I've been thinking about picking up a copy of DA:I for my PS4.  As much as I prefer playing on my PC, truthfully some of the crashes and such are driving me nuts.  I don't usually play on console since I prefer a keyboard and mouse set-up, but I've heard that the game plays more comfortably with a controller.

Anyway, my big concern is stability and consistent frame rates.  I'm not trying to make a thread complaining about some of the lingering PC issues.  I'm more wondering how the game fares on the console.  I don't own an Xbox, so that doesn't really apply.

I appreciate the answers you guys can give.  All that I ask is that we try to keep it civil towards each other, and that we keep the EA/BioWare bashing to a minimum.   Most of us are pretty well aware that folks are very unhappy about several of the issues in the game, and are expressing their feelings accordingly.  However, I'd rather keep the serious flaming towards the company out of this thread.  I just want to know how the game fares in comparison with the PC version.   :)

Edit: My husband (who's a console player for his more serious games) has thought about giving the game a try.  That's the other big reason why I've thought about grabbing this for the PS4.  He has trouble playing with a mouse and keyboard for prolonged periods at a time due to carpal tunnel, but a controller is less rough on his wrists.  He also prefers hanging out on the couch for his longer gaming sessions.  Since this would be the first DA game and his second BioWare game ever (we hit level 50 together in ToR awhile ago,) I'd like to share this with him.   ;)

I play on the PS4, and in my experience, it really depends on one playthrough to the next.

Example: one playthrough went perfectly, no problems whatsoever -- apart from the banter, which at the point, I wasn't really sure if it was the bug or I'd just exhausted all of the banter dialogue.

Another playthrough I didn't get any banter at all -- and during battles sometimes, it would go slow motion and resembled something out of a Matrix movie.. this also occurred when I fought dragons.

I think the game may have crashed once in the entire time I spent playing the game, which is pretty good.

So overall I think you're pretty right if you buy it for PS4.

I've been playing pretty extensively for about two months and only noticed occasional half-second hiccups in Haven and Skyhold, had one sidequest I could't turn in, and Corphy lost interest during his final fight so I had to reload.

Other than that, it works perfect for me. My standards may have been lowered though, due to prolonged exposure to numerous Bethesda titles.

Overall, you'll probably find more complaints about the game mechanics than technical problems with the PS 4. However, it's a good idea to save frequently.

One of the side issues is the limited number of saves allowed on the PS4–get a decent sized USB stick so you can keep some backup copies of saved games, so you can delete PS4 saves when need just to make space. This is also useful when you are playing more than one character. I found that some of the War Table events can take a while in real time to unfold–so I just started another character and switch between them. PS4 files are sequential-you can't input name data. You can't transfer save game files to USB stick while in-game-so you have to exit–copy save data–restart the game.

There are some minor glitches I've noticed that are more easily circumvented by using a save file. Sometimes you can't trigger a conversation with either Right 3 or X. A few occasions of getting a black screen (just be patient or reload) and a few lockups (have to reload).

I've had at most maybe half a dozen crashes on my PS4 and that's with me playing pretty much nothing else since the end of November, and I can't remember the last time I had one happen that wasn't actually just my cat unplugging the PS4. I've never really noticed any major frame rate issues either.

I haven't had any real issues with the PS4 version.

For me 100% stable but, with a caveat, I did have to fine tune my settings as follows.

Windows in presentation or always on so it never sleeps or shuts down the computer. (Not sure it mattered but, that's what I had before anyway.)

In Game: Post Processing Effects LOW - major factor in stopping the crashes. All other settings Ultra or high (if no ultra), Full Screen not windowed.

GPU Controls (Nvidia) Vsync addaptive - also major factor. Single display performance (as opposed to dual monitor mode)

But I am still reading reports of crashes on some GPUs even doing that so, overall I'd say 70-80% stable.

I play on the PS4 and I am currently on my sixth full playthrough and so far had no crashes or frame rate problems. Just having a bit of an issue with party banter not happening much (huge periods of wandering around in silence no matter who's in the party), and a couple of side quests have not triggered properly in this or that playthrough. So I would say get it, I have been playing it pretty much non-stop since it's release and despite a few niggles over dumbing down etc I still love the game, it's fun messing around changing things in Dragon Age Keep and seeing how it affects the playthrough.

It's been pretty smooth sailing for me and my PS4 DAI experience.

I personally have never had a crash, and rare, minor graphical hiccups have been the worst of my problems.

Perhaps I've just been lucky though.  I've never had a problem with widespread issues like the banter bug, Dorian's personal quest bug, etc.

In five playthroughs, each almost 70 hours long, I've had it freeze on me exactly once. There's been some other general bugginess, but nothing a reload save couldn't fix. So I'd say it's pretty stable.

Pretty flawless for me, though Morrigan thought the warden who hated her and tried to murder her had a kid with her and was deeply in love.

Pain int eh butt really, leliana remembered him defeating her at the temple of sacred ashes and it was pretty cool.

Ran pretty well, though I hated the fetch quests.

The only problem I encountered on the PS4 was during a particular level that takes place in the fade. I reloaded a save while I was there and my frame-rate dropped to the 10s. At first I thought it was just that particular level, but upon finishing the level and going back to the hub world, the frame-rate remained the same. I fixed it by making a save and reloading, so it wasn't too big of an issue.

I actually own a PC copy and a PS4 copy. I had quite a few stability issues with the PC version if I was online in origin and connected to the servers. Stability continues to improve though. I have an AMD setup with Mantle so I was luckily never part of the multiple directx crashes. And I never tried multiplayer on PC (because I had issues when logged into the system and now just use PS4 for it).

PS4 version, I have had no issues so far in single player. Multiplayer on the other hand... It likes to spawn my PC under the maps... Weird stuff. I believe that this is a known issue that they are working on, but to be honest I haven't touched the PS4 copy or multiplayer in a few weeks.

I probably prefer the PC version, but if you want less hassle and trouble shooting (and don't stockpile hundreds of saves), the PS4 version might be a safer bet.

Never once in 3 playthroughs did the game ever crash for me.

I encountered a single bug in my first, but was easily fixed by loading my last auto save

To chip in. Ps4, 2 full playthrough. Apart the banter issue had only one, though very serious, slow down during fighting the last high dragon. I seriously thought my ps4 will crash. have to mention, played almost all day that day.

Apart that one time, had no complaints whatsoever

I have 4 completed playthoughs on PS4. The game crashes once or twice per playthrough so it's not a problem. There were quite severe freezing in some of the conversations before patch 2 but that happened a long time ago. I have had some other minor problems with it but nothing that annoys me. I have been very happy playing the game on PS4.

One random issue  - my mom, brother and I all play on PS4s.  They have issues with the game crashing when they try to sit in judgement of a prisoner.  I do not have this issue.  Their PS4s are both older than mine by a year.  I'm not sure if patch 5 fixed this issue for them or not.  Not sure if that has anything to do with that or their actual machines being PS4s that were purchased at release.  There are minor frame rate hiccups every time I walk into haven's main gate.  Nothing that is game breaking.  The other  minor issues I see seem to be issues players across platforms seem to have has well, but again those are also not game breaking.

Only bug I had I can remember that didn't resolve with a reload was Dorian's personal mission not starting in my first run, but after the first patch it have trigged in the two run after. only problem the banter issue, but is common on most platforms.

The game crashed on me maybe two times ever, so I can say it was a good game experience.
