Well... DG wrote Cole and Weekes took over the character... I think we'll be fine.

So no word concerning all of Gaider's DA characters? Is Weeks going to be writing them now?

Characters don't have to be assigned to the same writer all along, to my knowledge. They alternate between different writers all the time.

You know, I've felt like Patrick Weekes was too talented to stay under another writer for much longer. I thought he'd be moved to a new IP of his own one of these days, but instead it played out like this. I'm still floored by it. It's an exciting thing, to be sure.

That said, I'm still sad. Ten years is a long time. Mr. Gaider did so much great work on the series.

TBH this is another nail in the coffin on the DA franchise for me personally, DG wrote the only characters i liked in the series with the rest not even coming close (no disrespect intended i just really liked his characters) and with the utter lack of enthusiasm i have to play DA:I, which again is surprising since i played both DA:O an DA2 well over 50 times each, im just getting that feeling i get ...........well when its time to move on i guess.

Anyhow gl Mr Gaider in your new project and gl Mr Weekes in yours ;) long may you both prosper

Yeah, I wonder what's going to happen to Cassandra and Dorian in the DLC for Inquisition.

I'm really neither here nor there with this news. I really only liked a handful of Gaider's characters, and I really didn't care much for his snark, both from him and from his characters. If anything, I'm glad that he's gone, not necessarily because I dislike him (I don't), but because it'll allow more writers at Bioware to get recognition. I really feel as though a lot of people ignore all the many writers that contribute to the DA setting and just focus on Gaider, so with him gone, maybe more people will be able to acknowledge these other writers and give them the credit they deserve instead of always praising Gaider.

I'd love to hear your reasoning behind this.

He probably just said some things that pissed them off. Gaider's very opnionated, and there are a lot of people eager to interpret everything he says in the worst way possible. Hopefully, with this news, that section of the fandom can declare victory and spare everyone of more pointless drama.

It depends on seniority, and how important the character is. Also, how close a writer is to a character. How many diffrent writers wrote Morrigan over the past decade? It's hard to picture someone else writing her.

I'm not the biggest Gaider fan TBH, but this leaves me wondering what will be of characters like Morrigan, Dorian and Cassandra. We all remember what happened when an Gaider character jumped writer.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted a respite from being the go-to person to blame for everything that someone didn't like about DA, while everything good he created was treated as if it sprung into being independently.

I call this the George Lucas Effect.

I feel like it can be good news for both of them. I really loved Patrick Weekes novel, and overall writing of Solas & Cole (being my favorite characters), so I have no doubts he'll handle this new position very well. Meaning we'll probably end up suffering and drowning in our own tears very soon.

Oh wait, as a Solasmancer, that's already the case. Carry on then.

Swimming hard away from the sinking ship or left on an island with a bottle of rum and a single bullet?

Hopefully the force of the collective shrug doesn't knock any buildings down.

Oh my God can we cease with the freaking conspiracy theories???

This is not Radar Online. The man wanted to move on and Patrick Weekes is a damn good writer

Uh no.

Anyways...

It will be interesting to see where DA franchise goes.

Sure did. I absolutely detested Cole in Asunder, but Weekes was able to make him my most favorite character in DAI.

Yeah, most likely. This will probably only affect future installments, not Inquisition.

I was bummed out when I learned about this. Mr. Gaider wrote most of my favorite characters, but I'll take comfort knowing that he's leaving Dragon Age in good hands.

Best of luck to them both.

Are you talking about Anders? I'm not intimately familiar with who wrote what.
