I've been reading posts about rogues using two daggers on this forum and elsewhere and it seems to me that a standard abbreviation is "DW". But the ability tree name is Double Daggers. So why is it "DW" and not "DD"?
Why do everybody say "DW" instead of DD?

DW stands for dual wield, it's common parlance for using a weapon in each hand.

Dual Wield
Legacy of DA:O when you could use other weapons I guess

I'm still upset that the warrior didn't get the dual wielding ability back.

In previous games you could wield non-daggers. In DAO that means swords, maces, axes, anything that isn't a two-hander.
DAII is more restricted, but still has special axes and a DLC pair of cutlasses.
Plus DW is universal across multiple games and platforms, and has been for many years.
And as sillymonkboy says, DD already has an assigned definition.
I have hard enough time distringuishing between all the CCs in video games already. (Character Creator, Crowd Control, Custom Content...)

Why do people call Richards Dick? Some things just are.

To avoid confusion with certain female body parts, obviously
I wish there were a few more of this kind of DD in dragon age lol

Because DAO/DA2 have been out longer so I call it what it was called back then. Plus I want rogues to be able to hold swords and axes again so........

I, too, think more people should be discussing bra sizes.

It's disappointing that DAI rogues are limited to daggers. I much prefer maces and axes.
It's the cheapest way to make the daggers wanted and usefull as a weapon category. Sad but probably true.

Well it's actually exactly as I thought: the main reason is pure nostalgia and longing for good old times. It's been six years since 2009 and I'm too young and poorly educated to count how many years it's been since 1976 mentioned in one of the posts.
Stop clinging to the past, people!

Daggers were the most effective weapon for warriors with shields in DAO. So the restriction clearly isn't necessary. It's the cheapest way to make the daggers wanted and usefull as a weapon category. Sad but probably true.
I'd build weapons on a continuum: faster weapons do less damage, with slower weapons doing more. Ideally we'd also get variation in difficulty to learn, availability, and damage type.
Tabletop games are much better ar weapon design.

No, the reason is habit. That's what the people who have been playing this sort of game (style and setting, not platform) have been calling it since before you were born. So there's a huge established base that's used to saying/writing "DW", and will continue to do so. Using the term "DD" actually marks you as a n00b. ![]()
