Found any way to lower the resolution to 640 x 480?

You will need to use Notepad++  to open - edit, and save the document.

PLEASE make a backup of the document before you start editing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find the file : GamerSettings.ini

Mine is located in    MyDocuments --> Bioware --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config

Open it up, and you should see a few lines like :

  • [SystemSettings]
  • Resolution=_????x????
  • ResX=????
  • ResY=????
(Where ??? is a value)

Change it so that it looks like :

  • [SystemSettings]
  • Resolution=_640x480
  • ResX=640
  • ResY=480
Save, and start the game.

Please tell me if this works.

My cursor does not want to stay in-game on my dual monitor set up. If I move the cursor far enough to the left, it just goes out of the game and causes me to minimize when I click. Is there maybe a config file somewhere I can edit and keep it from going outside the game?

You can disable the mouse smoothing by changing bEnableMouseSmoothing=true to false, as long as you remove a character from another entry so the character count of the file stays the same. I deleted one of the extra 0's from doubleclicktime right above that and the game loads without crashing.

Turning mouse smoothing off feels so much better. Normal like it should.

Thanks for this advice.  It makes my mouse smoother in most of the in-game menus.

However, my mouse is stll very mushy inside the circuit board mini-game, making the mini-game unplayable.  There is no precision at all to where the mouse stops--it seems to have momentum, always slipping off the dot I'm trying to select.

Is there any known fix for this?

I had this very same problem once... I clicked outside of the game during the EA network login screen. However after maximizing again, it never happened again. Try going into the configuration editor before you start the game, and make sure that your screen is set to fullscreen instead of Default. Get back to me with results.

I've been looking into turning VSync off to fix any mouse accel / lag problems, however it seems that in those little mini games things have a mind of their own. I'm still looking into it!

If you're using an nVidia card, try setting Max Prerendered frames to 1 or 0 in the NV control panel.

I checked and it's definitely set to Full Screen.  I tried switching it back to Default and then back to Full screen and it still does it :(

One other thing that I just noticed, when the game first starts and you are at the menu to Resume etc, the mouse is fine and works inside the game only.  As soon as I click any menu items or anything it allows the mouse to leave the game once more.  I can't really think of how this may connect with anything but it's something to think about I guess lol.

I doubt this will fix your problem but it's worth a try. Make sure (using the menu in game) that you have a key bound to the function set of Use / Cover / Storm. Because the game seems to be harshly ported over from the console version (which is highly depressing) it will show the default key settings to accomplish actions EVEN IF you've changed the bindings. You just have to ignore the regular messages and use your new keys... If you're use key is actually set to Spacebar, then I'm really at a loss.

Could you give me some more info on how you purchased the game? Digital download, or retail copy?

While your other monitor is one, by chance when you mouse over to your left (quickly, without clicking anywhere) do you actually see the mouse pointer smoothly glide over to your next screen, or do you see it sort of get stuck half way in between some invisible boarder?

It just glides right over.  It transitions from the in game cursor to the windows cursor very smoothly.

There's an interaction problem where a lot of us can't get that blue square when we're close enough to a usable/interactive object. Movement and control is fine but that blue square doesn't show up for interaction. Some of us can't even get through the first mission after we get waken up in the lab by Miranda. There are work-arounds but they get so tedious! Any fix on that? It'd be really helpful. Thanks. :)

Seeing as how you all seam to know a thing or two, here is my issue:

ME2, W7, Nvidia 250.

When I pause (left shift) and change weapons or move the cursor around the game goes black for about 2 seconds and crashes. It has happened 5 times so far. The only times you need pause is during combat so I have to start combat all over again. This is proving to be a very annoying buy.

First: tyvm for the help GarbageDonkey.

To answer your question:  It is a retail copy ( NOT used ) purchased from Gamestop and shiped to me on the release date, a gift from my gf.

Before i asked for your help,
I tried changing the key configuration through game options and still had same results. the default setting for the use/ is (space) i added a secondary key for the same action (tab) with no change,  nothing happens when either key is pressed.

what 7TH pheonix described is what i am experiancing, only being a first time player to ME/ME2 had no idea that the recticle was suppose to be blue.
( mine is red, not blue) but doesn't change when i get close to the object.
which is from what she said suppose to happen?

Okay so mine doesnt change from red to blue, and is there fore not activated for me to get the gun Image IPB.
Ty for the insite 7th Pheonix. and again ty for the help GarbageDonkey

RE: So how do i fix it ? other than this one problem, my game seems to be working. But if i cant interact with objects i cant play or get out of the first room !!!
Would a full reinstall work with out losing my 1 time use codes that i alrdy used , had no trouble with those and wouldnt want to lose my extra features or items if i reinstall?
Pls Advise and ty in advance!

The real cause for the odd mouse acceleration in the 3D part of the game (not sure about the 2D UI stuff as I never had a problem there) is the bUseMouseDampening=true command in the ini.

If you change that to =false using the same method to disable mousesmoothing to get the game to load without crashing. It will feel like a totally different and normal PC game.

Warning: You'll likely have to lower the MouseSensitivity even more if you do this however. I'd suggest starting from 0.1 or 0.2 and going from there. I'm currently using 0.12 and everything feels "right" with dampening disabled - well as good as it can get for me personally!

Around line 5098 there are some things regarding powers for each class, has anyone figured out if it's possible to have these make any change in the game?

I'd like my Vanguard to have Throw, but I tried replacing CryoAmmo and nothing happened.

There's still some strange negative acceleration happening. When you move your mouse quickly, the camera / view actually turns slower or stops sooner than you would expect. Conversely when you move it slowly it seems to spin faster which makes no sense at all.

Anyone know how to fix that crap?

THIS!!!

forcing vsync off in your video card drivers and turning mouse smoothing off help alot but theres still some messed up mouse acceleration stuff happening in mass effect 2

i think you can even see the negative accel crap in the ini files along with all the other xbox stuff

EDIT: THIS AND THE OTHER MOUSE ADJUSTMENTS HAVE WORKED BEAUTIFULLY FOR ME

It sounds like you're just not supposed to use it at that point.  Generally, a red square means that you can't use it yet.  If you can use it, the square starts off as grey and turns blue when you approach, indicating it's the active item you're trying to use.
