Are you talking about Anders? I'm not intimately familiar with who wrote what.

Gaider wrote Anders In Awakening then he passed him down to Hepler for DA2, and now most of fandom hates Anders. So I'm a little wary we might end up in that road again. Maybe not, but who knows?

A Jade Empire remake on Next Gen wouldn't be so bad.

Nope, Baldur's Gate 3. lol

Hope this is a move that pleases everyone at Bioware. Now looking forward to hearing more of the new IP, as the DA series may have cone from DG, too.

Next question: Who is the current official DA rep for Snark? :D

I am an avid David Gaider fan owning everything he wrote. Origins continues to be my favorite game of all time.

I love Patrick's writing but was hoping he was only with DA temporarily and would move back to ME. Now what will ME look like?

You will truly be missed David within the DA franchise. Without WoG, my compass feels broken and I'm not sure three circles in a parking lot will fix it.

"To thine own self be true..." David.

Gaider is terrific at big-picture world-building. Dragon Age doesn't really need that anymore.

I'm now way more interested in the other thing now, though. I hadn't given it much thought before, but now I find I care.

If only BioWare would be as open about its development as they were about DAO. I miss that.

Nope, Baldur's Gate 3. lol

How cool would that be? One can dream  ...

Anyway, I'm a bit bummed but I wish Mr Gaider and Mr Weekes the best of luck. I'm curious what this new project is and what direction Dragon Age will take.

I love DA2 Anders!!!! I'm glad Giader didn't leave Bioware, but It is sad for him to leave Dragon Age. I'm optimistic that Patrick Weekes will come up with some good ideas.

When you've done something for a long time, it's easy to just keep doing it. But down that path lies complacency.

Or, David just knew that leaving was a good way to inspire more fan tears.

Maybe I've been on Tumblr too much, but it seems like the opposite - a LOT of people love Anders from DA2, at least from what I've seen. I personally didn't care for him in DA2 and loved him in Awakening, but I didn't hate the character.

Even though Weekes is a very strong writer, I'm worried that several things might get lost with Gaider's departure.

I'm neutral on his leaving. I respect his work, I respect his decision, and I wish him the best.

...sooooo, what stance does Patrick Weekes have on dwarf romances? :P

Tumblr is literally the place were all the Anders fandom goes to hide. But leave tumblr and most other places will have nothing but Anders haters.

I  personally prefer Patrick Weekes as a writer for characters he is very talented and i find Solas as one of   the best character in the Franchise.
Some of Gaiders characters in the franchise are (at last for me)  too much of a stereotype and too much unidimensional  I'm looking at you (Meredith,Fenris,Alistair,Zevran , Dorian).  Cassandra is his true Gem.

On one hand I'm sad to see Mr. Gaider leave, but on the other hand Mr. Weekes is an awesome writer and I'm excited to what he has in store for us.

I wonder what that new IP is.

I'm not really surprised for some reasons?

I guess D. Gaider closing down his tumblr and not talking much lately send some alarm bells.

Oh well...we shall see.

I find it hard to judge if P. Weekes will be good or not as a lead writer because from what I've gathered he will write less and will have to deal with other stuff.(managing a team etc...)

I think its good for him.  I bet he was burnt out and just didn't have that fire in it for him.  Maybe something new will bring out his A game and ignite a passion.

Seconded.  I was just thinking I want to know more about this new super-secret project now.  I feel pretty good about it all of a sudden.

There is nothing as stable as change. The change may be good for all concerned. The break may be good for energerizing Gaider and giving a different but somewhat samey take on DA from Weekes.

I'm really concerned. First- he wrote some of my favorite companions. Second- He's been the only writer that was quite active out here. That means, he knew about the suggestions about story and companions (future companions!!!) that users left here. I hope some of the other writers ale lurking here as well...

As long as he doesn't bring Dragon Age's gay pandering to the new IP, all is good.
