i have been experimenting a bit before starting my main campaign and i came to a good question
which is the best tree for solas? i really don't want much from the spirit Tree just  revive barrier the 2 skills that save his ass (one is the 50% less threatening something like that ) now if i want him offensive other than his special tree which one should i go for? it would be lovely if someone explains the Pros and cons of all trees
also for party i am gonna go 2 handed Dps elf (i know , it is weird with an elf but it is fakin awesome , did you guys see fenris?)
Cassandra tank
Varic dps
Solas offensive

For Solas, you should focus on his specialization tree, Rift Mage (only available after Haven, some respecing may be needed). Rift mage works best as a debilitator, though.

From Spirit, grab Barrier with upgrade, Guardian Spirit, Peaceful Aura, Dispel and any passives you might want, the rest won't be needed if you and your party are good enough.

You should have Winter's Grasp from the Winter Tree by default, take its upgrade, and from this tree, take Mana Surge, Winter Stillness and optionally Fade Step and its upgrade (though I made my Solas without it)

Additonally, you might wan to grab one or two offensive abilities from Inferno and Storm trees, like Flashfire, Immolate, Chain Lightning or Energy Barrage. The Flashpoint and Clean Burn passives from Inferno are definitely worth it.

Elf is actually the best race for two-handed dps, in my opinion.

Knockdown spells will set your inquisitor up to use mighty swing and coup de grace. You'll definitely want stonefist, but you probably will want at least one more knockdown. Either Veilstrike or fire mine, or possible both. Flashpoint is very strong because Varric will give you some free crit chance, and you will want to get more crit chance items because it will feed Varric's cooldowns.

Lightning is good for rift mages because Shocked + Weakness = Sleep. Other than that, max out the rift mage tree and grab every passive that lowers cooldowns (there's a cooldown passive in each of the elemental trees). Also look for spells with high mana costs and low cooldowns.

Rift mages have very very fast mana regen as long as they're hitting weakened foes, so cooldowns will be your main gating factor. I sometimes put Solas in rogue armor mid game just to get faster Flashpoint procs (internal cooldown is 10 s, so keep in mind that there are diminishing returns). The loss of +magic doesn't hurt him too much, because a lot of his stuff is crowd control and utility rather than pure damage. Considering that dispel instakills demons emerging from a rift... throw down a Flashpoint double dispel and he's single-handedly killing 50-100% of the demons in the second wave.

If you want the AI to revive you automatically, then limit the preferred abilities to only a small handful (with either low mana cost or long cooldowns) because revive has a cost of 85.  I have had the most success with Viv, letting her only use spirit blade, barrier, and revive.  She was awesome for my 2H templar run through.

If I was going for the same thing with Solas, I'd probably spec him for PotA,veilstrike, and barrier.  Give him firemine but use it manually.  You may find you can set more skills depending on the success of weakened and Solas's mana regen.

I feel like Solas is best used for pure support; buffing allies, debilitating enemies, and most importantly crowd control. Rift Mage is a very underwhelming specialization, but can be useful when the abilities are all upgraded to weaken enemies. Especially when combined with the passives of the tree, which further weaken the enemies.

I pretty much always build Solas for support and crowd control, with very few inclinations at offensive. My hotkey build goes like-

Immolate (upgraded), Winter's Grasp, Energy Barrage, Barrier, Pull of the Abyss (upgraded), Static Cage (upgraded), Dispel, Fade Step

Immolate, Barrier, and Dispel are definites. You always want him to be able to barrier up the party, get rid of negative status effects/dispel fade rifts, and have some sort of offensive. Immolate is amazing because it deals good initial damage on top of damage over time AND has a low mana cost AND has a low cooldown AND detonates combos. Much better than Stonefist, Solas' alternative damage dealing spell.

I don't ever use Revival because you shouldn't be dying lol. Things happen, but never accept dying as part of the plan.

Choosing between Pull of the Abyss or Veilstrike is totally up to you. They are both good for crowd control. Personally I like Pull of the Abyss more because it has a wide Area of Effect, thus able to weaken more enemies.

So with this build Solas can--

-Contribute to party damage with Immolate and Energy Barrage

-Freeze and chill enemies with Winter's Grasp, setting them up for detonator combos

-Crowd Control with Static Cage, Pull of the Abyss OR Veilstrike

-Protect the party with Barrier and Dispel

-Debuff enemies and Fade Rifts with Dispel

-Escape danger's way with Fade Step

Only other thing I can recommend is swap one of the abilities with Firestorm whenever facing bosses or Dragons.

Dying was so part of my 2H Templar plan (and the talents)  Talk about a dps boost and instant revival from Viv.  Just say'n (because I like to argue).   :)

Hmm, that's interesting. Not something I'd personally try, but to each their own.

If you use KineticGTR's Knight Enchanter 2.0 support build for Viv, revival is nearly instant.  Templar's passive "last sacrafice" gives your entire party a +50% damage boost and +100% health for 10 seconds.  Equip a 2H and go to town.  Super fun.

RM can dual nm with even bad gear if you combo your spells. It is by far the most fun and interesting mage spec.

1. Immolate

2. firemine+, clean burn, flash fire, chaotic focus

3. static cage+

4. pull of the abyss+

5. stonefist+ or chain lightning for sleep

6. barrier

7. vielstrike

8. some players like fadestep but i never had a need for it so you can use anything you like

Solas has so much mana that you can effectively spam your spells non stop as long as you time your damage dealers properly.

If you werent limited to 8 active skill slots then solas could probably solo the entire game with zero damage tank in front.
