I'm sad that Gaider is moving on, as I've loved his writing on the series. On the other hand, this actually makes me interested in the new IP - and DA is in good hands with Patrick Weekes.

Much as they like to brag about their progressiveness re:women, they sure have the lead positions safely occupied by males with seniority apparently not being a factor.

Hey Bioware, when you designed Dragon Age Inquisition as a place with lots of women in positions of authority, is the fact that it's all just a fantasy the message you tried to convey?

Dude, we have no idea why they gave this job to Patrick Weekes instead of Mary Kirby or Sheryl Chee - or Lukas Kristjanson, for that matter. While institutional sexism in the video games industry is a serious problem, I don't think we can declare any particular hiring decision the result of it without any contextual information.

Because Oghren was written primarily by Jay Turner, who doesn't work on DA anymore.

Because the vast majority of dwarven lore was written by Jennifer Hepler, who doesn't work with Bioware anymore.

Did you not notice that there is virtually no dwarven influence in DAI apart from residual storylines involving Varric?  All the writers who cared about the dwarves and dwarven lore are gone.

Is that true? to quote Varric "Well ****" Sorry just had to say that. Whos writing the dwarves now?

Because Gaider can't think of anyone better then Patrick Weekes, I agree that he thought so little of Mary Kirby or Sheryl Chee or Lukas Kristjanson since they contribute more to the Dragon age games.

Patrick Weekes is great though. Even if Gaider leaves, I think we have seen plenty of evidence Patrick can handle it. He's been handling it multiple times. It sucks to see Gaider work on another project but I'm pretty sure him and the rest of the DA writing team has the lore set for the rest of the games. I wouldn't freak out!

Are we really gonna try to turn a small comment by Gaider into something big... again?

I hope so cause there is virtually no dwarven influence in DAI apart from residual storylines involving Varric and im worried that no writer will want to work on the Dwarves.

Hey, why not?

I wouldn't accuse anyone just yet, but I think raising the question is good. Instead of ignoring the issue.. Because I'm curious why two longterm writers were passed over. That they're women isn't the point. Personally, they've brought so much more to my enjoyment to DA than Weekes. I hate most of his stuff so far.. but liked Masked Empire.

That is worrisome as I was not aware that the other writes who wrote Dwarven related lore/characters were gone from the team. I think dwarves could use some more love and I mean dwarves from Orzammar (real dwarves lol) not the surface-humanized like Varric. I love Varric but I think I want a badass dwarf with an even more badass beard that is a companion. Oghren was just Oghren and not cool enough I think. Quite pitiful in fact.

let me ask you this, Put youself in their shoes, how would you feel if you were shafted after all the stuff you had given out to the game?

Who says they were shafted?

What if they turned down the offer? Not every writer wants to be the lead writer

What if they also put Patrick's name forward as Lead writer?

We have zero information on how things are done, making a blatant assumption that people got shafted is trying to make an issue out of nowhere

Or BioWare simply chose the person they felt was best for a management role like many other businesses.

So does the lead writer work on the DLC for Dragon Age titles as well or is that handled by a completely different team? Perhaps David Gaider's departure indicates that there will be no future Dragon Age games and EA is shifting their focus and resources to a new and hopefully more successful IP with Weekes only taking on the role to churn out the obligatory DLC packs before the IP is turned to dust?

But on a more serious note I am not sure how David Gaider's departure will really effect the Dragon age series for the worse, I mean the direction the Dragon Age series has been going in so far has not exactly been stunning and I am pretty sure the better parts of the series weren't even written by Gaider, unless you are a big fan of characters that lay it on thick with the cutesy humour and constant attempts at witticism that fall flat more often than not I am not sure what the big deal is?

So do we know what role DG is playing in this new project? Obviously a writer but are we talking Lead Writer or just a writer?

*Sigh* I knew some thread like this would pop up... DUDE, Patrick Weeks is a good writer, let him try at least before you say the next DA game will suck, what if its better?

Well, he wrote TME. That's a big stain to make up for.

I know ever since hepler and turner left, i have not seen any good writing for the dwarves and culture.

I don't know if it'll make a difference either.

I'm not even sure where he calls the shots to begin with. Sometimes it seems the game is restricted by industry realities or the design team. I've wondered what DA would look like completely in the hands of the writers. I get the feeling I'd like it more. That it's people like Laidlaw who bring it down.

Seeing as we know nothing about the circumstances of the promotion, considering it an 'issue' at all is just inane.

The Masked Empire, AKA the most pointless piece of Dragon Age literature imaginable. Set up a huge civil war in Orlais that we see virtually none of in Inquisition, which is then wrapped up in a single main quest that had the premise of them starting peace talks already.

Fine fine, lets not make blatant assumption based on zero info as you said but it does raise a few eyebrows.

The Masked Empire, a kickass Dragon Age novel Patrick Weekes wrote.

Available on Amazon, incidentally.

I could say the same about the mage/templar war. Lots of good setups that didn't go much of anywhere.. They traded these intelligent political themes for a childish story about big bad evil Corypheus. It's a fault of DAI itself. Not a fault of Masked Empire (or Asunder.. or DA2).

Hehe.. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?
