since everyone here seems to be pretty knowledgable I'll post my problem here.

I have played through ME1 with DLCs no problem multiple times, I buy and install ME2 and various DLCs and play through it a couple times, now here's where things get interesting, when I decided that I wanted to go back and play ME1 to get a level 60 character to import I find that my ME1 DLCs are not showing up in game yet when I go to the ME1 DLC folder they are right there fully installed. Any suggestions?

OP: Windows Vista 64-bit
graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS
RAM: 4GB
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz & 2.27GHz
System Type: Laptop (just in case it matters)

Thanks this thread was very helpful.

Does anyone know how to change the FOV? The Mass Effect 1 FOV was okay but this is just getting me sick. I hate how low they have made it. Why in the world would they do that?

Well, this thread seems to be
getting a fair bit of attention, and everyone here appears pretty
knowledgable about how the files and stuff work. Well, here's my
problem, quoted from an earlier topic.

ChaoticBroth wrote...

Now, I don't know what's causing
this, but my game crashes whenever I fight certain creatures. First and
foremost, the Praetorians. When they get too close and fire their beam,
it crashes. I said in an earlier thread that I diverted this by
strafing around and keeping away from it.

Now, there's also another object that causes a similar crash. It's somewhat spoiler-related, so don't read below if you want to.

It's
the Reaper Core on board the Derelict Reaper. I can clear the Husks out
just fine, but when the core's shielding goes up, I crash, the music
loops, and it's a generic white screen. I don't see any way I'm able to
pass
this, sadly enough. (According to another user, it's an error
pertaining to lightning effects, but I think my character's proximity
has something to do with it.)
Here are my specs:

OS: Vista
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU    Q6600  @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 6142MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Display Memory: 3820 MB

Well, that's all the info I got from DxDiag that looked useful.

If anyone is able to help, you'll have my deepest gratitude.

For Chaos, try using Windowed mode, I'm getting people who've said it helps.

For OP:
[POSSIBLE SPOILERS] I suggest you add using Windowed mode to help alleviate the problem people are having with ME2's electrical effects as seen on Praetorians crash, Reaper Core crash, and the Jarrahe Station crash. [SPOILERS END HERE]

Edit:

P.S.
Can the skip intros thing be applied to the extremely long Normandy's destruction cutscene? and if so, which files are the ones? Thanks.

I'm playing in windowed borderless and I have the same crash issues as Chaos when fighting Praetorians. It's a complete PITA to try not to look at it when it's firing or about to fire it's blue beam : (

OS: Vista 64 sp1

Processor: intel core2 quad q6700 @ 2.66

memory: 6gb

card: nvidia geforce 9500 GS

I must have the ****tiest error yet.
Either this is some option I have mistakenly turned off or it is a version of the mouse bug.

While in game, the mouse simply will not move. I can use it in cursor mode just fine, but not to move the view (in normal walking around mode) or the scanner in planet mode. I can fire so the responses are there but no reaction to movement.

Is this the "mouse sensitivity bug"? The game worked fine up until yesterday after the heretic station thing. Now it will not respond even after re-install. (Steam)
It is beginning to ****** me off whatever it is.

Is it worth trying the mouse-bug fix for this?

For anyone who thinks that the BLOOM is excessive in the game, here is a solution that I found on another forum:

Find the line if coalesced.ini that goes like:

Bloom_Scale=0.2

Remember to use the Coalesced Editor program (Google it), which automates for you the part about ensuring that the final file has the same size, and lower the value to something around:

Bloom_Scale=-0.8

Notice that it is a negative -0.8. This should lower the excessive bloom on surfaces that are not emitting light, but only reflecting it, while still keeping the bloom fairly strong and shiny on the sources of light themselves. You would really notice the difference (and perhaps be happy with it) in the cutscene when you [first] meet the Assassin that you're recruiting, as the sun is behind them in several shots and the silhouette effect gets messed up with the excessive bloom.

Finally, thank you, TC, for trying to collect all fixes in one thread. Great idea, and I hope that you keep revisiting the thread to update your Original Post with the excellent fixes that people research and find. For example, I think that the edit for UberPostProcessBlendPixelShader.usf works much better than turning the depth of field off (which lowers the overall graphics or artistic quality of the game). This would be great to update in the OP.

As a follow up to my post above, I thought that some people may want to see visual comparisons or before & after images of these Bloom Scale changes, so here is a public album showcasing the comparisons:

http://picasaweb.goo...ect2BloomScale#

Zoom in or click "Full Screen" view to see bigger versions for clearer
differences.

If you purchased ME2 over Steam you can still make the tweaks in the main post very easily. The game data for ME2 bought via steam is not cached though Steam interacts with it through a .ncf file archive. You'll find the default game data/folder structure within

C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2

Then the Coalesced.ini file is at

C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2\\BioGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked

from there just follow the original guide and the changes work just fine.

(Thanks for the nice mouse sens tweak guide btw)

 My game runs smoothly for about 5 minutes, then becomes very choppy and loses most of its fps.

+minimal background programs running
+resolution turned down
+no special visual effects enabled
+patched

Googling for mass effect 2 choppy fps has netted me very little.  Any help for dwindling fps out there?

