Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the only thing the accumulation divisor affects. Also, I always keep vsync w / triple buffering on in any game I can because my computer is finally decent and I absolutely hate screen tearing. I've never experienced any significant mouse lag, but then that's what triple buffering is for.

trust the experience of a very old pro fps player, any vsync causes significant loss of mouse responsivity

and i hate screen tearing too, and i get it terribly, but you can only ignore it

but thats the price you have to pay if you want to use nice 24" lcd monitors but still play fps games with a good amount of mouse responsivity and be competitive online

But this game isn't a competitive online shooter. It's a slower paced cinematic single player RPG. You should read up on the benefits of triple buffering sometime too, maybe even try it out, you'd be surprised: http://www.anandtech...doc.aspx?i=3591

I was always a vsync off guy until I got my new computer and realized I could turn features on like that without any adverse effects. Now it's the one thing I always make sure is on, but every game is different and some like Dead Space for example really do lag like crazy with vsync. I have had zero problems in Mass Effect 2 however so I wouldn't tell anyone to force it off, but I would suggest they give it a try if they are still having mouse input issues. Not trying to get into a nerd war over vsync, just saying people should go with what works best for them.

Every setup is different. My LCD probably has more input lag in milliseconds than yours for example. It's an old Dell IPS, maybe that's why it's not an issue for me.

good points ill have a look into it more in me2 now that we got the important mouse stuffed fixed anyway. but vsync is usually always the first culprit

edit: tried vsync triple buffered, laggy mouse.... ;)

Can anyone import the entire Mass Effect one interface into this horribly awkward one Bioware obviously concocted for consoles? Sad thing is... I'm not even being sarcastic :(

Has anyone figured out a way to replace Tilde as the console key?

Though tilde is bound for console in the file, it doesn't work in game. There must be some other entry locking access to the console.

Has anyone experienced the error message that says something like "sorry, but the game has encountered a problem and will now close" (then Microsoft supposedly searches for a a fix and says will notify if one is found).

This started happening to me at the outpost where the VI has gone nuts and killed everyone -- it specifically happens when I start using the 4 computers to "reposition the reflective armor."

I have the latest drivers for my Nvidia geforce GTX 285, and I'm running ME2 on Windows Vista SP1, digital collectors edition.

Any thoughts on resolving?  Thanks for any and all assistance!

EDIT: THIS IS NOT WORKING

mouse damping has returned

better thread for editing your coalesced here

might not work 100% with changing mouse sensitivity tho im uncertain mouse feels good but

http://social.biowar...06/index/834703

you enter gamersettings.ini instead, it overwrites coalesced, removing character count limitations on your mouse settings etc, it works

hello, im not sure if my question belongs here or not and im not sure if my problem is tech related or game related,

Basically my game (ME2) seems to be working fine, but in the first area at the locker im suppose to get a gun , (when i press "space" nothing happens ? and its suppose to activate the locker.) is it a bug or am i missing something that i was suppose to do ?  another step ? i have read manuals (not very clear)  and forums and tech forums and nothing like this is listed . Pls advise first time player , Ty in advance Posted Image

On my computer all I have to do is press Esc to bring up the menu screen, the "Mission Computer".  Then, Esc out of it back into the game and immediately press space while looking at the square.  Anytime there is a recalcitrant square just do this move.  To the menu and back and quickly press space.

Hope this works for you :)

There's an interaction problem where
a lot of us can't get that blue square when we're close enough to a
usable/interactive object. Movement and control is fine but that blue
square doesn't show up for interaction. Some of us can't even get
through the first mission after we get waken up in the lab by Miranda.
There are work-arounds but they get so tedious! Any fix on that? It'd
be really helpful. Thanks. :)

Found any way to lower the resolution to 640 x 480?

You will need to use Notepad++  to open - edit, and save the document.

PLEASE make a backup of the document before you start editing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find the file : GamerSettings.ini

Mine is located in    MyDocuments --> Bioware --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config

Open it up, and you should see a few lines like :

  • [SystemSettings]
  • Resolution=_????x????
  • ResX=????
  • ResY=????
(Where ??? is a value)

Change it so that it looks like :

  • [SystemSettings]
  • Resolution=_640x480
  • ResX=640
  • ResY=480
Save, and start the game.

Please tell me if this works.

