The Masked Empire, AKA the most pointless piece of Dragon Age literature imaginable. Set up a huge civil war in Orlais that we see virtually none of in Inquisition, which is then wrapped up in a single main quest that had the premise of them starting peace talks already.

To be fair it gives you some excellent insight into Briala, Celene and Gaspard. It was because of that book that I chose not to let Celene die.

I get the feeling I'd like it more. That it's people like Laidlaw who bring it down.

I get the feeling that someone came along and demanded something along the lines of "We're not having another ME 3. Make sure the plot and ending give the player everything they want." Hence the vapid story of Inquisition.

I've read some of what Gaider has to say about writing, and he seems at least moderately competent about this sort of thing. It's hard to imagine someone experienced making the sort of mistakes in Inquisition by themselves.

But then, that didn't stop the ME 3 writing team from writing that ending, so maybe I'm just giving them too much credit...

I figured... and hoped.. you were showing disgust for Laidlaw. Not me mentioning Laidlaw.

"Press a button and something awesome happens." His mentality is even more clear in this game than DA2.

I could say the same about the mage/templar war. Lots of good setups that didn't go much of anywhere.. They traded these intelligent political themes for a childish story about big bad evil Corypheus. It's a fault of DAI itself. Not a fault of Masked Empire (or Asunder.. or DA2).

Hehe.. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?

Just gotta say that I don't think Corypheus' story is childish. He has a lot of depth when you get down to it.

I don't have a problem with Laidlaw, or think he's the reason for your dislike of the game

Name and shaming devs does not make for productive feedback.

What's your issue with Laidlaw? Wasn't he lead designer for Origins too?

Then what are your thoughts of the Darkspawns? Seeing that they have gone from hideous monsters to putty patrol rejects from some dumb power ranger show and are reduced in this game to just Hurlocks only.

No, he's not. He's more of a symbol. It's a whole gamut of decisions, streaming from this sort of mentality. My point is that writers tend to have better things in mind when it comes to world building. I wondered what a game would look like solely in their hands.

No that was Brent Knowles....

He shared it with Brent Knowles, who was far more diehard about RPG mechanics. A purist if you will.

And boy do i miss him, he felt that party control and tactical combats should be huge factors in a role playing game.

I like what they tried to do with them, because it in Origins they pretty much did look like Orcs and Goblins. But it wasn't executed well in DA2

I didn't realize games were capable of giving bjs.

Now that's worth 60 dollars

The Masked Empire, a kickass Dragon Age novel Patrick Weekes wrote.

Available on Amazon, incidentally.

Thanks for the handy link but I have no intention of reading it let alone buying it so I am afraid your sales pitch might be wasted on me.

Obviously I have not read the book so I am oblivious to any other faults it may have but if your major problem with the book is that it set up something that did not quite turn out as exciting in the game isn't that more a problem with the game rather than the book?

And yet they brought those putty patrol rejects back into DAI.

You expected them to go back to the Origins look?

If you look at the closeups of the Darkspawn in DAI, they look amazing. Much better than their DAO counterparts.

If the controls actually work. And the combat actually is tactical. And the systems are any fun.

Those things are rarely true.

Why not?!! At least the Origins look was way more scary then these laughable rejects.

I never thought the darkspawn looked scary. The hurlock alphas in this game look cooler to me though.

Other than the fact that they would have to rebuild the whole thing and they're suppose to look corrupted

And like Hanako said, they actually looked better in DAI
