It breaks my heart that this game isn't as good as DA:O

I can't even finish my second playthrough because it's so boring. The storyline - terrible, characters - subpar, quests - 70% are fetch, no cinematic dialogue.

This has to be the most disappointing Bioware game IMO.

This thread could use a more dramatic title -- say, "isn't nearly as good as DA:O "? I don't think DAI's as good as DA:O either, but I'd score them as something like 88 and 91, respectively. I'm pretty sure the OP's scoring DAI a good deal lower than I am.

I'm in the same booth. I'm taking a break from playing Inquisition (I didn't even finish my second playthrough) and playing Skyrim instead. With so much freedom I have in Skyrim makes it all the better.

I'm planning on playing Origins again and DA2. Inquisition is the type of game that you can only play once or maybe twice.

I disagree with you OP on the characrters, I honestly think this cast of companions is one of BW's very best and one of 3 things the game has done better than its predecessors (the other ones are romances and graphics, lol).

All in all DAI did not meet my expections. Which is an understatement. Honestly it has been the biggest gaming disappointment for me ever since I started playing video games. The worst thing was the completely false advertisement, false promises and downright lies which just showed me to never again trust even a pretty solid company I took BioWare for.

For scores, I would go like 8.9/10 for DAO (5/10 DAO:A), 7/10 DA2 (I liked the game tho, the combat and its tactical aspect for example was superior to DAO, but let's be honest, the game lacked in several other aspects way too much), 6/10 DAI.

6/10 is still slightly above average, but that is the nicest thing I can say about the game as a whole.

I think the companions are the high point as well. A lot of other things, not so much.

I do sometimes wonder when reading these forums if I was the only person rather disappointed when DA:O failed to live up to BG2....

I guess I was fortunate for playing BG2 later. I was coming off of Kotor, NWN, JE. To me, DAO continued in that tradition pretty well.

Oh, Origins is a very good game no doubt, and one that upheld Bioware's traditions well, but at the same time, it never quite lived up to my hopes and expectations given it was positioned as a spiritual sucessor to BG2. But then, given that BG2 only has one serious rival for greatest game ever for me (PS:T of course), I suppose anything would compare somewhat poorly compared to it.

I also wonder if the fact that DA:O wasn't, for me, the pinacle of Bioware RPGs, makes me far more accepting of the changes made in DA2 and DA:I compared to many on here. I do consider them to be weaker than Origins, but not massively so and I enjoy both of them.

Oh, I wouldn't use any strong language like "pinnacle". It was just a good successor to those games I already knew and liked. Not playing BG2 might've been a blessing in disguise then.. maybe I wouldn't have liked DAO as much.

I don't know what the pinnacle of RPGs is. It's not even my favorite genre. so I'm not one to judge. I just like choices and consequences, no matter the genre.

We have like a million threads complaining about this now.... It is not like DAO and the next game most likely won't be either.

I know, what happened to our DA?

I do like the companions and there quests though - Varrics just loved that one.

Too bad, I enjoyed it. There could be more cut-scenes but I am not unhappy with the amount of cutscenes at the moment at all. I'd like some more one-on-one cutscenes with the campanions at Skyhold/Haven though. I enjoyed the combat and the people that rate DA:2 higher as DA:I make me giggle. I realise this is controversial but I am so over DA:O, I played it three times through. DA:2 I have played 6 times through. DA:O is just really tedious imo.

So yes; DA:O 6/10, DA:2 7.5/10, DA:I 8.5/10

Anyone who's read my thread or any of my posts might be surprised to hear that I was a fervent Dragon Age: Inquisition supporter ... before the game came out.

I really believed, based on what BioWare were saying and the footage they were showing, that they were making a bigger, better, more polished version of Dragon Age: Origins. And since they had something to prove after the ME3 ending blacklash, I put my faith in them and defended them at every turn.

I even defended the supposedly "weak" story when the reviews started to trickle in, saying that a "weak story by BioWare's standards is still ten times better than a strong story by any other company".

And I did like the game a lot for a while!

Then, as my awe over the super-snazzy graphics began to wear off, an unfathomable boredom started to set it, and it dawned on me, slowly but surely, that there really was nothing interesting to do and no roleplaying to be had in any of the open-world environments; and I realized that the combat wasn't tricky because I hadn't learned it yet, but because it wasn't very good.

To be fair to BioWare, they've released a few patches that have improved combat, and it's much better than it was; but it still lacks customizable tactics and an auto-attack option, which should never be removed from a Dragon Age game, IMO. At least not without telling the fans first.

I kind feel the same, I made a lot of wardens and Hawkes but with DA:I I could only do 3 Inquisitors. I get to the end and it is so boring I give up.

I think it was a mistake to unlock things with power, the main quest should be just that, a main quest like the previews games.

Not nearly as good yes. Origins still takes the top spot for me <3

Edit: Since peeps mention DA2... I've completed it several times, enjoyed every run, besides the copy/paste areas and hordes of bandits.

Compared to DA2 it's a MASSIVE improvement and that's all that matters.

Technically maybe, but I found playing DA2 immensely more enjoyable than DAI. One run through DAI was a struggle against frustration and boredom, whereas I have five enjoyable runs through DA2, despite it's admitted faults. I'm more likely to play DA2 a sixth time than I am to attempt DAI a second.

Disagree with the OP. Inquisition is a much better game than Origins. I can understand people who prefer the gameplay of Origins, because that's personal preference and Inquisition is missing a few key features Origins had, but I wonder if we played the same game when they praise the plot/characters.

Also disagree, I like inquisition very much, maybe more than origins.

I like the miniquests, open world and being able to explore huge spaces,

instead of being stuck to smaller spaces.

I like the action combat much more in inquisition,

just hate the action camera.

My number one grip with this game is that the camera auto-zooms out whenever you unsheath weapons,

and the fact the camera is so far away from the character (min zoom should be able to be closer, or at least stop zooming out automatically).

Other than that, I like inquisition at least as much as origins,

regarding characters and story (even if inquisitions ending seems a bit abrupt).

This is why I'm glad I'm a pessimist.

"Pessimism is just a higher form of optimism.  Go through life expecting nothing, and you'll always be pleasantly surprised."

I was expecting DAI to be terrible, which it isn't.  It's not a good cRPG, but at least it's a decent action/adventure title.  I honestly hope BW takes what's good in DAI and improves on it in DA4 instead of trying to reinvent everything like they keep doing with this series.  Here's to hoping for the best with "ME:Next."

I did the same thing heathen. I really wasn't expecting much, so I was actually pleasantly surprised. I'm at the point right now where the game has lost all its appeal even in multiplayer so im impatiently waiting on dlc.
