Didn't like Iron Bull nor any of his Chargers, including Krem. Did not like Solas either, Cole was good, but then again he was already well established by Gaider in the Asunder novel.

So yeah, Patrick dude is now Lead Writer. Does this mean that he will be in charge of future DAI DLC, or just the writer for the main games? I'm curious, because if it's the former, then we might get to see his new lead in an upcoming dlc, so sooner rather than later, instead of having to wait years for the next game.

Weekes was one of the few good writers for ME3. As long as he continues where Gaider was going with the story (since it's already mapped out) and the twists and turns it should be fine.

I liked some of his writing for the genophage arc but wasn't he also involved in turning the geth into Pinocchio? That was one of the biggest crimes in ME3's writing for me, though it's possible that Mac had already decided on having that in the story and had PW write the specifics.

Gaider's leaving? Hey Gaider, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

There might be a chance for this declining game series to be saved.

He's the Steven Moffat of video games-----has a huge cult of personality/following due to an assortment of past works (there are a lot of redeemable parts of Origins, Awakenings, and definitely Dragon Age 2), but the more and more his loyal masses hypes up his newest projects, the shittier they are upon release. (For Moffat it was most of series 5, the almost all of series 6 and 7 of Doctor Who, and for Gaider it is 99% of Dragon Age Inquisition).

Why does Orzammar never come up, or Kal-Sharok for that matter? Why do we hear nothing about the lost dwarf empire while we drown in exposition about the ancient elves? Where are the dwarves who aren't from the surface? It's a huge letdown, and I doubt it's something we'll see change. I hope someone else is upset by this.

Not that I disagree (canon f!Aeducan, here), but about the first two questions: We hear about the goings on in Orzammar in some npc chatter at the Winter Palace. We also get to send an envoy there via war table. And there is a mission string dealing with Kal Sharok on the war table, too. Now, neither of those are all that substantial. We certainly don't get to visit either kingdom. But they're not forgotten.

The primeaval thaig's implications are delved into more in Inquisition. Also, I think the Hissing Wastes have something to do with dwarves, too, right? I havn't actually done much there yet, so I'm not 100%.

On Topic: OP needs to change the thread title if possible. Or have a mod do it. future games will most certainly not suck with Weekes at the helm. I'm sad to see Gaider leave the series, but Weekes is great.

Well, he wrote TME. That's a big stain to make up for.

*disgusted noise*

The Masked Empire, AKA the most pointless piece of Dragon Age literature imaginable. Set up a huge civil war in Orlais that we see virtually none of in Inquisition, which is then wrapped up in a single main quest that had the premise of them starting peace talks already.

OP, you're not even giving other/future writers a chance. There is a lot of talent out there. Give them a chance.

So a bit of news: I have decided leave Dragon Age and move onto a new, upcoming BioWare project (which I can't discuss).

Seriously, him and Patrick Weekes were 90% of what I liked about DA:I. I'm such a pessimist lol, but I just don't see future games being any good now. This is akin to Drew K leaving Mass Effect and then you got ME3 which by all means was good, but just not enough like ME1 or ME2.

:) - While I don't hate Gaider, maybe this will breath new life into the series (seriously, the old crowd fucked up...DA2 was bad (by Bioware standards - if it came from another studio it would be ok IMHO) and DA:I isn't all that great either (it has it's moments, like the singing after Heaven was destroyed or Lelianas personal quest - but on the whole it's not great...DA:O was/is!))

greetings LAX

While I think you're giving Inquisition less credit than it deserves, I found the singing scene to be incredibly cheesy and just badly implemented.

Gonna have to disagree here, finding something cheesy is personal taste which is fine BUT this is not a broadway musical it is a video game, original music and lyrics , main characters singing, it was beautifully executed and exquisitely put together, that simply can't be denied

I think this is good news, Patrick Weekes is lead and David Gaider is going for a new IP, sounds win/win to me.

Not saying I wasn't feeling flabbergasted at all right now, but I'm completely with this comment. Congrats for both.

The big issue with that, that I see, is that David Gaider basically wrote all the deep lore, the setting bible that only some of the DA writers ever get to see. Which makes me look askance at the likelihood that future games will feel anything like the first ones.

I think it might get more troublesome if next game was prequel starring Andraste or if it was direct sequel to previous game, but especially if it's set in near or distant future or different area, there's lots of potential in how new characters might deal with old lore or foreign cultures of their world. Practically this also comes off as team writing, and it'll likely work nicely after Gaider and Weekes and others have already experience in working together. So even if they wouldn't cooperate, the writing styles should be able to match. At first I'll be rooting for everything going nicely with DLC of course, but that's something I can't wait for in any case.

I'm not with the current headline and opening post though. To put it mildly. Is this forum always like this? <_<

I prefer Patrick so it's a good news to me. His work on Inquisition was great as it's different from "whining at reality" stuff that got old. I think he brought a new demention to the game by establishing more logical background. His work has been exremely soild over the years. Solas Cole and Jack. These characters are my favorite characters from all of BW games. I am looking forward to his work as a lead.

All future dragon age games will always be good unless EA interferes. DA2 and ME3:s were dismal because EA interfered with the production.

So as long as EA stays away from Bioware and leave them be, future games will be will at least be good

As i said, Im more worried about the lack of Dwarves for the next game. With Turner and Hepler gone, who will continue writing them? We might end up with a random NPC that might say, "What in the maker is a dwarf?" seeing that they are slowly being written out of the series and we might end up with just humans, elves and a few Qunari here and there.

While I share your love of dwarves and desire to see more of them in future titles, I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread? Turner left after DAO and Hepler part way through the production of DAI, so I'd say the bronto has well and truly bolted there.

That doesn't necessarily mean we won't get future dwarf content - for all we know, they'll bring on someone to fill Patrick Weeke's former chair and that person will be a dwarf-lover. Or one of the existing writers will pick up those plot threads. David Gaider leaving makes very little difference to the dwarf situation as far as I can see.

Frankly this is a pointless discussion, even more so than most that appear here, after all DAI is not finished yet, there is going to be DLC for it, so the next DA game is years away and by that time who knows what is going to happen.

DAI is a very human story.

DAI reveals itself to be a very elven story.

But after all that, it is scattered with dwarven hints. While qunari content is sort of more than ever, dwarves still get more lore and more foreshadowing than them.

I highly doubt that we won't have dwarves in the next game. On the contrary - I think we may get dwarven mages in DA4 or DA5.

EDIT: Basically, I think that while dwarves in Dragon Age may be 'reimagined' for future games, I think many may be pleased by how much they return. In fact, they could be as important as elves are in DAI (which is a lot).

I'm also almost expecting a significant dwarven DLC for DAI.

Weekes is arguably the strongest writer Bioware has. Solas, Cole, Miranda, Mordin, Tuchanka and Rannoch arcs...dude is fantastic.

I like Gaider and the work he's done on Dragon Age. It's sad, but he has been on Dragon Age for a long time. I'm glad to hear he's getting to stretch out creatively and work on something new.

I like Weekes' work in both ME and DA, and I'm looking forward to what he can do when he's put at the helm of one of my favorite franchises.

Either way, exciting stuff.

So much for having some faith in Mr. Weekes OP. Sure,I'll miss Gaider's contribution to the series and amazing characters,in fact he wrote many of mystery faves, but Patrick Weekes is also an excellent writer.

I'm personally looking forward to Mr. Gaider's project and the next Dragon age tittle.
