I suppose this means Weekes won't be writing for the new Mass Effect.

Mixed feelings about that.

I seem to recall someone saying that Weekes wasn't looking to write for Mass Effect anymore since DA's style was more his thing. Don't quote me on that though.

This is depressing.

Not only are the #1 and #2 creators of the lore gone now with both Gaider and Hepler moving on, but Gaider wrote the bulk of my favorite characters in game.  His romances also seemed to resonate a little deeper.  I think his writing always felt a little more mature than some of the other writers' efforts.

My enthusiasm for the DA franchise has honestly taken a hit with this news.

I didn't plan on playing future DA games anyways, so it's not a big loss to me. I was on the fence. In a way, DAI seems like a decent enough conclusion for now. All I cared about was Southern Thedas and Chantry and mage issues.

Gaider is not so good when it comes at big-picture world-building.
Each game seems completely separate from the others with only a perception of continuity, Dragon Age doesn't really need that anymore.

In terms of writing (which Gaider was involved in) I would have to disagree.

Yeah...

You know, there's not really a single writer across the industry that I would be actually  happy about BioWare hiring. That I would hear the news about and think "Oh man, this next game's going to kick ass!" And that's including video games, film, books. There's just nobody there.

That's pretty depressing.

It is an incredibly difficult job, I suppose...

Most likely not.

What the hell makes you say that? And don't give me that "Oghren was the most boring character from Origins who shouldn't be brought back" Bullsh!t.

Because Oghren was written primarily by Jay Turner, who doesn't work on DA anymore.

Because the vast majority of dwarven lore was written by Jennifer Hepler, who doesn't work with Bioware anymore.

Did you not notice that there is virtually no dwarven influence in DAI apart from residual storylines involving Varric?  All the writers who cared about the dwarves and dwarven lore are gone.

 Wait when did Jay Turner leave? Well if that's the case, they should have gotten replacements to write the Dwarves if Helper, Turner ect, was unable to continue. i mean was Bioware really that short on writers for Dragon Age?

Some Dwarven lore is actually there, it's just not prominent. And Hepler apparently did do some work on Inquisition.

As i said, Bioware should have gotten replacements to write the Dwarves if Helper, Turner ect, was unable to continue. i mean was Bioware really that short on writers for Dragon Age? I want to explore more of the Dwarven culture, the social pressures to marry within caste or the impact of being casteless or other facets of an interesting character and most of all, BRING OGHREN BACK!!!

Ah, yes. Doom and Gloom. There is only 1 person on the face of the planet that can be a good lead writer for DA. Now that he's gone, let's automatically assume all is lost.

A fresh perspective may just be what the franchise needs. DAI's story, while descent, is terribly thin.

Uh huh.

Like how Dragon Age 2 ended the Dragon Age franchise?

That would be somewhat uncharacteristic considering they've said they didn't really plan the ME franchise at all. C-could bioware be... learning? Mi dios. Mi amigos, se reúnen alrededor, hemos visto algo grande hoy. Disfrútala.

Given that they foreshadowed the breach back in witch hunt, dropped hints about the troubles in Orlais the last two games and trouble in  Navarra for the whole series so far I suspect the story of Thadas during the Dagon age has at least in partly preplanned.

I'm sad for Mary Kirby as it seems the new guy Weekes has passed her over for the promotion. Bioware Leading The Way. Unless she's on another project as well.

I can only hope that she simply didn't want the job. Then it makes sense.

Otherwise, yeah.

I hope Mary Kirby will bring oghren back seeing how she wrote his personal quest in origins with the help of Sheryl Chee.

yeah, I know Sheryl Chee also had a hand in writing Oghren, so im hoping she will bring him back. I mean this is getting ridiculous that Bioware is excluding Dwarf race and culture.

The last time a Lead Writer left my favorite Bioware IP, the whole thing went to ****.

Please, Mr. Weekes, don't break my heart. I'm just now learning to open my heart again :(

And they've never done anything as cool as him since.

The mage/templar stuff came close though.. I generally like all of these complex political themes/motivations. Even more than the fantasy stuff.

Much as they like to brag about their progressiveness re:women, they sure have the lead positions safely occupied by males with seniority apparently not being a factor.

Hey Bioware, when you designed Dragon Age Inquisition as a place with lots of women in positions of authority, is the fact that it's all just a fantasy the message you tried to convey?

My brother told me this a bit ago, and literally the first thing out of my mouth was 'Weekes had better be in charge.' All is well!

Speaking as an ardent, squawking feminist: what are you on about?

Maybe this isn't about gender but about who is the better writer or more qualified or who is more up to the challenge.

Not everything has to be about gender you know.
