Sylaise would take charge of the grills, Andruil provide the meat, and Dirthamen would bring drinks because only he knows the secret to keeping a drink cool and refreshing on a hot summer's day without the ice melting.
Fen'Harel would provide the waiter service and make sure that everybody was sufficiently plastered to spill all their best bedroom secrets...

So. Did anyone else notice that the story that Merrill tells you about the spirit from her eluvian:
"There was a war, long ago, between my people and the Tevinter Imperium. After the Magisters sunk Arlethan, my people made a last stand here on the grave of our elders. I don't know if it was the Elvenahn or the Tevinters who bound the spirit, but he was left here from the war..."
The only issue with that is...Abelas tells us:
"The shemlen did not destroy Arlathan. We Elvehn waged war upon ourselves. By the time the doors to this sanctuary closed, Our time was over."
SO what was the spirit and what was it doing there. And why wouldn't it have told her this.
I mean, it could be lore inconsistency, but Gaider mentions that if you let her keep the eluvian it may come back to bite her in the ass...
IDK where I'm going with this...BUT ITS A THING.
Edit: There is veilfire all around that shrine place. Idk what that means.

I think when Abelas says that the Elves destroyed Arlathan what he means is that the Elves shot themselves in the foot. There was still a war between Elves and Tevinter, but it was fought between remnants, probably the freed and leaderless slaves.

I know there was a war between them after Arlathan was gone...but Merrill specifically says "the magisters sunk Arlathan" and the story that everyone knew about the elves was that Tevinter was responsible, even Dorian is surprised when he learns that it was not so.

I think they claimed victory over a dying corpse. It's like 'oh ho ho ho - we laid this great empire low - look how powerful we are' but....it was pretty much beating a dead horse. So I would believe Tevinter sunk Arlathan but I doubt the elves put up much of a fight. It sounds like they had pretty much wiped themselves out. So there is likely truth to both stories - and that lies somewhere in the middle.

That is the impression I got as well. It seems to me that most of what Tevinter did was sweep in, knock any paltry resistance down, and reap the easy rewards of Elvhen culture, religion, and technology (magical and otherwise). It's all very Roman, especially with how integrated these things became later on; even the modern swears for elves and the Tevinter are super similar ('venhedis,' 'fenedhis'), not to mention a myriad of other similarities ranging from magical technique to religion.
Though now I'm just imagining a sickly elf playing in a bath tub with a ship. Then some incredibly gorgeous but mean-spirited Tevinter comes in, sinks his battered float toys, then steals all the nice, imported shampoos. Actual photographic evidence of sunken Arlathan:

Demons tend to lie. A lot.

I think Solas is responsible for Arlathan going walkies tbh. Tevinter was just blamed for it because there wasn't really any explanation, and they would be more than happy to take the credit for it.

Pretty much.

I just want to know where her eluvian goes...

Judging by how darkspawn came out of it in the Dalish Origin I'd think no where good.

Excuuuuseeee you. There could be some fabulous Tevinter magister there as well. If so, I approve.

Or an equally fabulous Broodmother.

Wouldn't just go to the crossroads that Morrigan shows us? I think people said that you can see it during the cutscene.

We see a lot of Tevinter-esque architecture in the physical Fade. But perhaps that's a mistake on our part, assuming that it's meant to be representative of Tevinter. What if their own architectural style, like everything else related to their culture, was simply something they stole from the elves? That would be in-keeping with the twist that their culture isn't truly their own, but a human facsimile of a much greater elven empire.

I think that would probably be fairly accurate. Tevinter seems to be set up to be much like Rome - as Meer pointed out. Where they appropriated a lot of their culture, art, politics etc. from the empires they sacked and cast off the pieces they didn't like. In time it twisted and became their own, but it was built on the foundations of other societies. It's actually a pretty savvy move. It makes assimilation easier for the conquered as things feel somewhat familiar.

I didn't mean to imply I was disagreeing with Meer. Rather, it was my intention to elaborate on the point and suggesting that perhaps far more of Tevinter than we currently believe ties in with the old elvhen empire.

Oh no. I didn't think you were - I think this is a case where tone didn't translate. I was simply agreeing and then rambling along with you
