David Gaider @davidgaider

So a bit of news: I have decided leave Dragon Age and move onto a new, upcoming BioWare project (which I can't discuss).

David Gaider @davidgaider

While it's hard to leave Dragon Age behind, 10 years is a long time to work on any one project. I decided it was time for something new.

David Gaider @davidgaider

I am happy, however, to leave Dragon Age in good hands: @PatrickWeekes will be Lead Writer once I'm gone. I can't think of anyone better.

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

What an honor it's been working with @davidgaider over the past years. And yet, he's already kicking ass on "new Bioware thing" ™

At least he is still with Bioware. I may not be a big fan of the direction DAI took, I am proud for the fact that he was not afraid to tackle homosexuality in a videogame and not avoid it like most other AAA writers....and this is coming from a heterosexual male.

Indeed.

I wonder if this new project is the new IP Casey Hudson was leading before he took his leave last year.

I'm looking on it as a positive thing. DG gets to do something new, fresh and exciting, we get to see the results of that freshness in the new project and he leaves DA in good hands with all the really hard work already done. Good for us, good for David. And congrats to Patrick Weekes!

I'm kind of bummed about this.  He's a bit snippy most of the time, but he's a fantastic writer and the series has featured some amazing stories.  I'm glad he's not leaving Bioware, so I look forward to seeing what he's going to do next.

And, on a positive note, Patrick is great, so I'm confident that he's going to continue the series at the current level.

I wonder what this means for DA4, though.  Surely, they've been working on this game by now.  I wonder if this means that Gaider started the direction and Patrick will continue with what's already been established or if they've been working on it together.  I'm also assuming that this means that we won't be seeing any characters written by Gaider, which is a bummer because I was really hoping we'd get Maevaris in the next game!

Just saw it on Twitter.

Patrick Weekes is a great writer. I can only say I'm thankful for all the wonderful work Gaider's done over the years.

Don't know how to feel about this.

On one hand, Dragon Age is now free of him. On the other, one of the new projects now has him.

Basically reposting what I said in another thread, but-

I'm not worried, as Weekes is one of Bioware's best writers. But I just hope that recent fan dramas and other debacles are not what influenced Gaider's decision to leave Dragon Age.

Sad day.  :( At least he's staying with BioWare... and it makes me much more interested in whatever this new project might be...

But, on a happier note, grats to Patrick Weekes! I look forward to seeing what he has in store for future DA games.

I'm going to miss his presence on DA. He wrote so many characters that I love (Zevran, Dorian, Cassandra, Morrigan, Alistair, Fenris, etc. etc.)

But I also have complete faith in Patrick Weekes and am very excited for the new IP.
