Also, what's up with them disabling double clicking with the mouse in the menus?! To load a game, you gotta click on a game, then click the select button...ME1 had all this stuff working, it kinda sucks that ME2 didn't just copy the interface keys and commands...

That is apparently a flaw in the hardware (the GPU), it is known as a vertex (or geometry) shader error. The flaw is apparently present in later versions of the 7900 GPUs, nVidia knows about the flaw and since that GPU series is no longer being manufactured it will never be fixed. It is not even possible to compensate for that flaw by making changes in the driver.deecup wrote...
I am having an issue where I get strange artifacts coming off the character models i.e. a rectangle jutting off from shepards body. It doesn't always happy ie. the same part wont have the same glitch when played through again.
The error is mostly harmless if unsightly. It is apparently caused by an overheating problem in the area of the chip that contains the vertex shader hardware. A more efficient cooler (even water cooling) might eliminate the problem but at this time a better choice is to simply replace the videocard with something newer.
I had a 7900GTO and, I agree, that GPU is very good and performs well most of the time. But I replaced mine with a 9800GTX which is very good and replaced that with a GTX275 which is orders of magnitude better.

The real cause for the odd mouse acceleration in the 3D part of the game (not sure about the 2D UI stuff as I never had a problem there) is the bUseMouseDampening=true command in the ini.
If you change that to =false using the same method to disable mousesmoothing to get the game to load without crashing. It will feel like a totally different and normal PC game.
Warning: You'll likely have to lower the MouseSensitivity even more if you do this however. I'd suggest starting from 0.1 or 0.2 and going from there. I'm currently using 0.12 and everything feels "right" with dampening disabled - well as good as it can get for me personally!
THIS GUYS ONTO SOMETHING HERE
THIS HAS WORKED COMPLETELY TO FIX THE MOUSE PROBLEMS
turning mouse damping off, turning vsync off, turning mouse smoothing off , modifying your sensitivity
this makes for a VERY good feeling mouse in mass effect 2 now! its finally fully playable!
HOW could bioware have left this basic mouse config stuff out of the game? are they all console newbies?

The way it works is that you bind a keyboard key to a game command. ME2 not only does not have a key-binding for weapons it also no longer has the old game command which is "switchtoweapon". So even if you could change or add key-bindings (you can) there is no game command to bind the key to.Skywarpgold wrote...
So here's a question for you guys....anyone figured out how to add key-bindings? I hate that they took out the function key usage for weapons! And I miss hitting "J" to go right to the journal.
There might be a new game command that does the same thing as in ME, but I've looked through the executable and haven't found anything relevant.
If your player had a full set of weapons you could use a macro that cycled through the weapons (using "next weapon") but even then it couldn't be depended on to work flawlessly.

gah, that stinks...you'd think they would've kept the same game commands they had in ME. Oh well.zBobG wrote...

Yeah, I don't think the macro would work either, because I noticed the mousewheel doesn't function the same with the next/previous weapon thing as it did in the first game either: in ME1, if I spun the wheel twice, it would do two quick next weapon commands, but in ME2, as soon as you start spinning the wheel, the command gets locked until the change weapon animation finishes...rather cumbersome. Again, oh well...

at that point in the game (the very beggining) your supposed to use the locker but a lot of us are getting a red box which i think means were not allowed to use it. total confusion here and a good deal aggrivated.

Unfortunately, it's still not perfect. I had only tested the mouse in combat before. A major side effect of turning off dampening is that mouse movement in the conversational wheel is incredibly touchy resulting in possibly selecting something you did not want to. I'm looking for a way to fix that too but am at a loss, anyone else have any ideas?
As of right now it seems to be a trade-off whether you want regular camera and shooting mouse control or normal convo sensitivity. Bummer.

I might have a possible solution, but it's nowhere near perfect.
I'm going to assume you have a newer model mouse, like a Razer something with on the fly sensitivity or changeable DPI.
If you change your sensitivity in windows, the mouse pointer becomes slower, so compensate by changing the MouseSensitivity to a higher value, say, if you have 0.2, change it to 0.5 or something. You'll have to experiment a bit.

[SFXGame.BioSFHandler_PCConversation]
AccumulationDivisor=100.0f
You want to increase this to ~600.0f, more or less, whatever you think is best. This will slow down and smooth out the jittery mouse in the conversational wheel when bUseMouseDampening is disabled.
So unless any other issues pop up, you need to edit these 4 separate lines of the Coalesced.ini to fix the mouse input:
bEnableMouseSmoothing - change to false
bUseMouseDampening - change to false
MouseSensitivity - use a lower value when disabling dampening
AccumulationDivisor - use a higher value when disabling dampening

There aren't a lot of keys with 5 character names and it seems adding characters somewhere else doesn't work for this one.
Maybe it has to be the same bracket or something, idk.
Let us know if you figure it out.
EDIT: I tried changing the scrollback value to 512 to give me an extra character, and that opened up the possiblity for six character keys, tried kp_end and Insert and both worked without crashing but neither opened any console ingame.

I have had no other problems except my game is beginning to freeze and crash while in combat.....It happens intermitantly and is quite annoying especially when your nearing the end of a boss fight and it crashes...

Can anyone import the entire Mass Effect one interface into this horribly awkward one Bioware obviously concocted for consoles? Sad thing is... I'm not even being sarcastic

dont forget you need to force vsync off this causes mouse lag in all fps games on lcd monitors
is the convo wheel the only thing accumulation divisor changes? the good thing about turning the in game sens down is you can still keep a high mouse sens for 2d mouse in game and planet scanning

Is there any way you can tweak the game to make a skip dialog line button separate from dialog option selection? I hate skipping forward only to make a line selection I can't even see. I hate waiting for the actors to finish their lines.

Totally worthless.
So far I've tried swapping the parts in lines 2208 - 2659 concerning the vanguard with Throw from the sentinel, with no result. I've also tried swapping lines between 5092 - 5134 concerning the vanguard to replace ammo with throw, also with no results.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the only thing the accumulation divisor affects. Also, I always keep vsync w / triple buffering on in any game I can because my computer is finally decent and I absolutely hate screen tearing. I've never experienced any significant mouse lag, but then that's what triple buffering is for.

So far I'm really lovin the game. Eye candy everywhere! and it has something ME 1 didn't have. NICE LONG STORY! filled with content that isn't reused a lot like in the first one (like those side mission bases that were almost identical and all underground). I hope Bioware keeps feeding us with content. and by content i mean by LARGE expansions with all kinds of goodies
