Except that now could well be the time in the new project when the world-building and primary story arc writing need to get off the ground, and David Gaider has experience in these areas since this is what he did for DA. It makes no sense to have him/the new project wait around for a year until the dlc cycle is done, especially since for all we know the overall story of the dlc may already be in place.
As far as 'rats deserting a sinking ship' goes, EA is hardly likely to waste the talents of one of Bioware's best writers (Patrick Weekes) on a dying franchise when he could just as easily be put to good use on the new IP or the next Mass Effect. There would be no common sense to such a decision.
Putting aside Weekes' skill he was one of the few ME devs to come out of ME3 in better graces with the fans and has written fan favourite plots for DAI. I don't see why EA would waste that reputational capital.

Mr. Gaider has some seniority at Bio ... I bet the new project is something really f'in cool and he was like "Guys I kind of hate to step away from DA when we are getting close to the finale but this new project ... I have to be a part of it" (Fictional D. Gaider quote)

Mr. Gaider goes same way as he's writing ; the bittersweet way. Merci pour tout.

And what about Dorian? I was kinda hoping the next game would be set in Tevinter with Dorian in tow.
Anyway, I wish him the best in his new project but I love Dragon Age too much not to be sad about it at the same time!

Others will write them. That's happened lots of times with Bioware games; characters do change hands.

The last part of the game dialogue with heavy emphasis on Corypheus in mind and the choices you have:
If Weeks wrote it, this is bad news for DA.
If Gaider wrote it, this is good news for DA.
Both are good writers. But whoever were in charge of that botched DA:I for me from a perfect game to a 7.8/10.

Weekes is a younger and more edgy writer, which leaves......the other guy.

Weekes wroted the best parts of ME3, not to mention that his characters are the best in both DA and ME universes.
Yes.
I think Gaider is just burnt out.

I truly liked only three Gaider characters: Morrigan, Dorian and Meredith (possibly Flemeth, but he didn't write her originally, did he?).
Zevran I absolutely despise. Shale I found boring. Cassandra is average. All of Awekening characters were meh for me, and I couldn't stand Fenris.
His Dragon Age novels were very good though, both 'The Calling' and 'Asunder'. I didn't read 'The Stolen Throne', but I heard it is very good as well.
But Weekes wrote some of the best characters in Mass Effect, as well as the best questlines in Mass Effect 3, along with writing Solas and Cole in Inquisition and a very good novel - ' The Masked Empire' - so I consider him a very good replacement.

Burnt out on DA, maybe. If he's burnt out in general moving to a new IP isn't the answer.

Time will tell, but after being head writer for ten years on the same project, it's no surprise he wants some change.

Change sometimes can be very good especially after being on one project for so long. Moving from one project to another allows one to gain perspective of what one has done and what one will do. The new IP may allow Mr. Gaider to invigorate his creative juices.

Consider the character development of Mordin and Miranda. I think Weekes has a rather conventional outlook when it comes to morality. This works well for characters like Cole (while it didn't for Mordin and Miranda), and I think Weekes has a gift for writing characters with a degree of "otherness", but I don't think we'll see controversial ethical viewpoints given their due with him, and I don't think we'll see a return to the darker tone of the previous games.
Will Tevinter lose its status as the Evil Empire, which is only fit to be fought, and never admired for anything it ever did, regardless of whether it was admirable from a reasonable viewpoint, just because it was associated with evil? IMO the chances of that have just taken a downturn.
Whether or not I agree about Mordin and Miranda, I'm curious which ethical viewpoint in the Masked Empire is one you'd consider uncontroversial?

The DA story needs a new head writer. DAI had quite a few flat out boring major plot points. And the ending was a complete bore.

Patrick tweeted saying that no, other writers won't take them over (or at least that he wouldn't be taking over Gaider's characters), and that they ask authors on other projects to provide voice to their original characters if they still will.

I fully understand if someone wants change after 10 years of the same project.
Naturally I do find it hard to face, as all my favorite characters have been written by Gaider (I even liked Anomen. Oh dear.). Always loving it when someone entertains me. That said: I personally think the change is positive- not because I think it needed to happen, but because it should serve both Gaider himself and the series well. Change to everybody. Enjoying what you do is important. Not enjoying it will inevitably harm everyone who consumes the fruits of your labor more, than cutting the cord.
That said I want a D.Gaider dlc: minigame of Fenris tossing bottles of red wine on the walls, Dorian trying to lick it from there. Also Hawke and Inquisitor can bet on the winner of a wrestling match between magister-hating slave and magister's son, including a lot of mud. That's all. No? Ok then. Have to practice inner thoughts in the future I think.
