It breaks my heart that this game isn't as good as DA:O

It's not the same, true, and I learned that after playing DAO last in the series and DA2 first, but like life itself, things change. DAI is 10 years after the 5th Blight, and everyone's either dead, moved on or changed and we get to see that too, and thanks to the Keep, we can even watch how our personal choices affected the world and its people. I try and see it that way, and accept the change just like the characters do, and in the end I found myself enjoying it and all its surprises just waiting to be unwrapped if the chance is given. It's not DAO or DA2, but it's still DA to me.

I'm in the same booth. I'm taking a break from playing Inquisition (I didn't even finish my second playthrough) and playing Skyrim instead. With so much freedom I have in Skyrim makes it all the better.

I'm planning on playing Origins again and DA2. Inquisition is the type of game that you can only play once or maybe twice.

this is what im currently doing as the dragon age inquisition isn't fun to play its a chore with fetch questing and no real cinematic content just one plain boring story line that's half finished that hardly changes on your decisions. dragon age origins all the way!!

My problem with DAI is that once I do an area once I don't really need to do it again on a different playthrough.

They spent a lot of time in DAO, I think 5 years?  They also weren't associated with EA at the time.

EA/Bioware currently want to try and sell up to 20 million copies of DAI over four years. They are blinded by greed and jealously over Skyrim sales.

Are you sure? My DAO box has the EA symbol on it.

I have a really hard time believing you're actually heartbroken. On the contrary, you (and a certain contingent of posters) seem pretty giddy to have so many opportunities to complain.

That seems pretty patronising to me.  Still, it agrees with the OP insomuch as confirming that there are so many opportunities (read: reasons) to complain.  If it had been a good game, the original post probably wouldn't exist and this would be a moot point.  But I do not think it is.  I agree with the OP.

EA took over Bioware in the beginning of 2008 for 860M $, at which point Bioware had already been working on Origins for well over 3 years. So EA did get on board during development, but it was just good 'ol Bioware from the beginning ;)

Ah I see! I was first introduced to EA through The Sims after Maxis left, and later when I beta tested Star Wars: The Old Republic (all which got me wanting to buy DA2, my first DA game), which is what DAI strongly reminds me of to be honest. DAI is a lot like SWTOR and DA2 is more like DAO and SWTOR.

I was first introduced to EA during their buyouts of Bullfrog, Origin, Westwood etc., that sorta got me crying every time they bought a company seeing as it would close down only a few years later. Not saying it was EA's fault, just saying that's what happened.

Anyways, I heard EA state they would not interfere a lot with Bioware, I hope that's true, 'cause Bioware is by far one of my favorite developers out there - if not THE favorite

My only feeling I got from EA was the customizing stuff like in Sims, and character designing or fixing up Skyhold, but I still feel the true grit of Bioware that makes those games awesome!

I love the character creator in DAI. The hair could be better (no shine and more selections please), but it's still amazing, I can spend hours creating a face :P

Me too! Being an artist in real life, I love customizing! The new tint option is fun too!

I've never made prettier, better looking characters than in this CC.

That doesn't make it any less of an abomination though. The lighting is godawful, for one. And considering the kind of character creators I've seen, it's options are remarkably limited. You already mentioned the hair, but it drives me absolutely crazy that in almost all cases where you pick long hair you have the adjust the position of the ears completely unrealistically to not make them clip with the hair.

Sorry BSN, I have to post this again (and again, and again, and again :P)

And that's just a hair showcase. You can adjust everything, up to and including the body model.

I've been with bioware since BG 1

And the one thing i really miss in DA:I is a personal background.

What do i mean with it?

There is nothing special about the character you make it is very much generic, you learn nothing about the character. The Char is for no really important reason at the conclave ( OK in theory there is a reason, like being sent by your clan, but nobody cares about it and you don't have to report back or something like that).

You have nothing personal at stake and beside the mark on your hand there is nothing about you.

remembering the BG series it was the personal reason that brought you out in the world ( your 'Father' got killed) and it evolves from there to a bigger story which ultimately brings you to preventing a war. But even that is part of your personal quest of taking out Sarevok.

DA:O gave you at least a personal reason to start everything  even though this reason somewhat faded during the play through (unless you were a human noble) and only blinked on occasion.

Also in the previous game sidequests where either linked to the mainstory or told an interessting story on its on ( anybody remembering Firkraag , which was completely optional? or saving tradmeet which brought the whole shadowdruids vs druids thing + resulted in you being hero of trademeet )

This lack of personal story combined with the way too big world which was mostly filled with vast emptiness really killed the game for me.

I dont even bother if there are collect X and kill Y quests. if they really have an effect on what i'm doing but that just didn't happen.

e.g. collecting iron and wood for new weapons in Haven doesn't change the equipment of the soldiers. getting the ships from the coast does not result in the ships being removed and so on and so forth.

Beside the main quest inquisition has very little to offer to me

sidenote: i also think the characters were well done

It's nothing like Dragon Age, but there are probably many reasons for that, most of all fans pressuring the story writers to transplate a modern world into a medieval one.

Part of what made DA:O neat (for me) was the fact that as a female elf I had a lot going against me as both an elf and female and I overcame.  I even had to live with the pain of not being able to marry the one I wanted (Alastair) because of who I was.  That somehow made it feel real.

When Sten kept saying it was impossible to be a female warrior, I felt awesome.  Now the Iron Bull is like, women can be warriors they just have to change their name.  That's changing Qun culture and it leaves me with no stereotype to fight against, just a bad guy.

I dunno, I liked all the little petty dramas I overcame to be the Hero of Ferelden as a female, elf mage.

I enjoyed playing DAI but it also left me with an empty feeling, kinda like having to accept that Origins is just not coming back. It's an entertaining game but it could've been so much more.

I can't even finish my second playthrough because it's so boring. The storyline - terrible, characters - subpar, quests - 70% are fetch, no cinematic dialogue.

This has to be the most disappointing Bioware game IMO.

Noooooo

Mass Effect 3 was way worse, at least i finished DA I one time, ME 3 still has yet to be completed..

But you are right DA I is pretty bad..

I like inquisitions the engine rocks. I Miss the Sylvan's From DAO and some other missing creatures that should be added in DAI.

I am very sorry that you feel that in your opinion the game is not as good as DAO

I however enjoyed DA:I more than I did DAO.

Everyone is entitled to their own point of view though.

I agree with you. After my first completion I have come to the conclusion that the story and quests are sort of shallow. Even DA2 had a lot more interesting things happen.
