It's still interesting to me that so much is NOT in the memories (like the meanings of runes). Perhaps they're in the memories in Kal-Sharok (how does one move a magical wall of runes, after all?).

BIOWARE Y U DO DIS???? I wanna go to Kal Sharok and nom all that lore!!!

OK, here's a horrifying thought.

The runes are magical, yes?  And the Blight can taint lyrium.  What if all those Memories in Kal-Sharok have become corrupted?  They can still be read/accessed, but at the risk of Blighting and warping the one trying to use them.

Also, holy nibblets guys.

How the heck am I going to get all this onto the Solas thread? (I promised I'd post it there too...)

Nothing stopping you all from coming back to the Solas thread...

Either post a wall, a wall of key points, a paragraph summary. Or write a summary and spoiler tag the theory.

I love you too Liz... thigh people must stick together which sounds so wrong. Interesting reading.

Does the Vallaslin go all the way down? I've been wondering that all day.

I think morrigan brought the eluvian to skyhold. If you play TLC she comes to serault to fix it.

The eluvian used in-game? Yes, Morrigan brought it.

The eluvian needed to keep Tarasyl'an Tel'as connected with the wider Elvhen Empire? Not mentioned at all. It could still be there, somewhere.

That would explain why the Kal'Sharok dwarves are so weird.

Is it possible for the diplomacy with them to go well in Inquisition?

Also, didn't they, like, explode out of the ground and slaughter Venatori in one of the War Table missions? Besides the awesome attack of the bearded mole-people thing, there's the implication that they can move throughout the Deep Roads and launch strikes on the surface with negligible darkspawn interference.

Tirashan DLC, and Kal'Sharok as a main city in DA4.

I already lived over one Hellmouth back in DA2.  Not sure if my body is quite ready for that again  :P

The Vallaslin are quite obviously magic since Solas can magically remove them.

Somebody once mentioned that it'll be ironic if.when the ell god reawakened they will mind control the Dalish elf that have their Vallaslin and use them for war

Oh, Crystal White. If only you had stopped once Lavellan died in ancient Arlathan, I would have loved you forever... </3

While I'm not necessarily onboard for mass-tranquility of the population, I do think tranquility in some form existed, and it would explain Solas' interest in getting Cassandra to be open about the practice and to seek out a cure.

There are modern spells and wards that limit magic from being performed. Maybe one of the purposes of Vallaslin acted as a magic dampener unless the noble/god specifically removed that shackle.

So for people like Abelas and the Sentinels, they are still marked with Vallaslin, yet still retain their ability to do magic because Mythal (or whichever noble/priest was in charge of the temple) allowed them to in order to perform their duty.

Someone like a slave cleaning chamber pots doesn't need to perform magic, therefore whoever marked their face would dampen their ability to use it. That falls under the "slave markings had power" category. They probably had multiple purposes and could be interacted with to some extent, along with being a traditional marker of which god the master favors.

Yes! There's also this weird codex:

http://dragonage.wik...with_Kal-Sharok

The Kal-Sharok trader clearly has surface goods, though there are no known access points to the surface from the city. The particular wartable mission has your agents helping kal sharok dwarves, though I don't think you're allowed to enter the city (in fact, I think you can bork the mission up and get your agents killed if you don't do things their way)

This reminds me uncomfortably of the weird rods and collars that the qunari use to shackle their saarebas.  I approve.

You basically have to do everything they ask in requirement for their aid.  Meaning, no questions, don't stay long, etc.  Leli is the agent needed to make this mission a success.

I have a paper doll base for that answer...

Spoiler

If you look very carefully at what's underneath those glorious, green Arlathan briefs, I say yes. I have the full-file with the full design, but I'm pretty sure that'd be NSFW.

Fenris' make me want to say yes to that question as well. They probably haven't designed full body ones purely because of the time and effort it would take to design 10+ full body vallaslin only wearable by a fraction of the player-character base.

Actually... Bioware did. They just never used it in game.

I am legit looking for a jacket to put these patches on. I want a big, over-sized black baseball jacket with leather sleeves. Littered with patches. And Abelas' face? We could do that. Or his thighs. <3

Oh - are we talking about metal jackets....BAM...made for my boyfriend because i'm so cool

YES. OH GOD, YES. This is actually why I've been thinking that the dwarves were forced to abandon the Titans - they became corrupted by the blight. The only way to collectively save themselves was to cut themselves off - become the truncated arm/ hand of a dead hero. Likely severing themselves from the Fade in the process.

I think this is a good possibility.

Left field: I wonder if they were ever really connected to the Fade at all. That they were deeply connected to the "Stone," which worked in concert with the Fade. But not the Fade as such. That because of this, dwarves were always the ones to shape reality, but it was their "stone sense" that got truncated.

They often talk about fearing the sky and are metaphorically and figuratively always looking down, trying to articulate "stone sense" but never quite reaching it.

Or perhaps the Fade and Stone are really so interconnected that the Stone is another way of perceiving the Fade.

(or something)
