I also don't think that Tevinter is really associated with that theme anymore; they're basically just all-mage Orlais now.

It's the only place where that theme has significant presence, given what Imperial Circles are like, and what goes on behind the scenes.

But most of those aren't breaking new ground in magic or anything, just being dicks with magic. I do want blood mages to be playable again, though.

There been a few mistakes (in my opinion) in the direction Dragon Age gone at times but his support for the fanbase is pretty unique as far as game development goes so no idea why he gets so much hate. I will always love him for Ascension and his support of the Baldur's gate modding community alone.

I hope the new project will be as amazing as the Dragon Age has been!

In case this hasn't been posted, this tweet suggests Dave is now working on the studio's new IP, aka the same project Casey Hudson worked on prior to his departure.

As expected, they needed someone who knows how to build new worlds.

this may be for the best, I'm certainly pleased to see Patrick get a chance in the spotlight I'm hoping under his direction we'll see DA eolve and grow and that maybe some of my personal bug bears might be addressed in the future.

David has had mixed success in my eyes but there's no denying he's done excellent work, I'm hoping that with him in a new project we'll see him shine. And  a fresh start could be really great for both him and fans

I have a feeling something happened. Seems a bit strange this just came out of the blue.

He may of been thinking of doing this for awhile and just decided it was time to make the change. As he said 10 years is a long time to work on one project, especially in the gaming field.

This is bittersweet news - Dave did good by Dragon Age, but I'm glad that he's leaving the lead writer position in excellent hands.

Excited at the prospect of a new BIoware project (or a new IP that's not a multiplayer game) with him on the team!

DG is a great writer and I wish him all of the best. I've always enjoyed his characters and I'm looking forward to see what he brings to a new IP.

I'm super excited about Patrick Weekes however. Some of my favourite recent Bioware moments - ME3 Tuchanka, Cole and Solas in DAI - were a product of his writing. I'm looking forward to see the direction he takes the series in.

I now wonder if Patrick Weekes was strongly influenced by his own children for the innocence portrayed in Cole's dialogue? Thanks for posting this.

This is great news for the new IP, and I couldn't have hoped for a better writer to take over dragon age. This feels like a win-win for fans.

Just to note, the Tuchanka arc was written by John Dombrow (Patrick only helped with Mordin). Eve, Wrex, Wreav, Padok; those were all John. Last we heard, John left BioWare in 2013.

Patrick did write Rannoch (with some help from Sylvia). I felt it was the inferior of the two, but I don't think it was bad.

I don't know whether Mr. Gaider wrote much of what I loved in the first DA, as well as older games like the BG series, but I do know that he wrote Alistair and Morrigan in Origins, and that is enough to make me sad (and very grateful to him) that he's leaving.

Also, my main fear over Mr. Gaider's exit is: Dorian. I'm worried Dorian won't be brought back, and even if he is, that they won't do right by him.

Mr. Weekes, if by chance you should come across this post, please ensure that Dorian returns for any future installments (preferably as a full party member) and that the writing for him rings true! I have faith in you since you did render Sera, Cole and Solas, and they (along with Dorian) remain perhaps the most interestingly written (and different from the rest) characters in Inquisition.

Lukas Kristjanson wrote Sera.

Thanks for the correction, PCThug.

My belief in Mr. Weekes still stands, though, because Solas and Cole did stand out to me (especially the former) over the ordinariness of some of the other characters. Now that I know Mr. Kristjanson wrote Sera, I certainly won't mind either if he gets right into the thick of things when it comes to writing any future DA installments.

Here's to being late to the party, but DA without Gaider is imho a bit of a hard pill to swallow, seeing how he is probably the reason why I moved from liking a game that I played uh, occasionally rather than doing my homework to being a fan of a truly intriguing franchise.

Thank you for writing Shale, DA:A Anders, Alistair, Morrigan, Justice and Meredith, as well as standing up to the usual forum trolls with (dry) humour and integrity.

Best wishes to you and your undoubtedly worthy successor just don't forget to glare at him occasionally I still haven't quite recovered from Mordin kthxbye.

(And that's as much as I can stand being cheesy for a day.)

Miranda's arc wasn't really about opposition to genetic enhancement, just about not being defined by it. I also don't think that Tevinter is really associated with that theme anymore; they're basically just all-mage Orlais now.

It always was.

Gaider helped create and steer the ship of one of my favorite franchises.  Nothing but the ultimate respect.  I'm bummed.  Not gonna lie.

But finding out Patrick Weekes is the new lead?  Helps soften the blow!

Congrats to both!

Good luck and Godspeed David.  Its always bittersweet to see talented people leave something you love, but I'm excited about the new IP.  The RPG genre could use another flagship.

Welcome aboard Patrick.  I'm excited to see your ideas for one of my favorite franchises.

It's a bit sad, but understandable. Ten years is a long time and I can imagine you want to do something else. Perhaps he will be working on the new mass effect or better yet (and I really hope that) a new jade empire.

The official info says he'll be working on a new, yet-to-be-announced project.

Funny how he decides to leave just after the most successful DA launch....makes you wonder, doesn't it...

Successful launch for EA, yes. They managed to market the game in a way to boost sales.

But why would someone leave a franchise at the top of its game after so many years of hard work?

Maybe things with the franchise is not quite as it appears and Gaider made a wise choice to get out while the opportunity to hop onto other projects within Bioware is still there...

Makes you wonder? No, it's doesn't actually.

But hey, keep on trucking with your anti-BioWare ranting.

You can be tired of something even when it's successful ! My fanfiction was very successful, and people harassed me about it, and I still was unable to continue. My interest went simply to other things that excited me. Many were disappointed, and I was truly sorry, but It's just that I wasn't anymore interested writting this story. It serves absolutely no purpose to work on a project that doesn't interest you anymore, regardless of the success !

Now, I don't know David's Gaider reasons, but there could be many personal and legetimate reasons that could explain why he leaves.

I wish to Gaider good luck for his new project, he is good at working at them , thank you for DAO, Alistair, Morrigan, and Cassandra.
