I am utterly confident in Patrick Weekes taking over as lead writer and extremely interested in Gaider's new role/Biowares new project

Tbh I'm kind of happy about this if Mr Weekes will be the lead. He wrote all of my favourite characters :o

Have been a fan of Davud Gaideer since KOTOR so I'm looking forward to seeing with D. G. is working on.

Not too worried about the direction DA goes towards, since the series is set up so each game is complete and I enjoyed Here Lies the Abyss a lot and I am fond of the characters he has brought to life in both ME and DA, so I'll take a wait and see approach.

Why are some saying this is the same as Drew K leaving Mass Effect back in the day?

It's really not. Not when you consider who's replacing David (and who replaced Drew back then, who shall remain nameless at this time). Sure, it sucks that David is no longer working on the series, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's as bad as the case with Mass Effect. As far as I know, Patrick Weekes has yet to disappoint anyone, and is in many ways regarded highly by a lot of long-time players. I think he's earned a little trust by now.

I played ME3 not knowing anything about who wrote what and I had no clue who Drew Karpyshyn was, but I still noticed how a lot of major characters were written differently.

Compared to what game?

Drew left ME2 early in production to work on TOR and it was Mac Walters and Casey Hudson who came up with a story about recruiting "commandos," a suicide mission, and Cerberus and Timmy.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I'm just sad about David leaving DA. Happy that Patrick is the one taking his place, but in an ideal, selfish world, I'd want both to be around. Though on the flip side, this has exponentially increased my interest in whatever the unannounced project is.

Well, I'm saying it's the same because I didn't think ME was hurt too much by Drew K leaving. Mac fell into the hole that Drew dug for him.

Yeah, I'm really curious about the unannounced project. It sounds like they are in active preproduction stages right now.

So a bit of news: I have decided leave Dragon Age and move onto a new, upcoming BioWare project (which I can't discuss).

Seriously, him and Patrick Weekes were 90% of what I liked about DA:I. I'm such a pessimist lol, but I just don't see future games being any good now. This is akin to Drew K leaving Mass Effect and then you got ME3 which by all means was good, but just not enough like ME1 or ME2.

This does't surprise me.  It's sad all things considered.  With so many complaints about the DA2 and DA:I it is no wonder he was reassigned.

I thought it was a personal decision...?

I'm hoping for a change of direction for Dragon Age. Most of the things I liked about DAI was very similar to things we've seen before.

It may also be good for Gaider to work on a new IP. Get his creative juices flowing again.

Wouldn't Laidlaw and Darrah also be falling on their swords if they were shaking up the team? They're responsible for far more of how those games turned out than the guy that writes the story.

It could still be his choice to leave. He could have left beacase he urged to leave or he did while the getting was good before they could beat to it.

If my facts are right, didn't Weekes do a lot of the Rannoch arc in ME 3? Which a lot of people weren't overwhelmingly happy with?

From what I've seen, the Rannoch arc is the fan favorite arc, or at least second right behind the Tuchanka arc.

Weekes did the Rannoch arc.

John Dombrow (who joined BioWare for ME3 and then moved on after it) did the Tuchanka arc.

Either way, Weekes wrote both arcs. :P

EDIT: Scratch that. He wrote Mordin

I was actually under the impression that most people liked the Rannoch arc. I know I did.

Patrick also wrote Lair of the Shadow Broker. We all remember the reception that received.

He did the main path, but Sylvia actually did the side quests and a fair bit of Legion.

John Dombrow (who joined BioWare for ME3 and then moved on after it) did the Tuchanka arc.

John Dombrow wrote the Overlord DLC for ME2. I believe that was his first project at BioWare.

If David is going to be lead writer, the first thing he should do is reach out and see if he can lure John back. He had the stuff, truly.

John "wrote" Mordin in ME3 (along with the rest of the Tuchanka arc); all Patrick has said is that he helped make sure the tone was right for him.

I'm almost certain I remember watching a panel with Sylvia Whatsherface talking about writing Lair of the Shadow Broker...

Thank you David but let a chance to the new writers team before blaming them.
