would have felt like she just used me. I was going for a power couple type thing with cass.

I dont think any of them are good candidates. I also dont like the fact that you cant dissolve or destroy the chantry. So on both the chantry as a whole and choosing a divine is a double edged disappointment for me :(

My first playthrough, when Cassandra as divine came up, my initial (& authentic) response was: "You'd be perfect!" .... but I still ended up with Leliana as Divine, because as it turns out, Leliana's goals are much more similar to my own.

I think Cassandra is such a wonderful character. She's so fully fleshed--she's both tough and compassionate, believes in herself & questions herself, self-sufficient and a team player. She's the sort of person you hope might really exist in the world, but probably doesn't. I have no qualms about seeing her in a position of power & I'm not surprised she does a good job.

But between a good & conservative leader like Cassandra & a pros-and-cons sort of choice, like Leliana (double-hardened Leliana in particular), I'd still pick the one who shares my agenda. So, Leliana.

My favourite endings were Cas with allied templars, followed by Leli with conscripted mages. I like Viv as a character but not as divine. She is too ruthless/uncompromising and too hungry for power and control.

I like the *idea* of Viv as divine since mages were given no power in the Chantry and this legitimizes them as good god fearing andrastians.  But in practice every time I've gotten her (once with conscripted templars, once with conscripted mages) she has just been ruthless in shutting things down in a way I don't think is becoming of a mage who was just put into power.

Softened Leliana, to both questions. For three reasons:

-1) She opens the Chantry to all races (and maybe genders? I don't remember right now);

-2) I can't tolerate Viviennne's policy

-3) No-one can separate Cassandra and my Inquisitor.

Softened Leliana/Softened Leliana (allied with the mages)

I like her reforms, Cassandra is mostly status quo and I hate Vivienne

A softened Leliana was my preference and she was named Divine. She opens up the Chantry. she's not merely a reformer, she's openly accepting and treats everyone equally. That's how I played my Inquisitor - pro-mage freedom, just, merciful, alliances, using diplomacy a lot, and ultimately, not killing when it can be avoided. Leliana stands for these same freedoms and openness and she came back inspired and forgave herself. It's also like coming full circle for her to replace Justinia, since Dorothea basically saved her by accepting her as she was.

I got hardened Leliana the first time around but in the end I don't know. I didn't want Leliana going through it, so in what will be my canon playthrough I put Viviene, because it's not like I hate her and tbh, having a mage in that position makes it more like the Imperial Chantry, which may cause a backlash and maybe, just maybe (I know the chances of Bioware making this are close to nothing, but still) the Chantry will fall and burn, burn like Andraste.

And if anything, now all those clerics have to suffer Viv dropping the mic with each phrase that includes a darling and act like they like it. That idea is what really sold me on her position :D And why not? I'm the Herald of Andraste because you say so, not by choice, so now I'm going to abuse that power to force things on you guys that you don't like. It's this thing called karma Giselle.

First play through, Lelianna was made Divine, didn't want her to be but she was.

Second play through, I made Vivienne Divine, as I was playing a Mage who wanted circles.

Third play through.Vivienne was made Divine even though I did not back her.

Let's put it this way, 2 attempts at making Cassandra Divine and somehow it didn't happen. It's like if you don't choose outright, it just Random Number Generates the result.

Softened Leliana is my favorite by far. All the reasons previously stated I am all for (opens up Chantry to all races, uses diplomacy instead of murder to get policy done, etc.)

The number one reason I choose her though is that she decouples the Chantry from the mages. Religion and government policy do not mix. The Chantry should not have been making the overarching policy decisions regarding mages at all. Consider Dalish elves do not believe whatsoever in Andrastian faith but could possibly still be hunted as apostates by a Templar. Imposing your religious beliefs on people, sometimes to the death, is, let's say "not cool."

Mage policy should be dictated by a kingdom by kingdom basis. Ferelden, whose monarch gave the rebel mages a shot, would probably be the most forward thinking kingdom. The government sets a mage policy, has schools to house and train identified mages. No punishment for not attending. Money provided for the schools the same way Circle mages make their money (selling enchantments). Mages aren't hated from the moment their identified which was an unintended (sometimes intended) byproduct of Chantry teaching. I've thought about this too much.

I got softened Leliana as Divine.

I like Cassandra's ideas... but the Divine also needs to be politically savvy, which Cassandra... is really not all that great at. I like that Leliana is accepting to all, and opens the Chantry's doors to everyone. Even though I think it was just a bit too perfect. But Leliana has the training necessary, and is also good at the politics. She seemed the best choice over all.

I don't even let Vivienne get the idea :P if I even recruit her.
