Trying to get a main thread of fixes going for the PC version of Mass Effect 2. (If you have something that hasn't been added, please post, or PM)
(Thanks go out to : kznlol Who suggested the Notepad++ fix!)
(Thanks go out to : SpideyKnight for correct paths)
(Thanks go out to : syklonis01 for the depth of field fix! And thank you Kasumimi for the tip!)
Mouse Sensitivity Issues :
The mouse sensitivity by default seems to be set very high, with no way to turn it down in game. The steps below should help you fix the problem.
First you'll need to download and install Notepad++ (found here ( Click on : Download Notepad++ executable files ) ) Without that program, you'll only mess up your .ini files, which will result in the game no longer starting.
After the default installation of Notepad ++, find your Coalesced.ini file at the location : (NOTE : Make a BACKUP of that file in case you screw it up!!!!!)
- C:-->Program Files-->Mass Effect 2-->BioGame-->Config-->PC-->Cooked
- (C: -> games -> Mass effect 2 on vista and win7)
Using the top menu bar you can go to Search, and then Find (or simply press Ctrl+F anywhere in the document) to open up the search window. In the box next to "Find what :" paste in : MouseSensitivity
Press enter, and change the value to something like 0.4
Save the file, and try to start your game. If your game starts up, then you can simply edit that value until it suits your needs. If you game's .exe crashes, then you either were not editing it with the correct program, or changed the value of something that you were not supposed to. If that is the case, delete the bad file, and replace it with your clean backup copy.
Removing the Non-Skippable Intro Movies :
In order to disable the startup logo movies, simply navigate to your Movies folder located at :
- C:-->Program Files-->Mass Effect 2-->BioGame-->Movies
- (C: -> games -> Mass effect 2 on vista and win7)
- BWLogo.bik
- ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik
Rename them to :
- BWLogo.bik.old
- ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik.old
This will allow you to go straight to the 'Press Button To Continue' screen.
How To Recover Your Coalesced :
If you've messed up your Coalesced.ini file, the game will not start. You can grab a clean version of it from the second Mass Effect disc.
Insert the second disc into your drive, cancel or ignore all auto prompts that may pop up on your screen.
Open MyComputer, Right Click on the disk icon, and choose Explore.
Navigate to the data folder, and Double Click on the data01.rar
From there you can find it at : data01.rar-->BioGame-->Config-->PC-->Cooked
Either drag and drop the file out to a new directory, or extract the folder structure.
If you really mess it up I have posted a default ini file here : http://www.box.net/shared/ky2y2fm7f0
Problem With Super Dark Shadows : (This is a preference fix, and is not intended for everyone. To judge please see screen shot : g.imagehost.org/0926/dof.jpg )
As always make a backup of the file you are manipulating, and please use Notepad++
Find your GamerSettings.ini file at
C: --> Users --> yourname --> Documents --> BioWare --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config
or
C: --> Documents and Settings --> yourname --> My Documents --> BioWare --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config
Under the header of : [systemsettings]
Add in the value : DepthOfField=False
So now it should look something like :
- [SystemSettings]
- Resolution=_1920x1200
- ResX=1920
- ResY=1200
- DisableAudio=False
- QualityBloom=True
- FilmGrain=False
- MotionBlur=False
- DynamicShadows=True
- LightEnvironmentShadows=True
- MaxCharacterCinematicLightingPasses=3
- EnableLightEnvSHLights=True
- MaxAnisotropy=4
- BorderlessWindow=False
- Fullscreen=True
- DepthOfField=False
Possible Resolution Configuration For Non Default Values : ( Note : This needs testing. I can get it to work on my machine to some extent, but it seems hit and miss with others)
You will need to use Notepad++ to open - edit, and save the document.
PLEASE make a backup of the document before you start editing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find the file : GamerSettings.ini
Mine is located in MyDocuments --> Bioware --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config
Open it up, and you should see a few lines like :
[SystemSettings]
Resolution=_????x????
ResX=????
ResY=????[/list](Where ??? is a value)
Change it so that it looks like :
[SystemSettings]
Resolution=_640x480
ResX=640
ResY=480
[/list]Save, and start the game.
Feedback wanted.
Solution for Lag / Sound Issues : *Not Verified as of Yet*
Work in progress. There are a few values I'm looking at, but it seems like due to the individual nature of this issue, an actual patch will have to be administered.
