Just wanted to let people know about this so they could try it out. Shelled/shelledfade says he noticed reduced crashes in his tests with the new patch (he thinks may be related to the stability changes mentioned), but still gets some crashes.

If you notice nothing or notice less/more crashes after the recent patch with adaptive vsync enabled, post about it in the thread.

I've had little-to-no crashes in like a couple of months. The DX and GPU crashes I'd get back in November/early-December have all but disappeared.

Addendum: I have never had Adaptive V-Sync turned on. I never turn it on for almost any game I play. V-Sync should only ever be enabled if you experience screen tearing. This goes doubly so if you have dual-GPU configurations.

Things seemed to have improved on the xbone after my multi thread rant (after drinking a bottle of wine) about a week ago .

yep, you need to force adaptive vsync to stop crashes/directx crashes for nvidia cards with this game through the nvidia control panel.

I was crash free for a while however in the last week (prior to this recent patch) began getting CTD again. No message just .... Bam.... game closed.

I will try the adaptive v-sync as it cant hurt the game experience as such. I tend to disable the ingame settings anyway and force what I want in the driver.

For reference I am running

Win 7 x64

347.52 NVidia WHQL driver

GTX680 x2 SLI

EDIT: when forcing settings in NVidia Control panel do you only need the DAI .exe settings or also force Origin? I ask as often I start off Origin friends list to enter a team.

I get that retarded windows message "YOu don't have enough memory.... reduce graphics settings" constantly and had to make changes to origin.exe as well as the game .exe to turn off aero while playing so I thought I'd check :).

Also... anyone know a permanent way to stop that F#$*%ing windows pop-up?

Specs: Win 8.1

i4790 CPU (8 core, 4.0 gHz.)

16 GB RAM

Nvidia Titan on 347.52

Settings I adjusting to go from about 80% of cut scenes crashing with the DX crash to ZERO crashes for any reason (after running the game 24 hours non stop, about 14 of that actively playing, the rest not playing but not paused either.)

Nvidia CP

VSYNC Addaptive

Display Mode Single Display

IN Windows

Power scheme Performance - always on never sleep, never turn off hard drive.

In Game

Post Processing Effects LOW

Full Screen Mode

All other graphics setting Ultra or high if Ultra is not available, or as high as possible for those that do not denote Ultra, medium, etc...)

Took all of it combined with the patch 5 stability adjustments but, my DAI is now crash free. I can relax and quit hitting F5 every two seconds and just play my game. (I'm one of the beta testers is how I had time to do the 24 hour test run on patch 5.)

Is there any equivalent workaround for AMD graphics?

There has to be a workaround for AMD users. I am crashing like never before. Two to three times per hour, on average. I crashed on 4/5 when I was solo farming Poison Kills. Seriously Bioware.

I crashed a few times the other day on Xbox One, this hasn't been fixed at all.

With AMD cards I had interesting  DX crash which was able to reproduce every single time:If during the game,I went to Youtube to watch some video,my game crashed. But I had to start the video.

I'll try the famous Adaptative VSync today, as I'm tired of crashes (most of them in Haven). So, it's supposed to be ON in the drivers, then VSync OFF in the game, right?

That happened exactly when I was playing some music on Youtube, interesting.
Although I tend to play something on Youtube like 30% of the time in-game and up until this last Patch I wasn't crashing so much, at times I would play for several days without crashing. Now it is a mess. I gave up any type of soloing completely.

happened to me too: wanted to solo (lolroutine) with Luka to farm the poison/elemental kills ... everytime: DTC after a couple of zones

(but assassin and AW solo worked)

Same here, my guess is patch 5 broke things (even it introduced nice features such as mouse look toggle), everything is working fine for me after patch 4, but patch 5 made the game unplayable again.

So, not running Youtube has decreased my crashes considerably. I didn't have any crash over the last two days except for a sudden host migration. So I guess this is the AMD fix that I have asked for. Thanks for figuring it out, Zorinho.

Now I just wonder how will I stand playing slower games without conversation while not being able to run Youtube on the background...

Has anyone had an increase in Narnia since the patch? I suspect I have.

There is and, it's free but, you have to download it to get Dynamic Vsync. http://www.radeonpro.info/

For the ppl with amd 7xxx and R - series cards...
well just use mantle.. if will fix 75% of the crashes... no clue why ppl dont use it.. i mean a R290x outperformance even a gtx 980 fps wise with mantle vs dx11.

Mantle is a tricky beast in this game. If you are cpu bound it will help. If you are not it will make it worst. There's like a 12-15 pages post on anandtech with people benchmarking it.

If you have an i5 or i7 over clocked it won't do much. And people are still crashing on mantle. I myself am on a 980 gtx and from observation out of every 15 - 20 games ill crash to desktop once.

I was having horrible CTDs with patch 4 and prior to the very latest NVIDIA update. Still had crashes at patch 5, but after the NVIDIA driver update of 347.52 my games is completely stable. So.. don't know if it was the patch or the driver. Or both.

Running on GTX 980

hd 7870 and I can't even load into the starting screen of the game anymore when I try out Mantle. Not sure the cause :P but in case anyone else gets the same issue, go to documents, bioware, dragon age inquisition, save, open "ProfileOptions_profile" with wordpad, and set mantle like this "GstRender.Mantle 0" to turn it back off.

works fine for me with that card... 55+ fps on ultra/high mix ( single screen )  you are using the newest beta cc driver ?

could you link it please ? I did miss that thread.. maybe from last year... where mantle wasnt active... well i will leave you this here.. and you can decide for your own

http://www.anandtech...-mantle-preview

if you want a proof that mantle > dx11.. just google it.. since mantle but only a 10% increase on an old shity crapy i7 4960x *sorry for my laughing* is maybe not enough for a single click.

oh and for the nvidia fanbois.... which trying to argue against mantle bc their cards aren´t that good anymore... with dx12 nvida cards will be arround 2-5% faster as mantle amd cards.

The thingy will be.. if mantle will hit consoles and mobiles... dx will be screwed.. and nvidia will have a realy big problem... and i realy hope.. that won´t happen !

*for your info... non mantle games nvidia > amd... mantle games amd > nvidia.. i do own 3 amd cards and 2 nvida desktop cards .. and yes i do have that many systems bc of my job*

SiLve, amd catalyst autodetect says my 14.12 is latest version, but it's not beta version. I'm installing the beta version right now :P will update this post with whether or not mantle works for me.

edit: It works with beta version :D very long time to load into the game and quite lower FPS. Using i5 3570k.
