I just got Mass Effect 2 and I cannot install it.

If I go to autorun I get "Error: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 in inter XML settings." followed by a blank error thing.

If I explore the cd and use the setup file, it just says "Mass Effect 2 Installer has stopped working" after I select Custom/express install.

Any help?

Edit: Using windows vista 32-bit btw

Ok option one...please wait, i'm trying that.

Option 2, I get the same error as if it was a physical cd. Then again, the poweriso files weren't in .iso format so lets give this another go...

Ok, new situation.

Option 1 works, game is playable but the damn config file is also suffering from the "Error: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 in inter XML settings." problem.

Option 2 still acts like its a physical cd. .iso or not, nothing much has changed.

Help me resolve the config problem so I can start playing!

Sorry to be a bother but would you mind explaining what you had to do to make the game playable, to that point, I don't understand what option 1 is asking you to do, as in moving rar files to an installation folder when you can't install the game >.>

Sorry, what I did was after copying both cd files into one location, make an improvised ME2 directory, drag all but the spanish rar files in it and select "extract here".

Mounty, my direct x is at august 2009, was there another update?

Volo it should act like disc 1 was in there. You just run the install with the virtual disc 1 mounted, and then disc 2 in your physical tray.

Also make sure your virtual drive is a LOWER letter than your real one (if real DVD is E: make virtual F: or G: - someone made a little more progress with that in place).

Yeah, im not really sure what i did... it worked though and the game is somewhat playable. 2 new problems...

1. The config is suffering from the "Error: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 in inter XML settings." problem.

2. the game goes up until the lazarus project, specifically the loadscreen with the heartbeat. A few seconds there and the game crashes.

I'm going to bed now :P

Oh, and before I go, im getting some weird visual bug. Its hard to describe but its like the buttons wont stop flashing or something. With this it's usually really hard to see the options text.

Tobi - the fact that you've completely installed without a hitch is a good thing.

http://social.biowar.../index/774172/2 - look there, maybe it's something else. You haven't said "exactly" what yours does to crash.

Volo check your display drivers and do the above post.

From everywhere i've looked through general searches for the "Error: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 in inter XML settings." problem, it's just people trying to explain their problem and finding no solution.

Well, if I want my DLC then i have to find a way to get the installer working >.<

I'm wondering to see if I can get a refund and just buy the steam version instead.
