Normally I don't take it, I go for cleave, great cleave, etc. But certain weapons with OnHit properties such as slow, stun, or wound would seem to make it potentially much more useful, esp. If you are routinely encountering mobs.

Thoughts, suggestions?

I guess that Stun or similar effects (e.g. paralyse), Slow if it reduced the number of Attacks, maybe Poison. I still can't see that this would make taking WA worthwhile, but if you have it anyway then there might be occasion to use it. At the moment the only decent reason is to hit ethereal characters, etc.

I once played character in a module (level 6-ish) with WA as his main ability, because I wanted to give it a proper try. Never again, most likely.

You can theorycraft about how it may be useful in certain circumstances, but in practice, it's just buggy and a pain in the ass. Half of the time my character stood there doing nothing, sometimes I was slightly out of range, etc. On the other hand, the benefits weren't that great, and the time you spend trying to work around those bugs or positioning yourself in the correct spot is time you'd spend fighting if you weren't trying to get the damn thing to work.

For what it's worth, it's most useful at low levels, and probably if solo. You could take it and just use it every now and then, but considering the heavy investment it requires, I don't think it's worth it, especially when you can just be a FB and get a Supreme Cleavage.

My comment here was posted soon after finishing the module I used WA in: http://nwn2db.com/bu...130015#comments

The only time I'd consider taking Whirlwind is to qualify for the Weapon Master prestige class. I rarely bother to use it though.

As Arkalezth says, it's buggy as hell. It suffers from the same bug as Circle Kick does, in that it considers corpses to be valid targets. It can be amusing to watch blood spray up from a lootable corpse, but in practical terms you might literally find yourself flogging a dead horse. The feat is downright annoying on a companion who you're not micro-managing, as the AI wants to use it all the time - even against single enemies!

It takes a full round to execute, so at higher levels you'll be sacrificing all those extra attacks per round that you could have used killing a single enemy, in order to slightly damage a whole lot of enemies instead. It's generally better to concentrate on one enemy at a time in order to kill them as quickly as possible, so that you reduce the number of enemies attacking you all at once. A group of enemies at 'near death' can hit you just as hard as the same number of enemies with full hit points, whereas dead enemies are no threat to you at all.

Cleave or Great Cleave are better options, since you're still getting all your attacks per round, and receiving a whole bunch of free attacks on top of them. Plus you don't have to manually activate the cleave feats, which means they'll never clog up your action queue and leave you standing there like a stunned mullet the way Whirlwind often does.

That's been my general opinion as well.

A not-so-subtle request for a NSFW picture?

Busty half-orc females make the best Frenzied Berserkers, apparently. :)

Supreme cleavage - good. Reinforced camel-toe prevention system - priceless.
