I've heard it mentioned in a few posts that Thedas has two moons: Luna and Satina.  I think this is confirmed in World of Thedas (and possibly Zazikel's codex?) making it canon, but since I can't track down the line, I'm not 100% sure.   The description of the moons and other planetary objects found here seems solid and fits well enough that it's hard to believe it was conjured out of thin air, but again- I can't find canon sources for any of it.  Certainly in game, there only seems to be one visible moon (Luna).

Building an explanation for primordial history seems to hinge quite a bit on getting the moon situation straight (plus the planetary bodies' potential relationship to the Forgotten Ones in the Void is leading in the extreme) but pulling from indirect and unverifiable sources is a recipe for theory disaster.   Can anyone point me to where this data might have come from?  Is it legit, or the equivalent of basing theory on fanfic?

The second moon is referenced as name-giver for some holiday, I think. And that's about it. Nobody ever talks about it and some codex entries pretty much contradict it entirely, Mythal creating the Moon or Andruil being "sister of the Moon" sound kinda strange in a world that has TWO moons. And it's not only the elven lore concerning their gods - whenever there is some mention of a moon in the codexes? It's always the Moon (or even the moon with no capital letter, so even claiming that Moon is actually the name of the bigger one is somewhat dubious). Even in entries somewhat dedicated to astronomy: http://dragonage.wik...es_on_the_Stars
Basically, Thedas supposedly has two moons, but you're hard pressed to find any place where games actually acknowledge this in any way. Perhaps there is some mention in the books, but frankly I doubt even that. In the end, I choose to largely ignore this bit of information to avoid huge inconsistency. However, answering your question - yes, it's cannon. Here is a codex entry confirming existance of moon Satina:

Though if I'm not mistaken, this here is the one and only in-game mention of the second moon. Perhaps it's even possible to try and headcanon around it by claiming Satina to be another name for the same moon, or something... Either way, your choice what to think about it, did my best to provide sources on the subject ;)
