I didn't connect with Crestwood and I liked the Western Approach.
What area didn't you connect with and which area did you like?

None really but, Western Approach and Forbidden Oasis remind me too much of Scarlet Gorge, an area I detest in another game, so, those two are the two I rush through. All of them are great terrain wise. Crestwood has the best quest chain I think.

My three favourites are Emprise du Lion, Hissing Wastes and Crestwood. They had somewhat engaging quest chains, were very well designed, beautiful to look at and had less filler than most of the other zones.
I hated Exalted Plains, Forbidden Oasis and Fallow Mire. In my opinion the game would do betther without them (and without Shards as well), more resources and time could be spent on the rest of the game.
The main problem with the zones in general for me was that they were not connected to the main story (except the first 4) and were kinda lifeless with very little meaningful content.

The Hissing Wastes are probably the most pointless zone in the game. As much as I appreciate atmosphere, this had too much empty space, making it a nightmare to travel through. I would rather have seen what's there placed in another zone, like the Approach, and cut the Wastes entirely.
Alternatively, I liked Crestwood, though I think the actual 'town' area should have had more to it - centering it in the map makes it seem less like a town and more like a settlement just starting out. Even ten years post-flood, I would expect there to be more TOWN to the town. But that's a small complaint in the scheme. The rest of the map has a stronghold to storm, a dragon in abandoned ruins, and even a dwarven thaig of some kind. It's got a bit of everything to it.
I'm kinda in between on the Fallow Mire. Good atmosphere, and it's got an interesting backstory to it, but I think more could have been more done with it, maybe something that could STOP THE PERSISTENT CORPSES DEAR MAKER.

I really liked Crestwood. The way the quests lead into each other made for a much more natural experience for me personally.
The Exalted Plains, Fallow Mire, and Forbidden Oasis were boring. Stormcoast was awful. Western Approach was alright.
After two playthroughs. I still haven't been to the Hissing Wastes or Emprise, so I guess I connect to those zones the least.
Are there other zones? I don't even remember.

Almost quit in the hinterlands... goddamn that fetch questing was tedious. Never thought I'd say that about a dragon age game. Hissing wastes had cool environment, I loved the dragons in all of them, but I wish they had some impact on the story.
Most fo what you do has zero impact on anything. You could kill every templar in the game, nobody notices.

Runner-ups are emprise du lion and crestwood because their main quests are really well done, and I like their atmospheres.
I'm fond of the feel of the hissing wastes, and find the hinterlands quite fitting for the early game (I like seeing the hostilities cease). Fallow mire is short enough that it almost felt like a dungeon rather than a map, so I like it too.
I struggle to get through the western approach until I unlock the venatori operation base, and the exalted plains were a real pain in my first playthrouh. I feel it lacks context. Now I know the story I find it fairly engaging but it felt so pointless and detached the first time round.
Storm coast is the only map I consistently don't 100%

I really liked the Storm Coast. The look of it, anyway. Superb stuff.
I haven't seen all of the areas though. Can't continue the game due to a bug. Stuck in Orlais since december.

Hissing Wastes is both my favourite and my least liked zone in the game.
From a gameplay perspective, it's boring and pointless. The central quest is reasonably interesting, but could be so much better (for example, you should feel like you're actually competing against the venatori, there needs to be time pressures to get there first, rather than being able to potter through at your own pace, you need to be able to fail, for them to get to the various parts of the key first if you take too long, it needs an actual rival - the venatori leader needs to be someone you can feel like you're personally competing against - and so on), and overall there just so much...nothing there, that it's not that fun to play in.
But from an aesthetic point of view, it's phenomonal. The emptiness, with just a few scattered ruins and and occasional camp, that makes it so boring to play makes it feel utterly believable as a barren desert. The views from the highpoints of the area are simply beautiful. The wildlife fits excellently. All in all, it's probably the most immersive zone in the game for me. It's just a pity that there isn't the content to match. Or maybe some of the immersion is due to the lack of content? That by not being asked to do something every five feet makes it feel more real?

Similar here, the storm coast shows some of the best realism features of the game -too bad they broke it making ineffective patches.

Liked:
Crestwood.
Emprise du Lion.
Hissing Wastes. Except that I wish the last location had a proper clue directing us to it.
Fallow Mire
Disliked:
Hinterlands
Exalted Plains
Meh:
Storm Coast. Starts out good, then becomes pointless
Western Approach
Emerald Graves
Never visited:
Oasis
I like the ones that have a strong central story

I liked most of them, I think. Emerald Graves is the prettiest, and I enjoyed the two desert zones for some reason as well, although I did think I would go bonkers trying to get all the shards in the Oasis at one point. Hissing Wastes I'm kind of mixed on; the atmosphere of using moonlight/night-time and of exploring ancient dwarven temply areas I loved, but the scale of it felt off compared to the other zones. That was the only zone where it seemed to make sense to use a horse, because of all the big spaces without anything happening in them or even anything to gather.
Exalted plains was probably my least favorite because the ruined forts and villages full of undead were just ugly, it wasn't the easiest to navigate in parts, and the general mishmash of Orlesian and Dalish and plains and forest didn't work that well for me. I think that it is supposed to be a bit of a mess though, being a region damaged by war.
I did think that they did a good job with the zone designs in the sense of making each one visually or aesthetically unique.

I love Crestwood and Western Approach, don't like Exalted Plains with all that rampages and totally hate the Oasis maze.
All other areas are OK: each one of them has pros and cons but I can say I liked them

I love Hissing Wastes.
I really don't like Exalted Plains. It's just so depressing. Well, it's supposed to be that way and in that BW really succeeded, with flying colors... though maybe little too well, for my taste. It just needs... something... to make it also interesting and entertaining, while being depressing... does that make sense?

I loved Hissing Wastes and The Western Approach most, but I had a hard time with the Fallow Mire. I don't mind corpses, but as Iron Bull said "I'm taking a hot bath after this" and I think I am BORED TO DEATH of the Hinterlands. By my 3rd playthrough I knew everything and I only enjoyed Redcliffe because it was fun comparing it to DAO and looking at the changes and talking with Connor or hearing the storyteller talk of my HOF's adventures and Alistair's toy obsession.

I have only largely 'completed':
-Hinterlands
-Storm Coast
-Fallow Mire
And visited:
-Crestwood
-Western Approach
-Forbidden Oasis
And I haven't been to:
-Exalted Plains
-Emerald Graves
-Emprise du Lion
-Hissing Wastes
My game is wonky and crashes so I've been REALLY slow playing. I also tried Nightmare, but got annoyed eventually and turned it down to speed up my gameplay.
~~~
-I enjoyed Hinterlands more than many. It is my safer looking 'home' that I go to when I want to just help out some people. Nothing wrong with that,right?
-Storm Coast looks AWESOME, so I can understand people at Bioware insisting it not be cut (as I think I saw mentioned by BW in a stream or something). However, it still very much lacks for good content, which is a shame, so I don't connect much with it.
-Fallow Mire is awesome. Until you get tired of endless undead. Then screw it.
-I've only messed around Crestwood and I know it gets dry after a questline but ugh I'm sick of rain by this point.
-I rather like Western Approach. However, I'll see what I think after I do Hissing Wastes.
-The Solasan ruins in Forbidden Oasis is a really cool concept and location, but the majority of the dig site sucks, and was designed by a terrible person. Yes, you are a terrible person, designer.
So... half-half so far?
I'm thinking I'll like the more green Orlesian zones more than most.
I think I would have liked if there were 2ish less zones and much more interesting quests in the remaining zones, instead of relying on fetch quest BS and collect X miniquests, etc.