Good news, this appears to work, although the game still claims it's 800x600.  At least the FPS improves, the quality declines subtly, and the small text becomes nearly unreadable.  But Bioware did a great job at making this game look incredible even at the lower resolutions, and I already beat the game so I know what happens.  It even fixes the spacebar issue.  I tried this once before but didn't seem to work then.  I'm using it now with Vsync off.

Editing coalesced.ini with notepad++ still crashes the game for me. Can anyone help me get it working?

Basically, you have to watch your character count.

Open an unedited coalesced.ini and note the file sizes (in bytes?) listed at the bottom/status bar of notepad++ (sorry, not on windows at the moment) It has to be the same when you're finished editing and saved the file.

When you edit or change a line/setting in the ini file, you should add or subtract a character with it.

Ex.
blah = true
blah2=1.2500

To change blah's setting to false, we need to take one character out from somewhere (blah2 has an extra zero that we could delete):
blah=false
blah2=1.250

Then the game should run fine.

Yes, this works for me too. There also now shows up a 640x480 option in the Config bit of the startup menu outside of the game.

THis works for me too, but it is annoying. Also, for me, I have the same object recognition problem sometimes in combat. It doesnt recognize enemies (so I cant aim powers at them). Pressing esc and going back does not fix this.

Also, when I try to fix the mouse sensitivity, I cannot save the coalesced file. It just gives me this odd message that says "Please check whether if this message is opened in another program." I don't have it opened anywhere else.

Double Post.

But anyways, I figured out the problem I mentioned in the thread above. I just had to start notepad++ as an administrator. Vista is bad.

I'll just put this in here (yeah, I've seen it mentioned in the OP, but thought maybe my information would help with solving the problem):

Sound stutters. Every now and then - especially during conversations - the game will freeze for a second or two with sound stuttering. I've looked it up on EA support, they have this problem listed, they have a solution, but it's exclusively for XP (as there it's caused by XP-specific settings). Not much help if you're running Vista, like I am. Now, I had the same issue in ME1, but it disappeared after I cleared the Temp folder and defragged the disk. In ME2, the same regimen doesn't help. And it happens way too often not to pay attention to it - something like 70-80% of conversation lines stutter.

I originally thought it might be something about the game loading all the visuals and freezing because of that, but there is absolutely no difference in performance between min and max settings on my PC... And actually, setting them to max seems to have made the situation a little bit better. In fact, outside conversations, it freezes very rarely, i.e. every 2 minutes or so.

EDIT: I found some old thread on the net where someone managed to fix this problem in ME1 by disabling page file in Windows. It doesn't work for ME2.

Well, this thread seems to be getting a fair bit of attention, and everyone here appears pretty knowledgable about how the files and stuff work. Well, here's my problem, quoted from an earlier topic.

ChaoticBroth wrote...

Now, I don't know what's causing
this, but my game crashes whenever I fight certain creatures. First and
foremost, the Praetorians. When they get too close and fire their beam,
it crashes. I said in an earlier thread that I diverted this by
strafing around and keeping away from it.

Now, there's also another object that causes a similar crash. It's somewhat spoiler-related, so don't read below if you want to.

It's
the Reaper Core on board the Derelict Reaper. I can clear the Husks out
just fine, but when the core's shielding goes up, I crash, the music
loops, and it's a generic white screen. I don't see any way I'm able to
pass this, sadly enough. (According to another user, it's an error pertaining to lightning effects, but I think my character's proximity has something to do with it.)
Here are my specs:

OS: Vista
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU    Q6600  @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 6142MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Display Memory: 3820 MB

Well, that's all the info I got from DxDiag that looked useful.

If anyone is able to help, you'll have my deepest gratitude.

I'm not a programmer, but was wondering if the coalesced.ini file is supposed to stay the same throughout the game? Am concerned about this, in case I have to restore the original file later in the game.

I get moments where the screen just freezes or lags very badly and I can't do anything. Doesn't happen all the time, just at random. Sometime in combat, sometimes when I just standing around, sometimes indoors, sometimes outdoors. I have an nVidia GeForce GTX 260. There are not a lot of ingame options for adjusting your video settings so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on adjustments to make.

How much of a increass in FPS are you getting with that lower res?

Does anyone know how/if we can shift more of the work to the GPU in the config file? I swear I did this with ME 1 and worked great.... cant remember how sadly.

Ok, I verified the issue for my end on two different systems. Installing the game from 2 separate DVD drives (i.e. one DVD in each drive) will cause the game to not load.
