I have usb headphones and want to have the audio play through them without having to reset the default sound device on my computer every time I switch from DA to or from something else.

The configure button doesn't seem to hold any settings even when "save settings" is clicked.

Is there a trick I'm missing?

Playing on a PC runnign Vista Home Premium

Thanks

Dragon Age will output the sound to the default audio card - a.k.a the speakers or the audio port. Get some standard headphones, not USB ones, or try changing the default sound output to the heaphones in Windows sttings.

See? I get the idea of switching the default sound device, but what I was hoping for was that the game could be set to use the headphones since the configuration page allows one to see and select from the list of available sound devices AND there's actually a Save Settings menu choice.

Seems rather odd in this day and age and as far as computer gaming software has come that I would still have to manually change the windows default sound device in order to use USB headphones.  Many recent gaming programs allow themselves to have default sound devices other than the windows sytem default, ie Ventrilo, Teamspeak, WoW, AoC, Aion etc etc

Besides, if I were to plug in headphones to the soundcard, that would require unplugging the speakers and that's half the reason my headphones are USB.

Thank you though.

I happen to know of such speakers:

Lenovo ThinkVision USB Soundbar

This is an accessory to this Monitor:

IBM 20.1" ThinkVision LCD Display - Black

Hope I helped.

I appreciate the advice, however you're all missing the point. It has become standard in pc games to allow the game/program to direct the sound output to any available sound device on the computer rather than be stuck with the windows system default sound device.

The Configure option on the Launcher also SEEMS to allow this via the ability to select any of the current sound options AND the inclusion of a "save settings" menu option. It does not however, appear to work as intended.

Yup, i've heard of Headphones that plug into USB ports & get both their sound & power from it. I don't know much about them though.

USB headphones have the sound circuitry of a dedicated sound card built into the headphones.  They interface with the PC via the USB port and can take the place of a dedicated sound card, or they can be used as an alternate sound device.  Dragon Naturally Speaking, IBM Via Voice, and other speech-to-text applications make good use of these, as well as laptop computers.  A desktop can make use of them if the on-board sound device is of lesser quality as well.  The main problem with them is that most applications default to the first or default sound device, and stubbornly refuse to allow changes to be saved, which can be frustrating.

The easiest solution is to change the Windows default sound device to the USB headset, though switching back and forth can be a PITA as the original poster described.  Unfortunately, not much can be done about this unless the Bioware worked to develop a patch to allow the settings to be saved or something (which is probably highly unlikely, given the workload they currently face regarding bugs).

Sometimes I wonder if Motherboards should stop integrating their Sound Systems & go back to makin it something seperate so we can choose what Sound System to stick into our puders. Integrated functions that end up not used are partially wasted cash.