Some of my sound files are messed up after installing the Cerberus DLC. I can still talk to Miranda, but not to Garrus or Joker... they just move their lips, but the sound is gone! :-( Has anyone else encountered this? How would I go about fixing it?

This is coming HELLA late, but I finally found which loading screen movie was causing problems with the collector attack on the Normandy if like me you didn't just stop at the EA Logo and Intro movie and actually removed all the loading movies as well.

The one you want to keep around is load_f13m. With that file still in there that section of the game will load as normal while still allowing you to skip all the other loading screens in the game.

See, this is why I'm glad I didn't ambandon the general forums in their entirety as I had once planned to do. I only posted here cause someone in general linked to this thread in another thread where upon it hit me I should probably go ahead and post this.

Glad it helped somebody else that was tired of dumping ALL the loading movies back in and then taking them back out when hitting that section of the game.

Finally got a new PC and I'm getting slowly used to playing ME2 on the PC instead of the console. I edited the mouse settings and it's better now but now I have a short lag every once in a while. During that time I can't move the mouse at all. Anybody have any idea what that is about? Before I changed anything I didn't have this problem but unfortunately the mouse was way too fast.

Uncapping Framerate

Since most of what I have read here and in other places didn't work for me, I thought I would post what finally did. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 5750 video card, 10.9 Catalysts, and Windows XP Pro.

There is one critical setting that has to be edited in Coalesced.ini under [SystemSettings]:

SmoothFrameRate=True     change this to     SmoothFrameRate=False

Note that this has to be edited in Coalesced.ini not added to GamerSettings.ini, it does absolutely nothing for me there, except waste my time trying to get it to work. This one change will uncap your framerate to your max refresh rate, if Vsync is enabled, which it is by default. To disable Vsync change

UseVsync=True     to     UseVsync=False

in Coalesced.ini, also under [SystemSettings]. Or you can force Vsync off in the CCC, which also works. This will uncap your framerate to as high as it can go. I would note, once again, that adding this line to GamerSettings.ini (or DefaultEngine.ini, for that matter) absolutely does not work for me.

I would also point out that there is a ForceFullVSync=True line under [Engine.VSync] and a bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE line under [Engine.GameEngine]. It doesn't hurt to set these lines equal to false, but it doesn't appear to be necessary.

If you want to uncap your framerate to a specific number, say 100, then instead of SmoothFrameRate=False change this line in [SystemSettings] instead:

MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62     to     MaxSmoothedFrameRate=100

if the number you want to uncap your framerate to is larger than your max refresh rate, then you will have to disable Vsync also.

I hope this helps somebody to not waste as much time as I did trying to get this to work. :pinched:

Problem With Super Dark Shadows :  (This is a preference fix, and is not intended for everyone. To judge please see screen shot : g.imagehost.org/0926/dof.jpg  )

As always make a backup of the file you are manipulating, and please use Notepad++

Find your GamerSettings.ini file at

C: --> Users --> yourname --> Documents --> BioWare --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config

or

C: --> Documents and Settings --> yourname --> My Documents --> BioWare --> Mass Effect 2 --> BIOGame --> Config

Under the header of : [systemsettings]

Add in the value :  DepthOfField=False

There's another way to fix the super dark shadows while still enjoying DoF.

Browse to your Mass Effect 2 Shaders folder:

Root Folder -> Engine --> Shaders

Open "UberPostProcessBlendPixelShader.usf" (with notepad++ or other similar program)

Find this:
#if ENABLE_FILMIC_RESPONSE
float3 x = max(0,InLinearColour-0.004);

Change it to this:
#if ENABLE_FILMIC_RESPONSE
float3 x = max(0,InLinearColour);

Interesting, thanks for posting that.

I'd guess that if we merely wanted to tone the effect down rather than removing it, one could also use values between -0.001 and -0.003?

Yes, I would think so. It would just be a matter of tweaking the value until you find one that suits you.

EDIT: I am potentially an idiot. I probably missed this somewhere, and I did edit the doubleclicktime by removing a 0... but I didn't know why. I watched a video on youtube of this thread's process in action and he explained that the file must have the amount of characters for it to work. FACEPALM. So everytime I changed "true" to "false" I removed a 0. It works now, thank you all.

Hate to bump this after so long.... but I'm at a complete loss. Got the game through steam, and I also followed this post too: http://social.biowar...84595/6#1932334 I have Windows 7.

I followed the instructions to a T as indicated in the OP and in pyide's post on page 3 (http://social.biowar...784595/3#821127). The only area that I differed in was instead of mouse sensitivity at 0.1 or 0.2 I put it at 0.15.... don't see how that would break the game. It won't start at all now, though the cursor does show that  "loading" animation for a few seconds when I try to open ME2.

Yes, I have the latest version of notepad++ and opened the program using notepad++. I saved a backup, which when pasted over the broken file, restored the game and allowed it to open properly.

I am beyond frustrated right now. Thanks for all the advice and tricks that have been posted so far though. Any suggestions?

Did you run the "coalesced.ini fixer"? Don't remember the exact name, but if the new file doesn't match the original file in total number of bytes, the game hangs indiscriminately.

thanks for the quick response, it's been resolved (edited my first post to reflect that). I did notice that whenever I replaced the buggy 'coalesced.ini' file with the original copy, it said the altered copy was a larger file. Didn't think nothing of it until a couple of minutes ago though.
