SCANDALOUS
Also what happens to cannon, because it was always the word of gaider that determined it, hopefully that DA bible is real
I have a feeling something happened. Seems a bit strange this just came out of the blue.
As a fan of both, this means that I have to buy both the next DA game and the game from that next Bioware project.
Best of luck to both of them!
I've been feeling more and more over the past few years that David was getting kind of tired of DA. When compared to Patrick's mad enthusiasm, it seems like a logical progression and one that I hope pays off for both DA and the new IP.
I wonder if Dave and Mike started butting heads and Dave just threw up his hands and had enough.
Geez not every decision is made because 2 people fought eachother. David probably just got bored lol.
Not really the time or place, you know?
Which is why I wanted to leave my response short rather than get in an argument but while still putting something to express my opinion on this piece of news.
I'd love to hear your reasoning behind this.
Tell me some of the reasons, intrensting
I'd rather not. It will not end well.
It's about Merrill, huh.
Partly, but that isn't it.
I doubt that it came out of the blue. David deleted his Tumblr account a few weeks ago. And I suspect they brought Patrick on to the DA team way back when with the idea that he would take over when the time came.
Personally, I like David's work, but I'm also excited to see how the game will evolve under Patrick's guidance.
Plus if you go through and look on wiki, Patrick wrote A LOT of the content for DA, a lot of the side characters, a lot of the main story missions. It was like they were handing it slowly off to him anyways. Also Mr. Gaider tweeted a couple days ago about how The Project was going to cut into his working out, so that was the first hint of it we got...just all thought it was DLC or his books
Sad to see Gaider leave Dragon Age, but I'm excited that he is going to be taking on a new project. No doubt his amazing writing will help define Bioware's new IP.
And (see what I did there
), congratulations to Patrick Weekes who is my other favorite Bioware writer (if one can truly have fav'rites
) with such fantastic companions and stories.
sorry, not sorry for starting sentences with 'and' in addition to gratuitous apostrophe use. I couldn't figure out a gooode place to add the extra vowels.
I'm also assuming that this means that we won't be seeing any characters written by Gaider, which is a bummer because I was really hoping we'd get Maevaris in the next game!
Why would you assume that? Cole was a David Gaider character yet Patrick Weekes wrote him for DAI. Same could happen for Maevaris.
Geez not every decision is made because 2 people fought eachother. David probably just got bored lol.
It was meant to be speculation not fact, don't twist the two.
I think that this is a good thing. Patrick Weekes is in my opinion, the best writer Bioware has had. He did such an amazing job in Mass Effect and in Dragon Age. So I like the notion of him taking over David Gaider.
As for David Gaider, this can only be an opportunity to be more creative and explore new things. I like most of what he wrote, Morrigan in particular is in my opinion, one of Gaider's best writing. However, it has been a decade and it would be good for him to do something new, get a new perspective and then come back later if he is to do so.
I'm kind of bummed about this. He's a bit snippy most of the time, but he's a fantastic writer and the series has featured some amazing stories. I'm glad he's not leaving Bioware, so I look forward to seeing what he's going to do next.
And, on a positive note, Patrick is great, so I'm confident that he's going to continue the series at the current level.
I wonder what this means for DA4, though. Surely, they've been working on this game by now. I wonder if this means that Gaider started the direction and Patrick will continue with what's already been established or if they've been working on it together. I'm also assuming that this means that we won't be seeing any characters written by Gaider, which is a bummer because I was really hoping we'd get Maevaris in the next game!
I bet they already have the story boards for it. Definitely want to see Maevaris. While he no longer be involved...I bet the other writers will seek advice from him.
Please tell me its a reboot of Shadow Realms. I CANT STAND THE SUSPENSE!!!
I'd like to say I was surprised by this but...yeah.
Thank you for everything, David Gaider.
Good luck to you, Weekes.
SCANDALOUS

SANDALOUS! ![]()
Laters DG, interested to see what this unannounced project is. Grats' to Patrick Weekes though! Looking forward to seeing what he's got cooking up too.
I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted a respite from being the go-to person to blame for everything that someone didn't like about DA, while everything good he created was treated as if it sprung into being independently.
I wonder if Dave and Mike started butting heads and Dave just threw up his hands and had enough.
Oh my God can we cease with the freaking conspiracy theories???
This is not Radar Online. The man wanted to move on and Patrick Weekes is a damn good writer
I'm mourning. *enters drama queen mode*
Seems good to me. Gaider can do something fresh, there's plenty of the old team still around to keep some continuity going on, and Weekes' stuff has generally been good.
So no word concerning all of Gaider's DA characters? Is Weekes going to be writing them now?
So a bit of news: I have decided leave Dragon Age and move onto a new, upcoming BioWare project (which I can't discuss).
While it's hard to leave Dragon Age behind, 10 years is a long time to work on any one project. I decided it was time for something new.
I am happy, however, to leave Dragon Age in good hands: @PatrickWeekes will be Lead Writer once I'm gone. I can't think of anyone better.
What an honor it's been working with @davidgaider over the past years. And yet, he's already kicking ass on "new Bioware thing" ™
LLAP Gaiders!
